  • Well Made easy to use unit!
We used this to chop about 30 gallons of apples last weekend. It worked great. The flywheel really helps with the ease of chopping. Cleanup was easy. It also holds a good number of apples at a time. Remember to at least cut the apples in half. There is some assembly required.

  • Great for wine grapes
I recently purchased this product to use for crushing wine grape clusters on the stem. The crusher worked perfectly. My first run of 60 lbs of grape clusters took only a couple minutes. Yes, the crushing gears are plastic but it's a hard plastic. I can't speak to how this product works on apples, but it makes short work of grapes. ... show more

  • I bought the model without the stand. Customer Service was excellent!
This will be a long review. This is our first year to make apple cider. We researched for an affordable apple crusher. Husband wanted this model because of the wheel like handle and the metal grinder part. Warning: the metal grinder comes with the model that has the stand. The ad is misleading. When we ordered the crusher WITHOUT the stand, we discovered the model came with nylon plastic grinder instead. So, be aware. Based on reviews, I resealed the box and was ready to return it. My husband, however, called the company to see if a replacement part could be ordered. Thank you, Richard for getting back to us. After explaining our disappointment with the model, he told us that it was possible to order the metal part and kindly shipped it to us at no cost. We received it just yesterday. For customer service, I would give them 5 stars. For the product itself: the hopper is stainless steel, but the grinder part is nylon plastic. All the other parts are decent quality. Use care when assembling. The directions given are visual drawings. You can find a how to video on YouTube. The screws are small, don’t over torque them. The hopper has some sharp edges. My husband smoothed them. He also built a stand for it. We took a chance and used the grinder with the plastic part. I was very nervous, because others in their reviews complained about the part breaking. So as a precaution, I cut our apples up in eighths and sometimes twelfths for large apples. We filled the hopper only half way and used care cranking the wheel. Although it took us a little longer for crushing, the crusher did work very well. It took us 3 hours to crush 85+ lbs of apples and pears for cider. Husband said it was very easy to clean with the spray hose. We have another 100+ lbs to go. Since we now have the replacement grinder part, husband is going to swap it out and save the plastic part as a back up. ... show more

  • Need a stand but works great
Style: Without Stand
Works great but you will need to build a stand for it. You will die of exhaustion if you try to set it on a bucket to grind your fruit. I fashioned a stand out of 2x4s that I can put my foot on to hold in place. We did about 300 lbs. of apples this fall and it worked without a hitch

  • Quality product !
I was very impressed with the quality. Initially thought it was toy like. Not so. Great materials were used in the design of this product. Will last a lifetime. Worth every penny !

  • a nice fruit grinder, good for cider
Style: Without Stand
I have used this several times to grind apples for cider. It appears to be well constructed & should tolerate moderate use. You can set this on top of a bucket when you grind apples but it helps to have an extra set of hands to hold it in place as you crank the handle. I bolted mine to a piece of plywood & removed the crank so I could power it with a drill. If you cut the apples into chunks they grind better. ... show more

  • This thing is a joke. A toy. Epic fail.
Style: Without Stand
Absolutely worthless for anything other than maybe a few grapes. Bought this based on the 5 stars here. Can't believe anyone actually used it for more than a novelty. Apples? Carrots? No way. First off assembly. The edges on the stainless steel are wicked sharp. There is a warning on the box to use gloves. Yeah right! The little itty bitty screws are hard enough to set in the first place. There is NO way any one could ever assemble this with gloves on. Had to take sandpaper to the edges just to make carrying it safe. Then there's the gearing and blade assembly. Plastic. No way it will hold up. Cheap cheap cheap. Got this to make cider as our orchard has many apples this year. I ran one 5 gallon pail of apples through this thing. Royal pain in the butt. Didn't matter whether they were cut up, with or without the cores. Almost impossible to grind it's way through. The thing is so light weight that it required a lot of downward force to hold it in place. It won't just sit on top of a press or bucket without a LOT of downward force or some sort of screw down mounting. The handle is incredibly poor design. Held in place by 1 very small soft metal screw that doesn't even go all the way through to hold it. So much force is needed in order to turn the handle and grind up the apples that after one bucket that screw is stripped and worthless. I will have to mod it by drilling it out and installing a longer screw all the way through. Although the rest of it is so worthless I doubt I'll bother. Also the size of the pieces that you do end up with are so big that they only give up / produce a fraction of the juice in the press that they should. We ended up using a stainless electric meat / sausage grinder for the rest of our apples and the quantity of cider out of the press is literally 3 times as much. And with so much stuff nowadays there's really no way to take it all apart and put it back into the box it came in so now I'm left with a 147 dollar paperweight. Just junk. Really annoying. Save your money and look elsewhere. ... show more
