Bought late January 2021. Works great with my 2007 Chevy Aveo5 2.7. I bought this because my gas door lock is broken so the door can just be pushed open for easy access. It's been about a month, no lights or codes. However in cold months it can get frozen, so I'd recommend some lock ease be worked in to prevent freezing. It's really awkward when you're near empty on your way to work and can't get the key in because it's frozen shut lol. EDIT: June 4, 2021. Normal use, no codes... But... It no longer seals. It acts like it's unlocked, to put it on, but then as soon as you lock it, it unseals.. then you can't even seal it after unlocking it again... Just seizes up.. found when I went to fill up with gas after being out of work for a few months, and the cap wasn't sealed at all... fortunately no codes still. Went back to my stock fuel cap..

I HAVE DRIVEN 500 MILES WITH NO ISSUES ! NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT OR TIGHTEN GAS CAP WARNING. I SLEEP BETTER WITH THIS GAS CAP LOCK KNOWING NOTHING IS GOING INTO MY GAS TANK EXCEPT GASOLINE. A COUPLE OF TIMES I NOTICED I HAD LESS GAS IN THE TANK THEN I THOUGHT THERE WAS OR SHOULD BE AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK AND THOUGHT MAYBE I DROVE 100 OR SO MILES AND SIMPLY FORGOT, HOWEVER THIS HAPPENED TO MANY TIMES AND I NORMALLY DO NOT HAVE MEMORY ISSUES LIKE THIS AND DEFINITELY NOT 5 TO 6 TIMES IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS GAS CAP FITS PERFECT AND WORKS AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL GAS CAP DID. THE PRICE WAS HALF OF WHAT AUTOZONE QUOTED ME FOR THERE DURALAST BRAND AT $20.00 I PAID UNDER $10.00 FOR THIS Gates 31844 Locking Fuel Cap AND I LOVE IT !!! THANK YOU AMAZON !!!!

Fits great and exactly as advertised. I'm not sure we’ll ever need the locking feature. Update: We were hoping that using the key to the lock the cap was an optional feature, but it’s not. You must have a key to fill up with gas every time. It’s not the most convenient thing for us, but loved the price point of this cap and just went with it. We no longer have the car we bought it for, but if we had to get another cap in the future we may buy this one again. It worked great, just wasn’t what we had thought.

Updates 7-3-25 POS already broke, only used it hand full of times and now it wont lock just spins and spins yes i made sure it was unlocked with the key first, cheap gates has gone down hill looks and works good on my 2004 sierra 5.3L 4x4

I tried carquest gas cap and now this gates gas cap. Neither of them work and will not lock onto my cars gas tank. As far as fitment is concerned, I triple checked and all was well when I ordered. My car is a 2006 chevrolet impala ltz. Sending it back. I was on the phone with gates customer support. They indicated to me that they had bought the gas cap line from another company. And he indicated that once in a while they saw an error in the part numbers. He also told me to call back in February of 2025 because their GM guy was out until that time

The product is good, easy to install and the locking mechanism is good. However it doesn't fit Chevy Malibu 2009 3.6L V6 (Gas). On installation the cap rotates and clicks but doesn't stay locked and comes out without rotation.

I got in a hurry one day leaving the gas station and I ended up leaving my good locking gas cap on the back of the bumper as I drove away. Well, I never saw that good gas cap again and decided to drive around several days without a gas cap. I got a horrible 9-10 mpg in my chevy tahoe without the gas cap. I needed a cheap replacement that wasn't too fancy in case I leave the cap on my bumper again and drive away. This cap is just ok. It does fit a 2004 chevy Tahoe 4.8L LS, but the keys and lock could work together a little more smoothly. You have to put the keys in perfectly and wiggle the cap just right without accidentally moving it to get this cap to work. I wouldn't buy this cap again, instead I'd spend more and get a better one that opens and closes easily.

Being a fan of older American trucks, I’ve bought more than my share of locking gas caps over the years. This one is far and away the best of any I’ve owned. The key slides in easily and smoothly unlocks the unit. Then, you can take the key out and the cap will lock with a couple of clicks when you replace it. Flawless even on single digit snowy days in upstate New York! As a bonus, this one cost me less than any other.
