This is a great addition to my rake arsenal, and here's why: **Ideal for raking underneath plants without damage - This is where this rake really shines, in my opinion. The ends of the tines of the rake have rounded balls, so they don't tear plants when you rake underneath them, like most cheap rakes will. This is a more gentle, but more precise rake, so you can trust it around tender plants like lettuce, when you're doing garden cleanup during the season. ** Well Constructed - The metal is heavy duty without being heavy. Almost the entire thing is made of strong metal, with few plastic pieces, so I don't think it will break. It feels like it's a more expensive tool than it is. ** Easy to Store because it is Adjustable - It was a little bit tricky to adjust the first time, and I wondered if I would be able to actually expand the tines on the end, but once I got it fully open, it adjusted after that with no problems. (Maybe I was just not being forceful enough the first time for fear of messing something up.) It expands to almost 15 inches - see picture with the measuring tape. Then, when you're done using it, you can shrink it back down to the original size by pulling the lever back, so it stores more easily in a more compact area than a usual rake that can't be contracted. I like that a lot. **Great for Narrow Areas - This rake will be a great side tool, but it isn't going to be the main rake you use in the fall to clean up all of the leaves in your yard...it's too narrow for that. It will be good for getting into the small corners, though. This is a great rake for the purpose that it is intended to serve, and I highly recommend it!

SEE UPDATE BELOW: I have a smaller version of this rake, and I love it for small jobs. However, I've been looking for the same style rake in a larger version, so I was thrilled to find this one. The length of this rake is impressive. In fact, I won't be using all the parts because it's too long otherwise. Unfortunately, there's one major problem with the rake. The rake head won't expand. As it is, the head is far too narrow to be a useful rake With the expandable rakes, you move a latch at the bottom and slide the entire head down. Once the head widens, you move the latch back to lock it in place. The head on the rake I received won't slide down, regardless of whether the latch is up or down. If there's something I need to remove prior to using the rake for the first time, such as a screw, I have no way of knowing this because the rake came with absolutely no written directions at all. Either I received a defective rake, or this company needs to include written direction specifically stating how to expand the rake head. For now, I'm a very frustrated rake owner who purchased a rake with an expandable head that won't actually expand. If you're looking for a rake with a wide head, don't bother purchasing this one, or you'll be extremely disappointed. UPDATE: The seller suggested that I twist the expanding head while pushing it because it might be tight at first. It took lots of attempts, but eventually the head was able to expand. As previously stated, there's no written information included with the rake. It would be helpful to include this suggestion either with the rake or in the online listing. Although I'm much happier with the rake now that the head expands, I still have one complaint. The listing indicated that the rake expands to 17 inches, but mine only expands to 13 inches. I tried opening and closing the head multiple times just to see if it was stiff, but I never got the head wider than 13 inches. Four inches may not sound like much of a difference, but the wider the rake head, the more you can get accomplished. I'm also a stickler when it comes to truth in advertising.

Tines adjust from 7.5 inches wide to 14 inches wide. The rake piece has a sliding clamp to widen or narrow the tines. Narrow for tight locations or storage. Each tine has a ball/rounded tip which won't scratch deck or other sensitive surfaces. Four 15 inch handle sections screw together for the length you need. One handle section for close work, or all 4 sections to reach way under your deck. It's almost 7 feet long from tip to tip with all 4 handles. Screw together handles can be iffy [SEE EDIT], b̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶s̶e̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶m̶ ̶s̶o̶l̶i̶d̶ ̶e̶n̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶n̶o̶r̶m̶a̶l̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶f̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶y̶a̶r̶d̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶k̶. It's such an elegant rake you might hesitate to get it dirty, but the clean metal surface is easily cleanable. If storage space is limited, unscrew the handles to fit it in a 24" x 8" x 2-3" space. One slight negative, the curved part of the tines catch a tiny bit in the holes in the 'expander' piece when the tines are fully narrowed. Slide the clamp firmly to expand. EDIT: Dropping a few stars due to the handle threads being poorly formed. All are good except for the section with the handle cap on the end, which will not tighten. I might glue that one connection because it's the actual handle end, but it's super annoying. Guys, those threads need to connect better. Please fix that. It's a pretty great rake otherwise, but the handle falling apart is a problem. UPDATE: Sat. Aug 3, 2024 Seller replaced the "not great" handle, and I'm happy to report the new handle works as intended. It tightens up just fine. My only complaint with this rake is cured, and I now rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Am very happy now, as this is such a great compactable rake.
