    • Warm and washable, but younger kittens love to pee on it
This is very soft and warm, and holds up well in the washing machine (even with bleach). I know because I have washed mine a lot. I use it in my foster kitten room, and for some reason they love to pee on it. I think it is because of the texture which seems a little like you can dig in it. I have eventually given up using it for kittens under 10 weeks, and just bring it out for older crews or adult cats (who never pee on it). I purchased two of the small size blankets and here's some questions answered: Is it stiff? A little. It's a lot like what you would expect if you put a piece of craft (brown) paper inside of a pillowcase. It slightly holds its shape, but it's so thin that it's definitely still a blanket. What's it feel like? The sherpa side is very, very soft, almost like cotton balls. The other side is like a knockoff velvet, which is also very soft. Again, it's very thin and lightweight, but that's why it has the inner workings for warmth. How warm is it? I put my hand on it and within 10 seconds it was noticeably warmer. But note, my hand was warm. If you have a pet that doesn't naturally produce a heat, like an elderly pet or a reptile, this will likely only help very slightly. Waterproof? No. Also, DON'T put it in the dryer. Does it smell? Nope. And I'm sensitive to smells. But, wash it first. You don't know where it's truly been. Does it grip or slide around? It slides, likely because the fabric is so soft and the inner workings aren't sewn anywhere but on the edges, so the fabric slips against the inside layer. Don't put this anywhere you would consider a walkway. Is it for humans? If you're looking for something to stuff in your car for emergencies, this (large size) could work. It's got the same stuff in it as those silver emergency blankets. And because it's thin it doesn't take up much space. I wouldn't use it as a regular blanket though. ... show more

My dogs love this blanket. I bought 2, 1 for each dog. I have one that loves to sleep under the blanket and 1 that sleeps on top of of it. It is soft and easy to clean. They like it so much, I ordered 2 more. Both for me. One for home and one for my car as part of an emergency kit. I already tried it in the car on a cold night (30 degrees) and it kept me warm. The extra large measures 60x50. It is large enough to tuck around a person sitting in a car seat and it refolds into a small enough package where it won't take up alot of space in a vehicle. It's worth every penny. Also as for its original purpose, my dogs are older and they are kept warm by their own heat. This blanket is perfect for what it's intended for and then some. ... show more

    • Great for cats—and as extra warmth in the RV!
I originally got this blanket for my very-old-man cat before he passed. We didn't want to get anything electric, but he really needed help staying warm toward the end. It worked perfectly for this purpose, and he loved it until his last day. My two young cats both love it, too, and we use it to stay super cozy in the RV. So far this year, no need to pile on the blankets even on fairly cold nights—just a sheet and a thin comforter and this on top. This one's starting to get pretty ratty (the boys like to chew on it, lol) so I'm here to get a second. And a note regarding reviewers' complaints of metallic insides and weird crinkling noises: that's the mylar. That's what makes this blanket do what it does. The mylar inside acts as reflective insulation; your body heat bounces off the blanket and stays with you instead of escaping into the air. As far as I know, it's the same thing as those folding emergency blankets used in first aid / survival kits. So if you're reading these reviews that remark on the crinkly bit as a bad thing—you want that metallic liner, or the blanket is just a plain ol' blanket. ... show more

    • Not very durable

This blanket is definitely warm and soft. However not very durable. This blanket has 3 layers, fuzzy, middle reflective layer, and the backing. My issue is that the three layers are not sewn together anywhere but the edges, so it gets all out of whack fast. It needs some quilting type stitches throughout it to give it more durability. I got this blanket for my 3 labs. The center reflective material is similar to thin shiny bubble wrap and makes a fun crinkle noise. My dogs thought it was a chew toy and had a hole in it in less than 24 hrs. IF the blanket had better stitching throughout it the damage would have been minimized....but nope, once the hole was there and the shiny crinkle was exposed it was over. The mistake is that dog toys often have that fun crinkle crap in them and they are encouraged to chew and have fun with them. So they don't realize this blanket is not a toy...big toy. At this time the blanket is a jumbled pile of fluff that looks terrible, I will end up having to throw it away soon. Even though it definitely reflects the body heat back to the dogs and works in all the ways it is advertised....it's just not very good quality, nor designed by an experienced pet owner. ... show more
