I’ve used excellent (Forrest) combination and fine crosscut blades for decades, but never a dedicated ripping blade. This was my first rip blade and my first from Freud. The blade rips more easily than a combination blade and leaves a smooth, glue line ready surface which is noticeably a better edge than a combination blade. I love it, but boy this blade is loud. It produces a high pitched whine like nothing I’ve heard before with combination blades, but since I always wear ear protection anyway, this seems a good trade-off for excellent cut quality. The price is less than half what other premium blades cost, which is good for a specialty blade that’s only suitable for one purpose (rip cuts) and I suppose you’d use it only for that, then switch back to a combination or other blade for general purpose work. Recommended. Update 2/24/2025: I commented in my original review above that the blade was probably only suitable for rip cuts and you’d need to change it for crosscuts. Well . . . I was too lazy to keep doing that, so I’ve used it many times now for crosscuts and I can’t see any significant difference in cut quality between this blade and my usual combination blade. I expected bad crosscut quality, but didn’t get it. The blade is very sharp, so (at this point anyway) it produces no cross-cut splintering. ... show more

I bought this a few years ago and today was my first cut. I did a rip with my Diablo combo on some curly maple and it was slow cutting and got some burning. I switched out and this was amazing. The cut was so clean it was almost as good as the jointed edge. Virtually no saw marks and a tiny amount of chatter detected running my finger down the cut. Except some very minor darkening of the wood, visually it's difficult to distinguish between the rip and jointed edges (rip on left, jointed on right). When I cleaned off the first Diablo cut, it was like feathers coming off the blade (bottom of picture). The dust from the other cuts was light and fluffy with curls (top of picture ). I was impressed for this hard gummy wood. I also typed some ash which is pretty hard but dryer and got even better results (rip on left-see picture where you can read WE on the jointed piece on the right). Super nice cutting. This thing is a beast. This is from Freud's commercial line of blades. The blade is made in Italy ...a refreshing change of pace from all the Chinesium tools on the market. The carbide cutting tips are robust and big, measuring 1/16" in thickness/kerf width. The blade is rock steady under power and in use. Providing your table saw is in good tune, this blade cuts an accurate, edge-glue ready finish; smooth as if you ran it through a jointer. The blade is no more noisier than any other blade ...but then I wear hearing protection so this isn't a factor for me. Best of all, the price on these blades is surprisingly reasonable for the quality and performance you get. I'm sold on Freud. Highly recommended. ... show more

I got this blade for a couple of reasons. 1: FTG: this means that the teeth are perfectly flat at the top and leave a flat cut. I don't have a dado blade for my table saw and I wanted a blade that I could use to cut dados, rabbets and half lap joints on the table saw. I could sort of make these joints with my old ATB blade, but the bottom of the joint always had little ridges in it from the ATB blade. I just got finished cutting some half lap joints in red oak using this blade and a crosscut table I made for my table saw and the results are beautiful: a snug joint, a flat bottom to the cuts, and I didn't have to do any secondary processing to the joint. It's ready to glue up straight off the table saw. 2: Ripping. This is really what the saw blade is made for, and it really shines at it. I can joint one edge of a board at the jointer, then rip it to final width on the table saw with this blade, then glue up the two faces that I cut on the table saw with NO GAPS whatsoever. Honestly if I run boards over my jointer fast it leaves a little bit of ribbing on the boards, so most of the time the surface that I cut with this blade is better and more "glue ready" than the surface I jointed! 3: Cross-cutting!? This is not really one of the reasons I bought this blade, but I figured I would mention it. When I was calibrating my crosscut sled (I use the 5 cut method) I had to cross-cut plywood. The surface left on the plywood wasn't quite as smooth as if I had used my 80 tooth crosscutting blade, but it was darn close! Unless I know the cut I'm making will be a show surface, I probably won't bother changing the blade for cross-cutting hardwood or plywood. As an added bonus, the blade does run pretty quiet, and even though my table saw is only 1 3/4 HP, it runs this full width saw blade with no problems at all. I'm really thrilled with this blade for this price, I would highly recommend it. ... show more

This is an excellent blade for the money! The flat top tooth design and 1/8" kerf means you can use it for a poor man's dado blade, as well as effectively ripping through hard and soft woods alike. I recently used it with my table saw to rip 3 1/2" deep through walnut lumber, chewed through it with no issues and the cut surface really is almost finish grade, definitely remarkable for a 24T blade. I've used it for the occasional cross cut as well when I don't have the time or the need to change out blades, and with most woods, it does a pretty decent job, however with plywood I have experienced an unacceptable amount of tearout in some applications crosscutting, but again, that is not what this blade is intended for. But in a pinch this blade is more than up to the task of rough crosscutting. Obviously if you wanted a combination blade, the 50T Freud would be a much better choice, but for speedy ripping, this blade is the bee's knees! ... show more

I’ve previously used the more basic Diablo D1024X ripping blade, and was somewhat underwhelmed by its performance. This LM72R010 definitely performs better and is a full kerf blade, which prevents me from having to adjust the ruler on my saw fence when switching between this and other full kerf blades, like the LU84R011 that I use for general use. It also has beefy carbides suitable for resharpening. This blade’s disk runout is about 0.04 mm. After adjusting my 3hp sawstop to be running true in all parameters to 0.01 to 0.02mm, the resulting kerf from this blade is quite adequate for glue ups of dissimilar wood colors that hide the glue line, but if you are gluing two light colored woods like maple together, I’ve found the need to re-joint and/or plane the glue faces to minimize the glue line. If you intend to do precision woodworking like end grain cutting boards, plan to touch up the sawn surface after ripping, but if you are doing projects that use of a tape measures instead of calipers, you’ll probably be quite happy with this blade. Cutting 2-1/2 inch thick maple on my 3 hp saw, I am able to keep it moving plenty fast to prevent any burning and not big down the saw. ... show more

Most recent purchase Sep 2020: Two years after the first purchase, I bought a second LM72R010 to have on hand when I send the first one out to be sharpened. Not that it needs it. After two years of near-daily use, it still performs as new. I've cleaned it with Sprayway Pitch & Gum Remover, but nothing more. Shortly after the earlier review, I purchased a 3hp cabinet saw. I use the blade for ripping, and general joinery (because of the FTG). I recently cut a bunch of mitered picture frame parts, and forgot to change the blade to an 80T Amana. Woops. Didn't matter though, because the crosscuts were perfect. The listing photo confused me at first, because both my blades have anti-kickback shoulders that are different than the photo. The manufacturer site has the same photo as the listing, so I guess it's a fairly recent change, and sellers still have the older design in stock. I've attached a photo of my new blade - which is the same as my old one. First purchase Sep 2018: The first job for this blade (LM72R010) was to rip 120 bf of 8/4 hard maple, for a workbench build. The table saw was a lightweight Dewalt jobsite model (7490X), with a LOT of vibration caused by thin aluminum construction, and universal motor attached directly to the arbor. Given this, I expected good-not-great performance from any blade, even one as nice, and new, as this one. Well heck... I hardly had to push the 8/4 maple through the blade. It just gobbled it up. No burning. The cut edge was glue-ready, completely clean and smooth, without a blade mark anywhere. One amazing blade... ... show more

I thought about knocking a star off for this, but shipping/packaging is not really reflective of the product. It is worth noting though. The blade was shipped in the Freud retail package intended for rack display which was placed in a lightweight plastic bubble envelope. Every tooth had slightly chewed through the Freud card stock cardboard. Fortunately none of the teeth were chipped and the blade is fine. What can you really say about a sawblade ?? It is a 10" diameter 1/8" wide kerf, flat top grind blade, if you need this configuration this is a very economical blade compared to the Forrest #1 grind 40 tooth blade. I bought this blade as a backup to my 40 tooth Forrest blade. Comparing the cut of this 24 tooth blade vs the 40 tooth Forrest blade on a rip cut there is a little bit of difference in the smoothness of the cut but this blade it is not bad at all and if price is considered into the mix I would say this blade punches above its price point. Comparing an inexpensive 24 tooth blade to an expensive 40 tooth blade on a cross cut is not really fair, and it falls behind here. I make a lot of non-through cuts that require a flat bottom and this blade makes a consistent flat bottom cut. I am satisfied with this blade, while it is not the excellent jack of all trades as the Forrest 40 tooth #1 grind blade is it is an excellent ripping blade and being able to cut flat bottom grooves is important to me. ... show more
