  • The Dells 'Freedom Means'
FREEDOM MEANS was a GREAT Cadet LP. This CD is exact (front/back LP photos) with a BONUS of quality chronology insert! CD sounds exact to original LP. The Dells Anthology CD is also superb!

  • I am so glad that this album was released on CD
I am so glad that this album was released on CD. I though this was one of the Dells greatest Albums released. It showcased all of the dells singing the lead. Something that few groups can do today.

  • Showcase for Charles Stepney
And that is the real reason I bought the vinyl album in 1971. The Dells were not one of my favorite soul groups of the 1970's. But Charles Stepney was one of my favorite producers/arrangers/conductors of that decade, along with Thom Bell, Van McCoy and Burt Bacharach. Charles Stepney is best known for his work with Earth Wind and Fire. Mr. Stepney also did some fine sessions with Ramsey Lewis, Minnie Riperton, Terry Callier and Rotary Connection. Like Minnie Riperton and Van McCoy, his contributions to our musical enjoyment was only limited by his early death. The Dells do an adequate job interpreting several Terry Callier original songs, a Bacharach/David song, a Bread song, the theme from "Love Story" and a pop song. Included is a sixteen page booklet with details about the conceptualization of the album's theme and tracks. ... show more

  • My One and Only Dells Studio Album
At the tender age of 10, I found myself captivated by "Stay in My Corner" and the B-side, "Please Don't Change Me Now". (Those records still sound great today). Singles like "There Is" and "Love is Blue" made a Greatest Hits collection an essential. But in 1971, I heard "The Love Stays on My Mind" on the old KDIA-AM station in the San Francisco Bay Area. I cannot remember if I bought "Freedom Means" at my neighborhood record store (jeez.... I sound ancient) or through a Record Club. But "Freedom Means" became my first and only Dells studio album. In a time when "What's Going On" was transformative, socially conscientious music dominated. "Freedom Means" also felt like a concept album which I also loved. Surprise, surprise........it was also my college years. ... show more

  • The Dells Finest Work with Charles Stepney to boot. Terry Callier songs too.
Charles Stepney (Earth Wind Fire, Minnie Riperton, Emotions, Deniece Williams) best work with the DElls. A classic I have waited DECADES to get on CD. All things come to those who hope.
