  • Sold expired soil not good.
So I purchased this in Sept. Not realizing at the time both bags were sold beyond their expiration date as shown in the pic. Due to a close family member passing from COVID I was unable to use it at the time. Fast forward to todays date and with seeds germinating I realize I was sold old dirt. Guess I have to visit a nursery to get something else from someone else. 12/13 Update: Well no one else close to where I'm at has anything close. So after careful inspection beyond a few dry spots I gave it a good mix and added some good clean water to add a bit and potted up. So time will tell how it performs. Will update the rating after I see results. 12/15 Update : A rep from FoxFarms reached out to me and to put a few issues to bed. While it's not listed on their website and info on the web from trusted resources seems to be incorrect, the date stamp on the bag is not a expiration date but a "Born On" date and the bags are generally good for 2 years from that date. That being said the rep said and I quote "I would also like to note that we strongly encourage customers to purchase our products from independent garden centers and hydro stores, who are our authorized retailers. We do not sell to Amazon nor do we ship our products from our facility to fulfill Amazon orders. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee products that have been purchased from Amazon, eBay, or other online sellers since they are a large marketplace for third party sellers and we do not know how they are storing, handling or advertising our products." So take this with a grain of salt, learned a few things and have a direction to go. Update on the soil, things are progressing well and after the initial rehydration working as expected. Going to rate it a 4 out of 5 for a final rating due to lack of information on shelf life of their products being readily available. ... show more

  • Too hot, gotdamn
I am a new grower and read reviews saying this soil was fine for all growing periods, but I believe it is far too hot and nutrient rich for my plants on its own. Some other growers said they always mix it with something inert or flush it copiously before using but why is that not made clear, and how was I supposed to know? Otherwise seems like good, rich soil. I am using coco coir now instead and having much more success. ... show more

  • Best soil on the market
I have used many brands. I have been using this stuff for the last year. I add a bit of peat moss and some extra pearlite. Mostly just my preference. But the living soil and nutrients are perfect. You won't have to amend for like the first 8-10 weeks from my experience and the ph holds extremely well. Best bang for the buck and always a great produce. Also I have never had issues with and kinds of bugs from these guys. It is kept and stored well evidently ... show more

  • Love this soil
I love this soil, the bag is generous and I get so much out of it. I amend it with perlite, vermiculite and bark. It is absolutely perfect for my houseplants. Keeps them lush and healthy, particularly my aroids. I've used other soils (including the excellent Espoma) and frankly this is one of the best out there. ... show more

  • A must buy
This is great soil. I lived in Humboldt County to go to college at HSU and this soil is totally necessary. I use nothing but, Fox Farm to grow. I highly recommend.
