The narrow tip of the shovel makes it easier to get soil and fertilizer into small plant pots. It works great for me because I always spilled the fertilizer outside of the pot. The tip of the shovel has markings in inches and centimeters, making it easy to visualize the depth of the soil, which made it easier to dig a consistent depth of soil for planting seeds. I posted the pictures of the scissors and shovel so you can compare the sizes. The scissors are small but sharp. The handles open and close smoothly, so the small size doesn't bother me. The trowel is fine with a good handle for gripping as you dig. I really like the indention for your thumb. It's stamped with inches and centimeters, but I don't imagine that feature would be useful after the first plunge into dirt. Five stars for the trowel. The shears are plenty sharp, but problematic unless you have small hands and only go for light pruning. The narrow handles and the strong spring caused these shears to almost jump out of my hand when a small branch finally cuts off. Sadly, I just can't get a secure grip on them with one hand. Yes, a 3/4" branch might fit in the cutters, but I had to use two hands to cut through a solid 5/16" holly branch. Three stars for the shears. Some minor issues with my shears' construction: * With the lock lever 100% open, the shears only opened 50% -- I thought they were broken. Easily solved by just slightly releasing the lock. * With the shears fully closed and locked, the sharp blade edge extended past the guard by almost 1mm. ... show more

These tools are comfortable to use and work well. The pruning shears are sharp and cut well for light plant pruning. They might not be great for larger tasks, but I was looking for something smaller anyway. The locking mechanism is easy to open and close. These are a lightweight set, but have decent sized handles, easy to hold and use. I have only used it for filling pots with potting soil so far, but the shovel seems sturdy. I have had cheap tools before, and these aren't that, probably more like a mid-range set. ... show more

I ordered this set mainly for the pruning shears, and the trowel was going to be a nice bonus. The trowel is nice, but the shears are very disappointing. I like the day-glow yellow color of this set that makes it easy to see. The trowel is heavy duty with a highly polished stainless steal shovel and grip-y ergonomically designed handle. It also has some inch and centimeter markings on it for bulb planting. The pruning shears are sharp and work well. HOWEVER, there is a serious design flaw. The safety lock falls into the locked position EVERY TIME I cut with these. It won't stay unlocked. This is EXTREMELY frustrating. I don't see any way to fix this design problem. This is disappointing because I mainly ordered this set for the pruning shears. The retail price at the time of this review is $9.99. This is a low price for a set like this, so I guess you get what you pay for. If you don't mind your shears locking with every cut, order this set for the good deal. If you want shears that will stay unlocked until you lock them, keep looking. My rating, based on the price and the mixed quality of the tools: three stars. ... show more

This is a set of one each of gardenfÿ shouvel to ai1d in removing or replacing dirt to pant small plants, seeds or even an adverage sized plant, tree or shrub. Both items have a good weight to them and usage of both is reliable and easy to use. For the price point I feel these to help in the planting of small plants (mint) and trim limbs off of shrubbery. With proper care and maintainence of these items replacement won't be needed for quite some time, unless... I lose them. ... show more

Tools are strong, well-made, steel is thick. Not your garden-variety cheap tools that are often found in box stores and nurseries. Pruners were sharp and mechanism works well.     • Not for heavy pruning
The shovel works very well. The shape of the tip makes it easy to dig smaller holes but also go deep when transplanting mid sized plants. The pruning shears are disappointing. The handle is not ergonomic at all; it is just covered with rubber to make it feel soft. They do very well on delicate work, and smaller stems. But when I tried on larger projects my hand could not get a comfortable grip, so it was more work and my hand tired sooner than it should have. I would not recommend this set unless you are only doing light pruning. I would rather spend more and get better shears. ... show more
