  • The String is Junk. Trap works great!
We use the yellow citrus soda for bait and that attracts the yellow jackets like nobody’s business!! We have seen it trap black flies and earwigs as well. I was worried that this would harm the honey bees but they are apparently much smarter than the hornets and wasps because they do not fall in and drown. Which is good news for the honey lovers. This item has a simple screw on and screw off bottom that is nearly half the unit. You may not think this is a big deal but you have to consider, however, that you ARE going to empty this at some point and if they are still live inside and flying around, you do not want to simply open the lid and have them pop out the top and sting you! With the opening being halfway down, you have a very convenient dome that you can just lift off and sit right back down quickly and it still traps the flying live little buggers in there while you empty and refill the bottom half. Now that being said, you are going to have to empty this out more than you think! It is REALLY THAT GOOD at trapping wasps and hornets. It is fall here and we are in the height of yellow jacket season; this is so good we are refilling, cleaning out and refilling these every couple of days. Now we will get to the not so great part: the string is a piece of junk!! Any kind of wind will cause the trap to sway and then the pineapple plastic top piece will saw and saw on the string, eventually cutting it in half and your item falls to the ground. We replaced our stings with a thicker tie cable style cord and that solved the problem immediately. So I highly recommend that you get a more durable jute or some thicker type of yarn or cord to replace the lousy string. If you do not have a thick yarn or cord, it will leave holes gaps in the top holes and the yellow jackets will crawl out the top and come back to find you with a vengeance. So whatever you replace that string with make sure it is the same thickness to plug up those holes at the top. If not for the cheap cord / string this thing would be a five star unit, but the crappy string makes it only a three star because you do have to buy something to modify it to make it safely usable. ... show more

  • Works despite its flaw.
First off, the fruit fly traps actually works. I had an infestation and I put out the two traps that came in the package. Within two days, the fruit flies were all gone! The amazing thing is the fact that the two traps eliminated the fruit flies with just the pineapple part of the trap. The large butterfly sticky pads were useless! Not only did the fruit flies ignore them, they were too heavy and kept causing the trap to fall over thus causing the bait to spill. (I had to make more bait which was easy to do.) The instructions were easy to follow, so it is not like I made a mistake in setting up the traps. Once I removed the pads, the pineapple bait part worked like a dream. Since the traps worked and the price was reasonable, I do recommend them. I would suggest that the user simply toss/set aside the buttefly pads. Good luck. ... show more

  • Great quality! Cute way to rid yourself of fruit flies too!
Really like how cute the pineapples are and a nice way to hide a nasty job. Comes with small bottle of attractive solution to get started but you can mix your own too, which is super simple and they even supplied a little recipe card of a few way to make your own. The sticky pads are great too and have a non sticky spot to hold when assembling, and there a good number of them in the box too which is nice, Assembly is super easy to do. Would definitely recommend and was a good value too! Love that it came with 2 of the pineapples also and was able to give one to my Grandmother to try at her home. If your on the fence don’t be and definitely try it out, you can’t go wrong for the price. ... show more

  • It really works!
It works! Haven't seen more than 1 wasp hanging around since they all jumped in muahahha! Just make sure you use something sticky and smelly like a fruity syrup or piece of meat or honey. I put sugar water at first but none of them were attracted to it. Then I switched to a fruity syrup and honey around the holes and presto! ... show more

  • Works Pretty Well
The media could not be loaded. We filled ours with expired Pepsi and simple syrup. The yellowjackets were definitely attracted to it. The only issue is that several of them did manage to find their way back out. They also could crawl out of the mixture and up the sides of the trap… so we learned we need to fill it much higher than we initially did. Also thinking it would help to add something that would either make their wings too sticky to fly (assumed the sugary beverages would have done that) and/or something that would kill them once they got inside. Overall, it’s decently effective, and I think can be improved upon with the right type and quantity of bait. ... show more
