  • Amazing value and performance for the price
Style: Chartplotter
This is the older line, which is being replaced by the UHD2 series over time. Thing is, the UHD 2 has a non-networking 5” or 7”, and a bunch of super pricey larger options. Sure the newer line has an updated user interface that’s crisper looking and “tab” based, but I honestly prefer the older “icon” based interface. If you’ve ever used handhelds it feels much more familiar. The included transducer is still state-of-the-art, and they give you a bail mount that the unit snaps in and out of (the newer ones have to be unscrewed and pulled). Face cover is also included. I have no regrets sending back the newer UHD2 and going with the original UHD series. As long as they still make both that’s my recommendation. Other than some graphics improvements the UHD2s are just decontented versions of this. ... show more

  • Expected Garmin Quality
Style: Chartplotter
I used this fishfinder for lake fishing as well as crabbing and shrimping. I first purchased it in July, after previously owned another Garmin. It was stolen out of my car in a smash and grab in October, so this is a repurchase. Unfortunately many years of marked hotspots left with the SD card plus mapping of ocean bottom. I am reprogramming it, renewing my frustration with Garmin's lack of intuitive customization menus, and manual organization (very NMEA & ActiveCaptain focused), but the product's quality is undeniable. I really like the product! ... show more

  • 5 stars except bracket is a little flimsy.
Style: Chartplotter
First the bad; I mounted the it with the rotating puck and the bracket is flimsy and I'm worried it's going to vibrate too much when I bang through chop in my classic whaler. anybody who's ever ridden a classic whaler in chop knows exactly what I'm talking about. We'll see, haven't had it on the water yet but I'm concerned about it. Might have to reinforce it or something. Kind of lame. This replaced my 1994 Humminbird wide 100 fishfinder. Bombproof bracket, gameboy quality screen. I really can't compare the fishfinder features on this unit to anything else but they seem absolutely amazing to me, given what I'm used to. The navionics charts look great. Much better than the NOAA charts I've been using. It's got depth contours for almost every lake around me. Perfect for an inland fisherman. I was able to customize the chart display and set routes and stuff pretty easily. The bells and whistles on this thing are crazy. I got it to do bluetooth and wifi with my phone, put an SD card in it to save my depth data, and now it's got me thinking about new boat upgrades like an NMEA2000 RPM interface for my classic outboard and an AIS VHF radio. Still I mostly bought it for the chartplotter and fishfinder capabilities both of which seem outstanding so far. ... show more

  • Keeps us off the sand bars and shallow spots!
Style: Chartplotter
We don’t take the boat out without the Garmin. The lake has a lot of submerged timber and sand bars and the Maps are very accurate.

  • No signal from the tranducer. Not worth the price, save your money.
Style: Chartplotter
I had this unit and the transducer that shipped with it, installed on my boat by a Marina Tech in July. Worked fine for three trips, then I could not load saved maps. Called Garmin support, they said to do a software update. Followed the online instructions, downloaded update to a micro SD card. Loaded card into Garmin unit, the update installed. Now I have no depth or sonar readings. Screen prompt says "Transducer short circuit detected" (see photo) This is the exact same transducer that was working perfectly before the software update! This new Garmin, replaced an old Garmin GPS 451 that I used for years. Should have kept using the old one, it always worked. ... show more
