Recently there’s been an influx of Godzilla merchandise which for Godzilla fans is very exciting. This board game is an example of something that feels like it was made by fans of Godzilla that wanted to create a fun game with one of the best kaiju. The build quality on this game is great, the cardboard pieces aren’t flimsy in the slightest and are actually fairly thick which leads me to believe they’ll last a long time. Same goes for the plastic building pieces as well. The Kaiju are also well made and fell like they’ll withstand the way I play the game which is to smash the monsters at the things they’re destroying (it’s more fun that way). The actual gameplay is really fun, gaining energy to use attacks to fight other players. Each kaiju also has abilities that don’t cost energy which means that even players who don’t have any energy can participate in the action. It’s actually a pretty simple system to understand and within one game my sister understood the rules as well as I did without even reading the manual. As a convenient addition the back cover of the manual has the steps of every turn so you can very easily look to it if you forget what’s next. The only reason I removed a star is a minor annoyance that kept me from having a perfect time with this game. My game came with an extra energy tracking cube bag instead of the stand for Mothra. Luckily Mothra can be placed in such a way that she doesn’t fall, but it’s fairly sensitive, and when the Mothra piece is always on the move some time has to be dedicated to make sure she doesn’t fall over and push over other pieces. It’s a small inconvenience, but just be sure when you get your game that you have all the necessary parts, you never know if it’ll miss something important. Overall this game is amazing, and a fun game not just for fans of Godzilla, but I’d say even for people who just like board games. I wouldn’t mind if down the line they make expansion packs. Add even more monsters, like Anguilas, Rodan, or even something out of left field like Eborah. This game is crazy fun with details that will make a Godzilla fan’s heart soar. ... show more

The game itself is not that easy to learn based on the rule book you’re going to have to look some videos up to supplement but once you’re over that hurdle it’s an amazing time for Kaiju fans. You are literally fighting it out in the middle of a city with unique abilities that make you feel like the monster you’re using. You can throw vehicles around, monsters around and just have a blast as the kaiju get swung across the city hitting and damaging vehicles and buildings and each other WWE style. It’s GREAT!! I played this with my wife and 7 year old, he knows how to read and is pretty smart so he did just fine. My 4 year old was on his moms team and he had a blast. We re-enacted the moves and powers so that the kaiju actually did them while playing some Godzilla music in the background. Example one of the cards for Mothra was called sky drop I believe and she would take the kaiju in the air and drop them so that they fall up to 2 spaces away. So we physically took Mothra to grab Ghidora in the air and dropped him down. It was glorious! I wish they had expansions as there are only three kaiju ... show more

I enjoyed this game a lot. I thought it was fairly thematic. You don't directly take damage, you take damage to your deck and certain cards from your deck are removed from play and scored as Victory Points. You destroy parts of the city for energy to pay for card costs and as you destroy parts of the city there is an "end game" timer that advances. When the count down reaches it's final level, Victory Points are counted and that determines the winner. I dig this mechanic because it's a balance of destroying the city when you think you're ahead in victory points at the sacrifice of leaving your enemy's deck untouched, and limiting your opponents choices. It took me about 30 minutes to learn the rules, and we watched a video on it. After we stumbled through the first game, we felt we had a grasp on the rules and the next game went much better. It's not difficult to learn, but not a lot of games attack deck variety/sizes and only rely on Victory Points when you are tasked with brawling with giant monsters. The art on the cards looks great, the punch tokens all tend to blend together though. The bright colors on the box do not translate to the art inside. The sculpts of the kaiju are great as well. Probably too big for the board, or the board is too small. With just the two of us we crowded spaces, but it's a minor point at best. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to Godzilla fans. Potentially a family game, probably 10+ if i had to guess. And nobody is knocked out of the game. The fight goes on round for round and victory points determine the outcome so everyone gets to keep playing until the end. ... show more

    • Simplistic Gameplay
In terms of playability, the game is fast and easy to learn. Each character has their own deck, and as rounds progress, players lose cards in their deck and get more and more limited options in terms of what they can do. These cards are stolen and used as points by other players, with the holder of the most points at the end being the winner. All the characters have different play styles, but it can begin to feel repetitive by the late game. Definitely better with more people. This is a simple game that any Godzilla fan would enjoy.
