  • Perfect!👍
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
I've gone through all the screens, updated the software through the connect app. I get phone notifications and music controls through the unit that's synched with Amazon music. I updated the map options and also synched with my Varia radar. I'm ready to use it this weekend. The factory screen protector is still on the unit when I took the photos, so disregard that. I plan on removing it before my test ride. I only purchased this unit for the map navigation, because I'm not into performance, just basic riding around town stopping at coffee shops, etc. I put a cheap generic silicone case on it, and it looks good and fits good. ... show more

  • Simple to use with all the features a recreational cyclist could want
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
Use for recreational bike riding. As a senior my wife and I enjoy biking and keeping track of mileage, routes, speed and a few other metrics. This unit is a replacement for a Garmin 520 which I never became fully comfortable with. The explore 2 is very intuitive and thus a pleasure to use. Nice big screen that is easy to read in all conditions. ... show more

  • Good GPS, but needs better user interface.
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
The GPS battery life is only average. I get about 8 or 9 hours out of it, but I am using the Garmin Varia 515 with it which makes it use more battery. The user interface is confusing. It is sometimes hard to get back to the screen with the miles and speed display. You can slide up or down or side to side to get to different screens. Screen would be better if it only went from side to side and not up and down. Screen is laggy when you try to move the map. It is way slower than my cell phone to move map around. The user experience reminds me of a 2007 smart phone. It looks like windows 95. The screen is definitely not nice looking like a modern cell phone. Make sure to set the screen backlight to 30 seconds or so. If you leave it to always on battery only lasts about 4 hours. ... show more

  • Great overall with one odd flaw
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
This is my fourth bike-specific garmin and they keep improving. The navigation and touch screen on this device is great. Loading courses and using them while riding is easy and intuitive. Climb Pro is revolutionary. This device has everything for a serious cyclist except for structured training (I will use another service for structured training so that’s not an issue for me). One odd and aggravating flaw: someone in Garmin decided that 3.0 mph is the minimum speed for auto pause. Even setting to “when stopped” pauses recording when below 3.0mph. Fine for road cycling but on single track at a 14% grade, I had to stop mid climb and turn off auto pause in order to capture data. I hope they correct this in a future firmware update. That flaw aside, I would buy again and am giving this device 5 stars. ... show more

  • Shipped with old OS, bulky and heavy, low contrast display, mediocre battery life
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
Moved up from an Edge 130, mostly for the music control widget. I like to know what track is playing, and getting the phone out of a jersey pocket repeatedly was inconvenient. I had a hard time finding the music control widget because the computer was shipped with an old operating system that didn't include it; took some troubleshooting and downloading Garmin Express to figure it out. The climbing feature is nice, but some of the text is small for my old eyes. Also nice is the auto backlight when riding through tunnels and at night. The unit came with all of the US map preloaded -- impressive. Lots of wasted real estate for the unit; the display area is surrounded by a lot of unused area, making the computer very large for what it is, and it's also pretty hefty. A more muted color would have been nice. Edit: changed rating from 4-stars to 2-stars. For older riders with progressive sunglasses, the display is hard to read in indirect light. The battery level is not linear: goes from 8 hours to zero within 3 hours; also, battery life even without navigation is about the same as the Edge 130. ... show more

  • Great bike computer for navigation
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
This is somewhat simpler than my previous Edge 830 and lacks some of the in depth training data however the screen is larger and the mapping and navigation are fantastic. It does everything I need it to do.

  • It is very difficult to load existing courses with Garmin Connect
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
The touch screen works well as does rerouting. Existing courses in your PC are difficult to load using Garmin Connect. This device is incompatible with Basecamp. There is not enough storage to load both US and Europe maps at the same time.

  • Reboots Constantly
Style: Standard Pattern Name: Navigator
I have been through two edge explore 2 units and they both would shut down and restart during my rides. I was following courses which I loaded. This is a serious problem. Luckily i was also using ride with gps app on my phone as a back up. The edge seems like a great unit otherwise but new garmin devices can have software that is not ready for primetime. I should know this! ... show more
