  • I love it, good first attempt into the life tracker feild
Edit: this is my updated review, mostly on durability, my original starts at the bottom. I dad vivofit since June 2014, now being July 2015 I have to really give a final review before moving on to the second gen version. My update the the Vivofit 2 isn't exactly by choice it's by after a year I finally fell victim to the band popping off, but I can't blame Garmin, I went cheap and ordered an off brand black band when I snapped my original purple one from constant use, I suggest shelling out the money for real replacement bands it's not worth losing the tracker. Vivofit is durable, it survived 6 Spartan races and would have kept going had it not popped off in the festival area after the race this past weekend. The screen got a little scratched but again with what I put mine through I couldn't expect otherwise. The pictures attached are from not long before it was lost. Note stuff does get stuck inside where the tracker snaps into the band... But if you're not doing mud races or really spend time to clean it that's not a problem (I didn't want to spend the time and it never bothered me, had some Georgia clay with me for quite some time) and the 40,000 steps one was after one of the last Spartan races it survived. I suggest it for sure and already have my Vivofit 2 on the way since I've horribly missed my original in the 2 days without it! -----------(original review below) ----------- I had a fitbit one (it was found so I only paid to get the charger and wireless dongle) but I was frustrated I always had to charge it and would often forget to put it back on, and I couldn't wear it in the shower so it was missing steps I was taking. I was looking into other fitness trackers since I liked the idea of them and wanted to be able to use it especially swimming since living on a lake means a lot of water time in the summer months. I was looking into the polar loop but hated how it wouldn't sync with my phone, this one still doesn't, (I have an LG Optimus L9 so not very popular and I live with the fact that I have to go to the computer to sync daily but can still view the stats on my app. Syncing to the computer can be a pain sometimes since it'll say it failed to sync a few times then will one time all of a sudden without problem. I LOVE how the battery life is up to a year+ because then I really don't have to take it off ever, I didn't even realize other people felt the same way enough for Garmin to be excited for this feature. As with any "waterproof" electronics I get skeptical that maybe it will still break, but yesterday was the first ocean day, hours in the water its completely fine. I got the HRM package set, works good, I can often forget I have it on (I am a lady though so its no real different to the bra strap feeling when I wear it all the time, Never slides down at the gym. I origionally wore it constantly to bed and everything but your skin sweats under it and stays and it got itchy so I take it off at night now. Havent used it in the water sine I swim for fun not training, but I can imagine that although the piece is waterproof the elastic based band wouldn't fair too well with constant water use, but any other way it wouldn't be comfortable on your skin all the time. Many people complain about how it hooks but I don't see the problem. Its helpful at the gym not to have to hold the treadmill's HRM which throws off my running momentum taking away my arms, and its good to keep me aware of my anxiety and familiarize myself with what's normal for my heart, while its consumer grade so not recommended as reliable if you have a preexisting problem, I know that if something is going wrong heart-wise i'll have early notice, and while i'm still young heart disease is in the family, so good to keep watch early. My only complaint is, I go the purple band so it wouldn't look to masculine on my wrist. but in less than a month ownership a dark collection of wear has started around ridges of the band. Makes me wish I got black but i'm still happy I got the purple since its a lovely color! Definitely recommend it! Pros: waterproof, very long battery life compared to competition, not too clunky or masculine looking, came already paired to the HRM I got with it (saved many confusing steps usually associated with pairing). Cons: Quirks when syncing (please let me know if none of you have had small troubles because if its the case that its my computer its not a quirk, either way its easy to work through just have to sync it a few more times for it to actually connect. There's no backlight so setting it to sleep mode you have to find a light to see the screen, but I personally prefer the battery life to the light, I just know its a common complaint from people. ... show more

  • Great watch for active people!
I looked into getting a heart rate monitor watch because I started an Insanity workout class at my gym. My instructor had a heart rate monitor watch that she wore and always knew how many calories she burned during class and also knew where her heart rate was the whole time. So I did my research and decided on this watch. This watch caught my eye from the design. I didn't want something bulky on my wrist. The screen is the perfect size. I love everything that it tracks: time, date, heart rate (if you buy that option), steps you've walked, steps you still have left during the day to walk to meet your goal, how many miles you've been, and how many calories you've burned throughout the entire day. I also enjoy the little red bar that pops up at the top when you've been inactive for too long because me being a competitive person, it makes me get up and walk around to make the red line go away. Also, it will track your sleep at night and make a graph of when you move during the night so you can track how much deep sleep you get. The heart rate monitor works great and is very comfortable. Its just a band that goes around (for women) right under your boobs. I push mine up under my sports bra so it stays in place good while I jump around. The only con I have to this watch is that it doesn't have a back light. Which I guess that is why the battery works as long as it does. It doesn't affect me too much anyways. The only time I really need it in the dark is to swap it to sleep mode when I go to sleep at night. Overall this watch is great and does everything that I needed it to. ... show more

  • good product
So the Vivofit is as expected. It fits well, and comfortable to wear, can wear while showering or apparently swimming (haven't tried that yet) to no problem. Counts steps pretty accurate. Goals work well, online site has good charts and things for you to use. Heart Rate monitor works well, and without a hitch syncing with the vivofit.... Pros: Comfortable (with two straps in case of large or small wrist), Syncs pretty easily, easy to use, syncs well with heart monitor. Auto-goals are really nice, and works you more. The red bar of shame, has really made me get up to make it go away, so good incentive. and The website is fairly good. Cons: Occasionally steps aren't counted mainly if walking like 10 feet, or back and forth in a 10 foot room, not a huge issue, but doesnt count them..... and then apparently washing my hair requires walking, so while in shower it counts steps when washing hair. So far i find it balances out, because the amount counted shampooing, is close to the amount i have walked in a small room, so maybe 10-20 steps. The website, can be a little clunky to use, and doesn't have all the features of say Fit Bit.... Overall: works very well, simple to use, some miscounting, which isn't too surprising, but overall accurate. Heart rate monitor is a good bonus, I recommend it! ... show more
