But what the seller didn’t mention, was that it was a used device. I thought it was refurbished. Make sure to check that prior to purchase.

  • If you don't have enough reason to doubt your sanity, get a GTM 60! But, oh how nice!
Style: Traffic Receiver Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Many reviewing Garmin nüvi 2455LMT 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates complain that the traffic isn't free because it comes with <horrors>ads</horrors>! Well, nothing's free. TV? Nope. Radio? ads. Free newpapers? ads. Free phone aps? LOL! Free social websites? ROTFL! Someone's gotta pay the freight. *My* concern is that "you will receive Traffic Data...as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its third party content provider." Or, to put it another way, if Garmin goes out of business, we're all out of business! So, while I don't like them, I don't begrudge Garmin their ads. But, while I don't begrudge Garmin their ads, I don't like them. I had an MSN subscription for my previous GPSs, so I was primed to shell out for an ad free receiver (and an added bonus of more frequent updates, 30 seconds v 3 minutes). When you plug in the GTM-60, traffic information is supposed to start within 5 minutes of receiving satellite reception, but there's no obvious way to tell. Under Settings, Traffic continues to show NAVTEQ, there's nothing to indicate which traffic unit the GPS thinks is attached, and there are ads at start up! The instructions say something about registering the unit at [...], but when you go there, there's no way to register the unit! After 20 minutes on hold, I was connected to a knowledgeable technician who sorted things out...and here we go! * The subscription does indeed start up when the GPS connects with a satellite. * There is no need to register the unit to get it to function. * There is no obvious way to tell that the GPS knows it's attached to a 60 rather than the GTM 26 that comes with the GPS. * The ads are cached in memory. They take a few days to go away. * A software update was made available around 11/20/'11, and he recommended strongly that I apply it. It installed easily. But how does it perform? Outstanding! I've had free traffic units and mostly used MSN Direct before the 2012 models came out, so I was expecting something along the same lines...but, NO! I've posted some pictures (taken while I was stopped!) to illustrate what goes on. The GTM-60 has the usual Garmin Traffic Red, Yellow, and Green icons to indicate general traffic conditions. When there are traffic delays, * the GTM-60 begins by turning the title bar grey and describe what's coming up--for example, Stop and go traffic ahead. * After a few seconds, the title bar reverts to green and a grey traffic icon appears on the left hand side of the screen to tell you the distance to the event. * Pressing on this icon gives detailed information about the delay. Very nice! ... show more

  • Short Life Time
Style: Traffic Receiver Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
These cables last about two years before the traffic antenna fails, which isn't bad if your Garmin lasts that long. I would just buy it if you want your traffic updates back.

  • Expensive, but saves the need to have a power and data-hog app on my phone
Style: Traffic Receiver Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
First off, I purchased a DriveSmart 70 with lifetime maps and traffic. What was not clear initially was that the traffic was dependent on having either a smart phone with Garmin's Smartphone Link or by purchasing one of these GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receivers. After trying the Smartphone Link and finding that it refuses to shut down when not connected to the GPS and continues to run, using both data and battery, I uninstalled it (tried it twice and uninstalled it both times) and purchased this traffic receiver instead. I'm not on an unlimited data plan, so the upside to this device is that it will save me money in the long run. However, the payback time for it will be several years. Hopefully, the devices will still be operational and supported by that time. It is easy to use. Plug it in and place it so that the little inline antenna is lying on the dash and not covered. It replaces the 12V power cord and communicates through the USB connection that also powers the GPS. It picked up that I had the traffic already,, so I did not have to set it up like I would have if I had owned one of the older units without traffic buiilt in. As for operation, it takes several minutes to load traffic data. I have not compared this slow acquisition with the app to see if that was also slow. I also have not had it long enough to evaluate the accuracy of the traffic information. I will use it more and if warranted, will update my rating. ... show more
