I needed a watch to keep track of a ten year old boy. This one is perfect. It’s simple and intuitive to use but not childish and he loves wearing it. . Looks like a nice watch rather than a toy. I’m able to set a boundary and receive notification if he goes outside of the boundary. I am able to quickly look at his location with precise and accurate detail - even provides the street address. I especially like the ability to receive or make calls and messages. There are additional activity trackers and simple games on the watch but no internet access. The watch requires a subscription of Garmin Jr to be used on the adult phone and that costs an additional $100/year but is well worth it. It does require daily charging if highest level of tracking and messaging is enabled. Well worth the money and much preferred over other trackers.

Garmin really messed up with the Bounce 2 Kids Smartwatch. I have been a fan of Garmin devices for years but sent the Bounce 2 devices I ordered back after just two days of testing they were so bad. We were early adopters of the original Garmin Bounce and waited a little while for the price to come down and some firmware updates to become available before buying the Bounce 2 since we were generally still happy with the original Bounce. I finally figured it would be a nice incremental upgrade with better satellite connectivity and presumably overall upgraded hardware given the dramatically increased price point compared to the original. The good news is that the screen is definitely brighter, the device seems a little more responsive overall, and when driving around with it and the original Garmin Bounce together it was more accurately showing route paths and not clipping corners at turns the way the original Bounce likes to do. Though it’s personal preference, my elementary school aged girls both disliked that Garmin has a very plain band on this device, not a whimsically patterned band like the original Bounce devices we own. They were also bummed that there were no cute preloaded background pictures with animals and fun scenes the way there are on the original Bounce since they always switch between the cute animal backgrounds on the original Bounce and thought the Bounce 2 was boring in comparison. From my perspective, Garmin took what was a fun device for younger kids and turned it into more of a device for older kids, making it essentially just another adult product instead of setting it apart as an actual fun kid-centric product offering the way the original Bounce is. Candidly, the black Bounce 2 could just as easily be a Venu since outwardly nothing about it gives it kid watch vibes. Despite its shortcomings, I really wanted to still like it, but the deal breaker was the inexplicably poor LTE cellular connectivity, which somehow is substantially worse than the original Bounce. The original Bounce would typically maintain a 1-2 (out of 4 total) bar level on the signal strength meter inside my home and a 2-3 bars outside. The first Bounce 2 I received was consistently not wanting to connect at all inside, only intermittently connecting with one bar signal strength. When I brought it outside, even though completely stationary, it was wildly variable between no signal and 3 bars, so I thought perhaps it was defective and reached out to customer service via chat since it was a Saturday afternoon and for some reason Garmin does not have weekend phone support available. They talked me through some basic troubleshooting and then had me sign out and back in to my account in their smart phone app and remove and re-sync my device with my phone. Unsurprisingly that had no impact and I was fed up with their support representatives at that point and ordered a second one, thinking the first one must just be defective. The second one arrived and still would only very sporadically establish LTE connectivity inside the house, which ultimately would be okay, though not optimal, since after testing LTE I would have allowed it to connect to my Wi-Fi network and it wouldn't necessarily need LTE connectivity in the house; though it concerned me that it may not work well in other indoor environments as well. I was still disappointed it only seemed to have 1-2 bars outside but since it was stable, unlike the first seemingly flaky one I received, I decided to take it for a test drive. I took one of my original Bounce devices and the new Bounce 2 for approximately a ten-mile test drive for a real-world test where the Bounce 2 failed spectacularly, to the point I question how Garmin allowed this product to be approved for sale. The one non-negotiable feature of a kids tracker that has to be rock solid is the ability to actually track the device, and that's where the Bounce 2 completely fails. I enabled the LiveTrack function to have both the original Bounce and Bounce 2 share real-time continuous tracking data and then started driving the path my childrens’ school bus takes where both devices performed reasonably well with the original Bounce providing updates a little more rapidly and the Bounce 2 providing an ever so slightly more accurate line plot of the route being followed. Then I drove to a nearby park and a small city downtown area where we may be likely to walk around and I would potentially need to locate the children. The park is known to have weak cellular coverage, but the original Bounce continued to provide near real-time updates; just faltering by a few seconds as it perhaps had some minor connectivity issues at a couple points in the park. Conversely, the Bounce 2 completely stopped providing tracking updates about a half mile before even arriving at the park and then did not start updating again until back at the park entrance, making it useless if my child actually wandered off wearing it in the park. In the nearby small city downtown area that has generally good cellular coverage, for some reason the Bounce 2 completely lost its cellular connection again. Though the device was logging the data and eventually uploaded it, the Bounce 2 did not manage to connect to readily available cellular networks during a 10+ minute nearly three-mile drive from that downtown area to my home. I got home, showed my wife how ridiculous it was that it was showing as still being three miles away so she knew why I was returning it, and then finally a couple minutes later when I stepped back outside with it, the device managed to get a cellular signal again and upload the logged data to reflect the devices travel path and actual current location in the Garmin Jr. app. Given that it is completely unreliable as a real-time tracking device, I cannot strongly enough warn other parents against purchasing the Bounce 2. I'm hopeful Garmin finds their way again and releases a Bounce 3 that is actually kid friendly, has rock solid LTE cellular capability, and maybe even has improved multi-day battery life, but for now I'm sticking with the original Bounce.

Overall we have been extremely satisfied with this watch. Battery will last about two days more or less depending on how much it gets played with. It gets decent service except for in buildings. Garmin finally updated their app so that you have another option for contacts rather than everyone having full access. My daughter loves the music feature when she is hanging out with her friends. It is super simple to add a playlist that is just for her on the Amazon music app. The band is replaceable despite what other reviews say. You just need the little screwdriver or watch tool to release the spring inside the band connection. We love that is waterproof!! Honestly it is the biggest selling feature for us. We also love that the annual subscription is a very manageable amount unlike an apple watch or gizmo. Our only real problem with the watch is the service and the need for the app to communicate. It doesn’t work well in buildings so if you need to send a message while you are in the grocery store or ice area forget it unless you step outside. Despite all that it does exactly what we need and that is helping us keep track of our kids so they can have a little independence.

The size of the watch was to bulky for my 8 year old. The tracking was so off even when we where not even 2 miles away. It gave us random emergency alerts and showed her running in the woods when she already got home from in a car. I was very disappointed since its a 300 dollar watch. My daughter if taken we would have not been able to track or help her. The color she loved the green. The games were fun but it was not all for that. I didn’t like how you couldn’t get a bumper or cover to protect the screen! Or change the bands on it. I’ll be calling to get refund on the subscription since 100 for the year was worthless since it didn't work.

Easy to set up and use and it looks great! The battery life is good....usually lasts for 2-3 days between charges. It has made staying in contact with my daughter amazing and I love the to do tracker!!! It has motivated my daughter to get her steps in and to earn her stars for rewards! While it is a little on the pricey side, the peace of mind knowing my daughter is safe is worth every penny! Highly recommend!

I was very disappointed with this watch. I had decided to buy it because the gizmo through Verizon had unreliable tracking capabilities. I was also excited that the Garmin is more waterproof. Turns out this was a lateral move or maybe even a downgrade. The bands are not interchangeable, so if your kid thinks they’re uncomfortable, too bad! The location tracker is not any better than the gizmo. Battery life is good, ease of use is fine. Value for the money is garbage. You can turn the device off, but you cannot turn your child’s device on from your phone, something you can do with the gizmo. Messaging and calling is difficult for young children. After paying for a year of service and the watch itself, it wound up being about a $400 investment. You would think that during the market research they would realize that parents need control over whether or not the device is on, and that sensory issues exist in a lot of children, so switching out the bands is kind of important. Finally, what parents really want is to know in real time exactly where their kid is for safety. If I can see my spouse move from room to room on Snapchat, I should be able to watch my child do the same when I invest in a $400 watch.
