  • Nice little juicer!
I have used this juicer twice now. It is really easy to figure out; just be sure to read the manual carefully first and follow instructions. I recommend definitely making sure you have plenty of time before you juice so that you can clean all the parts and wipe down the base immediately after use. The motor seems decently powerful. Today I spent a good hour and 45 minutes from start to finish: prepping carrots, apples, and oranges for juicing, doing the actual juicing, and then cleaning up afterwards. You definitely need a good plastic bristle brush to clean the fine mesh strainer basket with the cutting surface at the bottom. Clean all the parts thoroughly, and then wipe down the inside and outside of the base. I’ll have to juice on Saturdays or evenings to have enough time to use the juicer, but I really like the results and am glad to have been lucky to come across this for free on vine. It’s at a very fair price point if I were paying for it, and a good value in my opinion. Hopefully this thing lasts a long time. My first run, I thought it was kind of messy to use, but I learned that larger pieces of fruit or vegetable are better. I only cut the carrots in half after cleaning and peeling, and the apples were peeled and quartered (and de-seeded of course). Oranges were halved after peeling. I ended up with a lot of pulp, but it is good edible food and I am freezing it and will be able to freeze dry it and powder it, so nothing will go to waste. The juicer actually does a really good job of extracting a lot of water out of the produce, so the pulp left behind is fairly dry(ish). You could use the pulp in muffins, breads, pancakes, or maybe even smoothies if you wanted to. My first run was dragon fruit, oranges, and apples. I am pleased for sure and highly recommend. ... show more

  • Good introductory machine for juicing; no extended warranty available
Item: Fullstar Juicer, budget priced centrifical with pulp retrieval Price: $29.99 at time of review My first juicer was an Omega masticating auger juicer at over $400. Heavy duty, it came with a ten year guarantee. I still have it, and it still works. However, since that purchase I’ve seen and have reviewed newer less costly juicers. But the Fullstar is certainly the most inexpensive centrifugal juicer I’ve seen. My immediate thought was that if it lasts only a year, it could still be well worth the investment. I lost 35 pounds during my juicing phase and should probably get back on schedule. My most expensive juicer requires almost as much cleaning maintenance as this juicer. And frankly, the cleaning is absolutely necessary, but worth the reward of juicing. With this machine, you can well afford to ‘get into this healthy addition’ to your current diet. Once you learn the basics about juicing, you’ll have enough information to make a decision on buying an additional and maybe more versatile juicer. And if so, I’d look on Amazon for the auger/masticating juicers. They’ll do more than just juice. You’ll be able to make peanut or almond butter. You can’t do that with a centrifugal design juicer like this one. I’d say strongly consider the Fullstar. It’s currently the most inexpensive unit when compared to near identical budget juicers of the same design and on Amazon. Expect this simple design to be a bit noisy as it’s a high rpm direct drive design. You may find it to be a bit messy as some juice can pass through adjoining parts of the juicer during process. For best results I’d say cut your fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces. And remember that a thorough cleaning of the screen and disc-blade is important. A quick rinsing and brushing of the fiber buildup right after use will make maintenance easier and probably give more useful life to the machine. Overall I have to say this is a good value, especially at its current price point. ... show more

  • Skeptical, but it mostly works!
This was my first juicer and my first try was fresh, trimmed and skinned mangoes and pineapple spears - that was a mistake. The soft fruits just whizzed right out the centrifuge into the pulp basket. I tried putting them back through again and eventually ended up with only a 32% yield of juice per original trimmed weight. I then whizzed everything leftover with a stick blender and juiced the pulp through a nut milk bag by hand since I needed their juice. Mangoes are difficult because they're slimy, and pineapple because they can be fibrous, I see now even juicing by hand. I cursed the juicier and set it aside slating it for a despondent, bad review. I felt sorry for it. But then I saw these 3lb bags of little 2.5-2.75" apples at the grocer and and I went for it. I stuffed the whole apples in there minus only the stems and I'll be damned - I got an astonishing 71% yield of juice in the first 1.5lbs of apples. On the second run the next day after peeling the top 3/4's of each apple (I suspected the skin of this type of apple made the juice bitter), the juice tasted much better and I got a 76% yield per ounce of fresh apple (post-peeling). No cleaning was necessary for juicing 1.5 lbs of whole. apples and I got about 19 ounces of juice. On day 3 I juiced another bag of 3lbs and made almost 2 quarts of fresh hard apple cider (took 5.5 days to reach 9% ABV using Lalvin EC-1118 champagne yeast). Ginger root: The Ultimate Test. It's the most fibrous of anything I can imagine you'd reasonably put though a juicer. Previously, I'd trim off the gnarly skin and knobs and grate it by hand if less than 4 ounces, or whiz it through the food processor and then steep (stove-top simmer) and strain it for its juice. I make a lot of lightly fermented/bubbly ginger ale - which is what the mango and pineapple was for, too. This was impressive, at first. But it quickly clogged up the centrifuge with it's fibers after about 1.5oz of juice (1.5oz of fresh ginger juice is A LOT!). But I brushed out the centrifuge screen a few times and got 5.4 oz of FRESH ginger juice out of 10oz of fresh ginger root - enough to bottle 1.75 gallons of ginger ale in pint bottles. While this is a small juicer, I'm pretty sure the problems I had with soft fruits would be even more inherent on centrifugal juicers twice their size. Cleanup was fairly easy considering the same number of parts as any other juicer, it just doesn't have the same output per cleaning of the centrifuge as the larger ones. I doubt any countertop juicer will juice 5lbs of apples or 3lbs of carrots without some intermediate cleaning. While originally skeptical of this, I was expecting more of any juicer. I was pleasantly surprised that this unit actually performed just as well as the larger units would, just with half the capacity before cleaning of the centrifuge tray. ... show more
