Description

Dare to enter Dragonwood! Deep in the heart of this mythical forest lurk angry ogres, giggling goblins, and even the famed and fearsome fire-breathers themselves! Collect sets of adventurer cards to earn dice, which you will use to roll against your foes. Stomp on some fire ants, shriek at a grumpy troll, or strike the menacing orange dragon with a magical silver sword. Choose your strategy carefully because the landscape of Dragonwood is ever-changing. Only the bravest will overcome the odds to emerge victorious! It may be hard to imagine, but Dragonwood, with its vast array of richly illustrated cards, started out looking much different than where it ended. Inventor Darren Kisgen submitted a prototype without a single illustration - just simple words and numbers written in marker on blank white cards. Well apparently that's all was needed, because within moments, our play testers were enraptured with the simple-to-learn but deeply engaging fantasy-themed game. Illustrator Chris Beatrice beautifully captured the wit and humor depicted in Darren's words to create one of our most visually appealing games.

  • One of the best games out there, great for all ages
Style: Board Game
A great card and dice based game. It has basic mechanics that are easy for kids to learn, but it's still fun for adults too! It's a blend of strategy and luck. It is one of my favorites, my family and I have spent lots of time playing this game.

  • Wonderful Surprise
Style: Board Game
Just got back into board games and started building a collection. Saw a few videos on this and it seemed simple and fun. It's fantastic for a quick game for adults or a solving problem game for younger people. Easy to understand and they give you little rules cards you can reference until you memorize so you're not going through a handbook. Materials feel very nice and the artwork is fun and well done. For the price you can't beat this fun and easy game. ... show more

  • Love this game!
Style: Board Game
Everyone we introduce this game to ends up buying it. We actually left this game somewhere and loved it so much that we repurchased it. It's competitive but not too crazy. It's challenging and strategic but just enough to make it exciting. Easy enough for an 8 year old, but fun enough for adults. The instructions are easy to follow. The game pieces are quality. It's also nice and compact. Great price for a game that we will play forever. ... show more

  • Not just for kids! Adults can have fun too!
Style: Board Game
Short review: Dragonwood is a fun, easy game to play. It’s not just for kid but also great for adults. If you enjoy card games, RPG, or fantasy genre you’ll love Dragonwood. Long review: My wife and I both are big readers of fantasy books and we love card games like Uno. I wanted to find a simple and fun RPG game for us. Majority of RPG board games are over complicated. They can take a long time to play and an even longer time to learn lol Then they can take forever to set up and clean up Dragonwood is the opposite of all that. It’s super easy to learn, quick to play, and has almost no set up just shuffle a couple decks and you’re ready! The artwork is fun and lighthearted. Collecting cards to roll and battle monsters is a blast, and the enhancement cards add great perks. The event cards mix things up nicely too. We’ve played it many times and it has excellent replay value. Despite its kid-friendly look its excellent for adults as well. If you enjoy fantasy books or movies and love games, you’ll adore Dragonwood. It’s now part of our regular game nights alongside Uno, Monopoly Deal, and Yahtzee. Pro tip: Have a pint of beer and play fantasy music in the background while playing Dragonwood lol ... show more

  • Great artwork, easy to learn, good replay value
Style: Board Game
Component quality is a solid 5 star. The artwork is gorgeous. The game itself is easy to learn. On your turn, you choose from the available creatures to attack. You collect cards into runs(strike), sets(stomp), or flushes(scream). The number of cards you play is the number of dice you can roll. The if your total points on the dice is equal or greater than the defense of that creature, then you defeat them and collect the trophy points for that creature. At the end of the game, player with the most trophy points wins. This game exceeded my expectations. It looks simple. There's luck, but definitely more skill is required. The game could be taught in a matter of 2 minutes. The game is great in every way....but.... This is one of those games where after you play the first time, you'll start making your own house rules. The rules state that on your turn you can pick up a card or play cards for an attack. Our first game or two had several turns where we just went back and forth picking up cards until one of us had enough to play. We preferred these house rules to keep the game going faster and more fun: - Everyone starts with 5 cards - On your turn, you can either pick up 1 card or lay down 1 or more cards for an attack. - If you attack and win, you draw cards until you have at least 5 cards in your hand. - If you attack and loose, you do NOT draw cards at the end of your turn (there's no 1 card penalty) - There's no limit to the number of cards you can hold. There's a rule that states you may not hold more than 9 cards, but we saw no reason for such a limit. It makes little sense to hold that many cards. We found it best to eliminate the rule just to keep the rule list shorter. - Ladybug cards are not played until the start of your turn. If you pick up a ladybug card at the end of your turn, you must wait until your next turn to use it. You can also save ladybug cards if you wish. - Ladybug cards could either be used to draw two more cards from the deck or played as a wild card as part of your hand (optional). There's already a wild card in the creature deck, but because it's a one time use card, it's power isn't very balanced compared to other enhancement cards. With these rule modifications, the game tends to go faster. As a result, we eliminated the end game rules. We play until every creature has been defeated. This was also due to the fact that my daughter wanted to play through the whole deck of creatures. The basic mechanics and artwork make this a 5 star game, but the rules and some of the cards didn't seem very balanced. More could be done with the enhancement cards in regards to balance and usage. Definitely a solid game that lends itself to house rules to keep it interesting. Fast and simple. My daughter loved it. ... show more

  • Young kids love this game
Style: Board Game
I played this at my nephew's house and he was so excited about it I bought it for my house and my godson came over and also loved it. It takes a minute to figure it out but it is simple enough for kids that are 5-7 to play and they love it. It is also fun to play with them as adults. Some kids games are torture, this one is fun. It also seems educational as it helps them practice counting and pattern recognition and critical thinking. It goes fairly quickly, it is a small box that you could take with you. It was very reasonably priced for the enjoyment and entertainment gotten out of it. It came quickly and wasn't missing any pieces. I would highly recommend it. The gameplay involves them collecting cards of either the same number, color or numbers in a row to make a play. You get the number of dice to roll as you have cards to play and have to roll a number higher than the value of the card you are trying to capture which has a creature like dragons and trolls on them. It uses special dice that only go up to 4, so don't lose them, I'm not sure those are available for sale by themselves. I think this would be a good game if your kids want to play card games but aren't old enough to understand all the rules that go into more advanced card games like Dominion or Pokemon. When they get older get dominion, it's much more complicated but endless fun even for adults. ... show more
