  • Inspiring holiday book.
Great book to teach children about giving! I plan on having a bag of nice used toys and showing them to my students. Reading them this book and asking them to consider donating an old toy of their own to Village of Hope.

  • A great Christmas message!
The story gently but clearly emphasizes the truth he giving spirit of Christmas. I am Catholic, but some parents may be glad to hear there is no religious message. Just a very sweet and generous moral.

  • Good message about giving
We love the Franklin books. I got this for my son, 6 years old and with little grasp on compassion, caring, giving, etc. This book gives what I feel is an easy to understand lesson about giving to others and why you might do so. Not giving away just your old junk that's more like trash, but putting real thought into a gift for another person. Giving to others to feel good in yourself, but also because some people have less than you. There are no religious themes in this story, which is great. I don't know that anything in this story may have penetrated into my kid, but it felt better to share the idea through this story than most of what I could come up with on my own. I only took away a star because Franklin decides that his most prizes possession is what he should gift. While selfless, I don't think kids should feel they need to give up their favorite things for others. ... show more

  • Beautiful pictures
Very nice story--engaging with beautiful pictures. Encourages giving and generosity. My grandchildren liked that it was "so long" and that they unwrapped presents in the story.
