Not a 1 season throw away tool

I've actually purchased two of these, because the first one got lost in the jungle that is my veggie garden (no reflection on the tool, only on the gardener). Despite regular abuse, it's remained useable, as I suspect it will still be when I find it again. The new one has its own hook in the garage, and I will give it the care it properly deserves, because this thing is WICKED at pulling out Bermuda grass. You can really dig down to the "mother" root ball and start feeling some vague, fleeting hope that you might beat the stuff. It's also terrific for lighter cultivation jobs, knocking down weed seedlings between rows, and so on. I can honestly say this is my favorite garden tool and one I consider indispensable.

Excellent for weeding under tomato plants. It has 5 sharp pointed claws that breaks the soil and pulls weed roots to surface.

It's a good size for most gardening uses and the claw does a great job at loosening soil, pulling up weeds, and cleaning the planter beds up. I wouldn't use it to pry rocks apart or lift heavy pavers, that would probably break the tines off where they're welded. Nice and comfortable and is weathering well after a few months of use. I don't know what "military grade steel" is but the strength is good and so far nothing's broken or bent out of shape.

. . . being the tool is most likely made in China or Taiwan. There is no label or imprinting of any kind to suggest where the tool is manufactured. That being said, the welding and construction of the steel claw looks to be well done. Rivets hold tight and are not crooked. What I like about the handle is it is really solid, tough wood with a glossy varnish finish; quite top notch. The problem with this - as other reviewers have noted - is the handle really gets slippery when wet so it's best to install one of those rubber grips like on tennis rackets. I would prefer a web on the splines but nobody on Amazon sells a claw like this, so I will have to look for it on my next rental car trip in Japan.

I am raising roses now, and need to cultivate not only around their roots, but also among them. I need a device that can drag out weeds for the root ball without disturbing the rose roots. The tines are spaced perfectly for this work, and with it, I can use one tine alone, or all together, and the roses reward me abundantly. This tool is designed to do the job well, and with a little care can reasonably be expected to last a life time. A good solid wood handle, well mounted to the high quality steel parts, and a convenient leather thong make this a tool a delight to use. I rate I with the Felco pruner: the best there is, a bit pricy, and always worth the price.
