  • I read a review of this product that said....
... "one of the tubes's paint oozed all out the first time they opened it." So, knowing the nature of tubed oils, and since it's mid-July, I decided that when I got the tubes, I'd check for pressure and what not when I got them. Yup. I bought two sets and I checked all six tubes. The violet seemed ok. The red and the ochre were under a little excess pressure. One audiably went pufft, when I opened it, but it didn't ooze. Shoved a kebab stick into the tube, got a few more sssssst's, stirred it a littlebit. One was oily at the top and did ooze a bit, as if some oil separated fro the pigment a bit. That's not uncommon with oils. One tube, I wasn't paying attention when I opened it, then looked to see about 1/2 inch of paint erupted from the tube, then stopped. You can squeeze the tube the "right" way to get it back in the tube. Poked a stick into that one too to swish it all around. Going to let them all acclimate to their new surroundings but I sure am glad I read that review otherwise I'd have a few mini paint bombs lyin about. ... show more

  • Great colors and very cool textures
I love using these colors! They are so great for landscapes involving trees, or brown and red hair in portraits. The Iron Violet has become a quick go to as a cooler brown without leaning too blue. The Rust Red is a nice vivid color. The Brown Ochre is a pretty simple color. The other two are where the pack really shines- the Rust Red also has a slightly grainy texture that I love for some extra tooth on canvas or panel. Speaking of which, the prepared panel that the box comes in is GREAT and I wish I could get more- it's a thick backed panel that's already gessoed! I'll probably buy these again once I run out- they've lasted me a while so far but for those special spots I need them, they're PERFECT. ... show more

  • Great addition to my paint box!
I was looking for a violet to replace purple ochre by rublev. This is a perfect match! The entire set looks perfect for flesh tones. The consistency of the paint is exactly like my other gamblin paints. The gesso board was a nice addition. I am super happy with this set.

  • Good for the landscape
Reclaiming project worthwhile. Colors await trial but good entries to earth pigments range.

  • New product
I love trying out new art supplies. So when I saw this recycled piant by Gamblin I had to try it. It came with a small primed cradled panel by American Easle which was a bonus. I'm excited to try it.

  • It's like MAGIC
I'm not a professional artist my any means, but I love the absolute heck out of this set. The Iron Violet in particular took me by surprise because it LOOKS like a solid dark red, but when you mix it with white, it turns in to this lovely pale milky violet that is just a dream to work with. Rust Red also is amazing for skin tones and buildings alike and Brown Ochre is a beautiful shade that I haven't used properly yet but I will be delighted when the project comes up. As well, the paint is consistent, smooth, and of really high quality as far as my amateur self can tell. I've never been so happy to own a set of paint made out of garbage. ... show more
