  • Excellent Design and Functionality with a few caveats
Overall I am happy with the layout and functionality of this watch. This is my second Garmin watch. I really like the flow used to setup up activities and the quick reference to the most frequently used items accessed through the function buttons. The one caveat is battery life. While the solar component is supposed to add substantial life to the battery, in practice it provides only minimal improvements in battery life. I have spent entire days at the beach in bright sun with no change in the battery life duration. Also, when the batter is charged via the cable, the watch boasts 20 days of battery life remaining. During normal use, the battery draws down 2-3 day of battery life in 24 hours. In the end I am lucky if I get a week out of the battery. ... show more

  • Excellent sport/smart watch
Great sport / smart watch with incredible battery life. Solid phone app to support all the functions. My only problem was the small display. A personal issue, nothing to do with the watch.

  • Don't waste your money.
I loved this watch, everything except the battery is exactly what I hoped it would be. From the get go the battery life was several days shorter than the claimed 12 days. But I thought hey 10 days is way better than anything else I've had. No less than 12 months from purchase it is nearly useless. The battery last a little over 24 hrs. It has been on a constant decline that accelerated a few months ago. As an Amazon certified renewed purchase, there is only a 30 day warranty. I have a rugged looking paper weight that I can't wear throughout the night to track sleep if I want it to work the next day. There is no recourse, only frustration. The battery in my watch has a manufacturing defect or Garmin is just using poor quality batteries in their watches. Lithium batteries do degrade over time. It is a fact. That said the number of claimed cycles achievable is based on when the battery degrads to 80% of it's constructed capacity, which for lithium is in the 100s to 1000s of cycles, with 1 cycle being 1 full charge. As an example if this watch was sold as having 100 cycles, at 7 days per cycle after 2 years = 104 cycles, the battery should still last more than 5 day between charges. In less than a year my watch has degraded to less than 10% of the capacity at purchase, it is defective or just a piece of shit. Don't risk wasting hundreds of dollars thinking you will save a $100. You will likely be throwing it away in less than a year. This experience has tainted both my perception of Amazon certified renewed devices and Garmin. I gave this 3 stars in hopes of increasing the visibility of my review. If the battery was still lasting a week ... show more

  • Renewed Item: Battery Issues
The Garmin Instinct, for all its features, is a great watch for nearly all your outdoor and exercise needs. After careful study the past three years I landed on my first Garmin Instinct, reading reviews that renewed items saw mixed results, and trusting renewed items can be troubleshooted with success. I'm however returning this specific item due to battery or battery management software allowing only 36 hours (at best) of operation in otherwise the 57 day 'Battery Saver' mode. Other settings (face, accessory, phone connections) saw the duration was 10-15% of the typical. This is my documented conclusion after four days of logging modes vs. recharge vs. time, where software updates through Garmin Express (twice), two resets, and other suggested online troubleshooting and videos were followed over the four day Memorial Day weekend. I'll be asking for an exchange, still believing this is a great item, however this particular piece has unresolved battery or software issues. ... show more

  • Me siento estafada!!!
... show more

  • The previous generation (2022) Garmin Instinct is still an excellent product.
Garmin makes excellent products with great supporting software. While the Garmin Instinct might lack some of the more recent features that you’ll find on Instinct 2, it still has all of the most important options that you expect from a rugged outdoor watch. Why pay a premium price for the newer Instinct 2 or the much less robust Apple urban offerings. ... show more

  • Great watch, but honestly get an analogue watch and a real GPS
I got this wanting to be fast and light for hikes, or at least leave weight for other items in my pack. Honestly, this is the same price as a Garmin in contact mini which can also place SOS calls if you have a Sat phone subscription. I can't say enough nice things about this watch, but just get a health tracking ring if you want those features, and buy an in contact mini for GPS functionality. You don't even need a subscription unless you want it ... show more

  • Perfect for my need
Got this to mark the truck and base camp locations for elk hunting. Two weeks in the Bob Marshall, and the watch never died and never lost the GPS markers. Very helpful for working my way back to camp after dark. The only downside is that there isn't much of a GPS display, pretty much just markers you add. I could have got one with a topo map for the same price, but I couldn't have that on my wrist everyday. I would strongly recommend this for anyone into fitness though, the numerus "fitbit" like settings was not something I expected, but it has replaced my actual fitbit for everyday wear. ... show more

  • Forever battery? Almost
I used the original Instinct for a couple years before buying the solar edition, just to have a better battery life. It transpires that the new Sony GPS sensor (besides being more accurate) uses much less power than the original Instinct sensor and that, combined with the "mild" recharging function provided by the buit-in solar panel gives this watch almost unlimited battery life. Besides that all the plus of the original Instinct are there: no-BS apps, no flimsy touchscreen, rugged body, extremely precise HR sensor and GPS, all the functions that you really need and none of the frills. Highly recommended ... show more

  • Good battery life
I didn’t think of it but I really like how the band feels and how easy it adjusts. The unit is functional for what I wanted. The battery life is great and the solar charge works. Since I am not always near power solar charging/battery life was a must. It is not touch screen but does have basic text alert. The alarm also vibrates as well as tone which is great for noisy environments. ... show more
