We have a fish tank with fish that require live bait fish to eat. Instead of buying fish or using a sane net to catch minnows in the creek by our house, we decided to give this trap a try. Especially since it will be getting cold soon and we don't want to have to wade in cold water for minnows. The first time we left it in the creek overnight with a slice of turkey lunch meat and a stale hot dog bun. The next day there were well over 30 minnows in the trap! I was looking for a snake trap, and was surprised to see this product come up when I did a word search for "snake trap." I followed the directions, putting two eggs inside, and placing the minnow trap near the spot in my basement where I saw the snake. There was no immediate result, but just when I was getting discouraged I checked the trap and found the snake inside, wrapped around the eggs, just as described by others. It took about two weeks for it to work, but I have a very happy wife now. My only negative comment is that the clip on the side, used to keep the trap closed, is a bit stiff and hard to open. ... show more

I bought these to catch snakes on our property and they are working great. We just put an egg in the cage outside of our chicken coop and with in a day caught our first snake. Since then we've caught 12 snakes! Glad to have them caught in this trap and not in my chicken coop!

This product is misrepresented. It is NOT galvanized and will NOT last. Although mine was used in a fresh water reservoir, it was RUSTED OUT in 2 weeks (see attached picture.) That's right, a golf ball size hole where the wire mesh disintegrated...IN TWO WEEKS! If I tried to create a worse product, I don't know what it would take. In addition to the fatal rust problem, the snap is difficult to operate and the two sides do not close securely. This is a piece of garbage that cannot possibly meet Amazon's usual standards for quality. ... show more

Very sturdy. The clip to hold it together is easy to use. I like that the inner entrance holes have rings that cover the jagged edges when other minnow traps do not. I take this with me on every fishing trip, throw in a chicken wing, and have all the free bait I need.

We've been having snake problems with our chickens, a black snake ate one of our babies last week so I bought 2 of these, they were out less than 48 hours before the henhouse and we all ready caught one. One of my tasks came without a clip though.
