  • Works great for some purposes.
I grow almost all of our vegetables and herbs in my basement under LED lighting. Some of the vegetables I grow need some kind of tie to hold them to supports. I have used twist ties, clips, Velcro strips, and now this tying machine. Of these, twist ties are my least favorite, but each of these have their merits depending on what you are supporting. Although I have never had to support my pepper plants, I do use ties of some sort to hold tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, and even heavy branches on kale and broken branches that have been "bandaged" and need support to heal. This plant tying machine works well and is useful for some purposes that don't require a stem or a branch to be held close to a stake. For example, my yellow squash plants lose lower leaves and eventually have a long stem with leaves and squash production at the top. The tops of these plants must be supported and held to a long stake to support them. This tying machine would not work for this purpose as the method of support must be something that will fit between leaves to hold the stem close to the supporting stake. I have found the Velcro strips work best for this purpose, and they can easily be removed as the plant grows. Although cucumbers pretty much support themselves with their supportive tendrils, this tying machine does help to loosely hole stems to whatever cages you use to support them. Generally, these ties don't need to be moved, so this machine works well. This machine also works well for vining tomatoes as the ties don't need to be moved. For bush type tomatoes, the support often needs to be moved to support developing tomatoes, so this machine isn't very helpful. I can see this machine being helpful for vining plants such as peas, beans, tomatoes, etc. where the supports do not have to be moved. Although I have not yet had to change the tape cartridge, so far, I have found this machine easy to use. A half click on the trigger releases the tape and the second click staples and cuts it. Whether or not this machine will be helpful for you depends on the plant you are supporting and what you want to hold it to. If you need a loose tie to the support, this machine will work well. If you need a tight hold to a stake between leaves, the Velcro strips may work better. I hope this review was helpful for you. ... show more

  • I Love this handy tool!
This gadget functions exactly as advertised, and its ease of use is remarkable. I primarily use it for my cucumbers, which I grow on a cattle panel. It secures them effectively without causing any damage. I can tie a 40-foot row in just minutes, saving me significant time and enabling me to grow more cucumbers vertically. Replacing the ribbon is simple, and the staples load effortlessly, much like a staple gun. The package includes an ample supply of ribbon and extra staples, as well as an additional cutting blade. Overall, it is an excellent purchase worth every penny. ... show more

  • Great Product but Takes Practice to Use
This has been a game changer for my trellis garden. The product comes with PLENTY of extra tape and staples for when your garden has exponential growth. It did take a good bit of practice when I first got it to understand how it worked and how to insert a new roll of tape. If you use it as much as I do, it will jam on occasion or the pin will fail to catch the tape but it's easy to fix and keep using. The handle is easy to hold onto and I have been able to use it everywhere but inside of my tomato cages simply because the tool itself is rather large in size. This is far superior to the plastic clips I have used for the past couple of years and is worth the money if you plan to use it frequently. The package did not come with helpful instructions so I had to spend a bit of time learning how to use it before putting it to work in my garden. I'd recommend this for anyone who is growing anything vertically rather than traditional in-ground gardening! ... show more

  • Really cool but can be a tad tricky.
Color: Orange
It comes with a ton of the tape plus one already installed. I practiced using it on my index finger. It had moments when it didn't want to make the initial grap of tape to make a wrap around before stapling. With just a little practice I was able to get it down pretty quick and was able to make wraps. This is so much simpler and faster than using twist ties like I always do. Not to mention cleanup. Finding as many of those ties as I can after growing season is over. This stuff can just be torn. It will dry rot in the sun and disintegrate over time. Now with all this said it takes a few more wraps than it did twist ties as this isn't as strong. That's OK because the tape and staples are so cheap and plentiful. And because I know someone will ask, no the wraps aren't too tight on the plants. ... show more

  • Stick to the twist ties, rope, string or whatever you used before.....
Color: Orange
I wanted to love this item. I have a huge garden with over 1000+ plants, 200 alone are tomatoes so I thought this would be perfect come trellising season. First, it was incredibly hard to get going. It took me an hour of playing with it before it would staple, pull the tape and cut the tape correctly. I was able to trellis 6 or so tomato plants before it fell apart...literally. It refuse to pull the tape at all, I tried changing positions, using a new roll of tape event tried manually hooking the tape to the catch but nothing worked. I wasted all that time trying to get it to work because I thought it would be so helpful. Lucky I was able to return before the window close. Additionally, the instructions are terrible, i had to watch a youtube video. The instructions are in correct with regard to the way to turn the staples. ... show more

  • Great Tool When it Works
Color: Orange
I really like this product except for the fact that it seems like I am working on it more than using it. When it works it is a wonderful tool. I can tie up my tomato plants in no time at all...it is very efficient. I used it this morning and was moving right along then all at once it quit working. The cutting blade had somehow raised up...I pushed that back down in place. Now I cannot get it to grasp the tape like it is supposed to. I was frustrated and put it aside to work on later. Great tool when it works. ... show more
