I used to use those super thick 1in yoga mats because I have a sensitive back and I always felt like I was laying directly on the floor when I used normal mats— but for a variety of reasons (aesthetic, risk of wrist hyperflexion, etc) have since decided to graduate to a thinner, less clunky/less squishy mat and also one that would be non-slip/extra grip etc since I do hot yoga (<< this was my main reason for purchasing a new mat). When I first pulled this one out of the box and tried it at home, I actually really liked it — it is very dense, firm, and still offered great support for my back and knees. I was excited to take this to my hot yoga class but literally as soon as I got into downward dog, I was slippin’ and slidin’ like no tomorrow. I had to lay down my sweat towel under my hands just so I could continue with class! While I love the firmness/density/thickness of this mat, the main purpose was for it to provide the non-slip/extra grip support that my previous mat lacked. Now I have to go and buy a special towel to pair with this mat and make it usable for my hot yoga class, which defeats the purpose. While I’m not going to return this mat, I am still feeling pretty misled and disappointed by this purchase. ... show more

I know the product details tell you the texture is different but I couldn’t get past it. I liked that it had a good grip though. Ended up returning the mat.

Best yoga mat I’ve ever owned. It hits all the check boxes. Super grippy top and bottom. Great for carpets. Very dense material doesn’t squish even when you put all your weight on it but still very comfortable. Be aware that the texture is different from just about any other mat you’ve probably tried. It doesn’t bother me at all because it provides a fantastic grip. If you’re on the fence, GET IT. You’ll be so happy you found it. Cons: 1. It smells like heavy duty plastic or maybe rubber. Its strong and i hope it dissipates quickly. 2. Pattern isn’t my favorite. Would love a solid color or position markers instead. 3. Will not travel well because of its thickness, density and materials. All the reasons why its so amazing. Probably fine to take to a studio but not on a trip. ... show more

It is a great mat overall. Grip and non-slip is perfect and the thickness is great for my knees. However, I would suggest airing it out for 3-4 days before use. I would love to give this yoga mat 5 stars, but it isn’t grippy enough for me. And comparing it to other mats of the same brand/price point it didn’t quite meet my expectations. That said, I still think it’s a high quality product with way more pros than cons. The color is beautiful, the thickness/durability is as described.
