First, the basics: These are very solid, well-crafted, meaningful tools of high quality and design for a select subset of possible gardening applications. I admit that I was initially skeptical about the seemingly cheap plastic handles of the shears, but the shears themselves cut super well... so I can forgive the plastic handles of the shears and simply won't leave them out in the sun. The tools can be extended to about twice their original length with easily twisted on extension poles. But, I wonder whether the twist lock mechanism to attach the extension handles to the tools might come loose after much twisting use of the shovels etc. It's possible, over time with with force, they can untwist, but in the short tests I ran twisting these tools in the dirt, they did not come loose at all, and the connection seems legit. I can update this as I learn more. But, again, the summary here is that overall, these are a GREAT product in terms of quality. I think (very personal comment) that they balance strength and lightness just right. They seem to be robust, significant, hard-working, long-lasting tools. They seem to m to be robust and legitimate. This is not so much a critique, but a caution. The design seems quite specialized to me. The moral of my story is that if YOU need such tools as these, they will be great. But, many gardeners will need bigger/longer varieties. So, just make sure you know the sizes accurately represented in the photos before purchasing so as not to be disappointed. Most Appropriate Applications: I think they are best used as illustrated and, thus, the photos are truthful in their advertising. If you are doing small-scale (residential) tabletop gardening or raised-bed gardening... they will be great. If you are fine being on your knees while gardening (or you are very short) and planting small shrubs and flowers, they will be equally great. But, if you are doing stand-up gardening with larger plants, they are not made for this application. So, in summary, they are GREAT, sturdy, well-made, significant hand tools for small-job applications. If you want full-sized tools for full-sized jobs (trees, etc.), these are not for you. Regarding their ability (when extended) to remain tightly screwed (connected) remains to be seen. Look to other reviews (or come back to mine after we more fully test them) to see if the twisting motions of the tools in the dirt might cause the twist-connection to loosen over time. If so, that would be a demotion of a star or two... but until I know that's truly a problem, I'm giving them 5 stars for being truthful about the type of limited application for which they are (well) designed. This is a nice set of garden tools for the price. The construction of these tools is strong and durable. They hace a durable coating on the metal to prevent them from rusting. I love the fact you can extend the tool with the twist on handles. This set is great for light to medium gardening. I wouldn't use this set for heavy duty gardening as I don't think they could do the job of a true garden shovel. Overall, I really like this set and I believe these tools will last me for many years.
