I put in batteries and turned it on. Gameboy lights up on the screen with a small chime but "nintendo" underneath has garbled graphics. I went out and got brand new batteries and tried again. Same thing. Game never loads. Gameboy stays on screen the whole time. Switched games multiple times. Nothing. Would have been better to order earlier and figure out it was shite before Christmas as it was a present for my husband.

Reading most of the reviews here and was hoping I would be lucky overall.... The screen and case are the only things that are in excellent condition and really does look almost new. However, there is some issue with the audio as if you turn up the volume high, you do hear a feedback noise and the speak audio is not as loud as I remember. Even if you use a headphone jack, that feedback noise remains but if you put the audio mid-range it's not bad to bear. Also, one of the battery springs is clearly not cleaned, and there is also dirt or residue inside the case. I know it's an old device, but was hoping it was truly cleaned and in Excellent condition as described. I'm still happy with it and it brings back memories, but I would give it a 5 rating if it wasn't dirty on the inside. (Yes, it does work and the game has no issues playing lol)
