  • Nice little addition to kayak fishing
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
I mainly fish in a small river that's relatively shallow but has lots of downed trees. I use a Lifetime Tamarack Pro kayak that I didn't really want to outfit with a full blown fish finder so this castable unit seemed like a great alternative. I hook it to the side of my kayak while I float the river and it does a great job of giving me water depth, underwater vegetation/obstructions and locating fish. Because it's displayed on my phone, it's harder to decipher the size of the fish it is marking.. I also had to google videos to understand some of the setting as the owners manual tells you how to make adjustments but not why to make them. Battery life for my unit has been as advertised, I find no problems with connecting to the unit via Bluetooth and have not lost connection (although I'm within city limits). For my needs this fits the bill perfectly and it's helped me learn the river more quickly. ... show more

  • Just push the button already.
Style: GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
This is one of those, “how did I get along without it” items. If you know the theory behind fish this will absolutely change your game. The topographical mapping isn’t perfect but it’s enough to get you on the edges. It took about 45 minutes to charge from 3/5 bars (as read by the app), and went all day without making a dent in the battery. I’ve heard it really drains the phone battery, while I didn’t pay super close attention I didn’t notice an issue with that. This thing is tiny, palm of your hand tiny, plus it weighs very little so even a smaller rod can cast it easily. I used it to map about 400’ of shore line today, probably 120 feet off the bank and it took me about 10-15 minutes to do, taking my time. The temp sensor is very quick to read, and the image is clean, bearing in mind this isn’t your garmin 93sv, but instead a sub 200 dollar unit that is the size of a kiwi. It’s not going to replace the unit on your bass boat but this absolutely has potential to change the game for shore fisherman. Why are you still reading? Buy it already!! ... show more

  • Solid for scouting
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
This is a great little device to scout for fish when ice fishing. I have used it to catch fish as well but it can drain my cell phone battery pretty quick. I usually use it to find the fish and then set up my shanty and use an underwater camera to catch the fish. I don't use it in shallow waters but I have heard it can struggle if it's less than 5 feet deep. The app is well done and easy to use for tweaking and dialing in the settings to find where the fish are. It's also really nice as there is a community on it that shares topographical maps that have been "drawn" by the devices they are using from Garmin. Overall if you're looking for a lower cost sonar to use ice fishing - I'd highly recommend this device. ... show more

  • Very useful for beginner ice fisher
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
Used this for ice fishing and it worked great for a beginner compared to some of the $500+ flasher. The portability allowed me to jump from hole to hole quite quickly. I was able to catch 3 perch, the only fish of the trip. I think I sold this for some of the other guys that didn't have flashers. Definitely useful and looking forward to using it boat fishing in the summer. ... show more

  • Easy to use & understand.
Style: GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
Easy to get started and read the display. It's a little heavier than I expected but that shouldn't be an issue going forward.

  • Battery problem, doesn't hold a charge
Style: GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
Purchased a GPS model recently and got charged overnight. Two days later after the first cast in lake I noticed the battery was at 50%. Two days ago I charged again and made sure it's 100% by connecting it to the phone after the charge. I also closed the Strike Cast app. Now 2 ½ days later, it only showed 25% of battery left. Returned it right away. ... show more
