  • Works as advertised.on an 01 Xterra
Bought the kit on May 5th, installed it on my 2001 Xterra that I had jut picked up and appeared to have its original belt. Kit was of good quality and fit exactly as expected. When installing, make sure that all bolts are properly torqued and that the belt tension is correct. As I haven't seemed to have blown up mine yet, I guess I did it correctly. Make sure to pick up some RTV to seal the water pump, and get a harmonic balancer puller to properly remove the crank pulley. Also, the included instructions are for a VG30 engine, but this is the correct kit for the VG33E. ... show more

We’ve been using it for our 1998 Qx4, and it’s been a champ!

  • Fit my 2002 Xterra
It's not the hardest job but you want to make sure you do it right. All components in the kit fit like OEM. Markings on the belt were accurate. Grab an oil seal for the crank while you're in there and it's a good time to replace your radiator hoses and the heater bypass hose as well. Don't forget to replace the thermostat while you're in there and new serpentine belts would be a good idea also. Mine was only at 70k but well overdue at 18 years. Now I'm good until it hits 170,000 miles! ... show more

  • I ordered this kit to perform the recommended timing belt service on my 2002 Nissan Frontier
I ordered this kit to perform the recommended timing belt service on my 2002 Nissan Frontier. I was expected some lower quality parts since the kit was so cheap, but the parts are definitely top quality. I would recommend this kit to anyone with more than 100k miles that is frequently getting a check engine light. In my case the ECU was throwing a knock sensor and catalyst out of threshold error. These errors are caused by slack in the timing belt which cause the valves and ignition to get slightly out of time. After 10k miles of driving with the new belt in all different conditions, I haven't had a single check engine light and my fuel economy jumped up about 4 mpg. Anyone that tries to tackle this job is going to run into a major problem with getting the crankshaft pulley off. After trying just about every tool I owned for removing a pulley (including breaking a strap wrench), I finally ended up using a ratcheting tie down strap to loosen and tighten the pulley. I started by removing the part of the strap with the ratcheting mechanism, then tightly wrapped the strap (without the ratchet) about 5 or 6 times around crankshaft pulley. From there I simply hooked the end of the strap to the frame and used a breaker bar to loosen the pulley. With this configuration, the strap pulls itself tighter and tighter around the pulley and holds tight enough to break the bolt free. To re-install the pulley, simply wrap the strap in the opposite direction and hook it to the opposite side of the frame. ... show more

  • Almost 5 stars. Damaged gasket; read the review.
I would have given these parts 5 stars, but the way the water pump gasket was packaged... it was just in clear plastic thrown in a box big enough to hold all of the parts, and that box placed in a bigger box. Needless to say, the gasket got creased and damaged due to the water pump being able to flop around in the box. any number of things could have been done to protect it. it could have been placed between cardboard sheets, taped to the outside of the inner box, placed in a padded envelope. Replacing the water pump on a first gen Xterra is not an "easy to get to" job. I am not willing to risk a failed gasket so I will be buying one from a parts store. All of the other parts arrived in great condition and appear to be high quality. Maybe this might seem a bit picky, but it is what it is. I would buy it again knowing the gasket would be damaged. ... show more

Somewhat of a pain, but not too bad. The gates belt has timing marks that lined up perfectly for my 2002 Nissan Frontier Crew cab. Had an issue with the water pump gasket, had to replace the first one, pretty sure it was my fault though, first time. Been on for a couple months now, no problems! Make sure you use the spring from the old tensioner, or buy new! Does not include tensioner spring! ... show more
