This FodManTakin compact router is a very complete set and includes an impressive array of router bits for various purposes, several of the edgers with bearing rollers already attached. It also includes the 2 wrenches required to change router bits and a couple of router guides, all unfortunately made of cheap stamped metal, plastic, and the roller guide made from pot metal. The tool has a rotary speed adjustment and the manufacturer's top speed rating is 30,000 rpms, plenty for any routing task, and its quarter-inch collet will fit my standard router bits. This little router has one really major problem: the depth adjustment wheel incorporated into the plastic case (photo) is a plastic gear whose teeth simply cannot mesh with the shallow-etched hashmarks on the metal body of the tool itself (photo). It can't be adjusted or aligned to meet up, and my best attempts to get it working left material from the plastic wheel on the sharp-edged hashmarks (photo). All depth adjustments to this router will have to be done with a caliper, and the very slight adjustments to depth often required when routing won't be possible. Changing bits with the two stamped-metal wrenches (photo) requires removing the plastic outer sleeve, but that's not really difficult since only one thumb-tightened screw secures the base/hand-hold to the tool. (I wonder about the manufacturer's warning to hold only the plastic parts of the router, whether it's caution about overheating or electrical worries, neither of which is very reassuring.) I tried out this router cutting a shallow vee notch into OSB at top speed, and it performed well (video). The bit provided with the set was adequately sharp and easily up the task, and the others appear to be of fairly good quality. I could see this router being most useful when dedicated to a single task in a shop, where the bit is set at a single depth and the depth locked in until worn out, like as a laminate trimmer. An adequate motor and quite a nice set of bits, but competitors in the same price range include far better depth adjusters.

The media could not be loaded. The first thing I observed was the depth guide system did not slide up and down the barrel of the router no matter how much I loosened or tightened the clamp system. The black gear was not biting into the mating surface of the aluminum housing. Closer look reviled the aluminum teeth were missing because they had been machined away. This led to inspecting the clear plastic elevation systems clamping ability. The clamp is too large for the outside of the router body that had been over machined. The black gear was damaged from improper mating. The rack and pinion parts are not the same pitch so they will never work. Add that to the machined undersized rack teeth and it is unsafe to operate. Also, the threaded hole for mounting the steel guide fence was drilled oversize and there were no threads for the thumb screw to lock everything down. Also the air cooling vents for the motor still had flashing on them blocking air flow. I contacted Amazon for a return authorization and with no hassle, was shipped a replacement that came the very next day...WOW that was fast!! I'm impressed. NOW the replacement came with the same problems. I've got one to send back and as a Amazon Vine member, one that I'm stuck with. I would like to return it also and forget the whole thing. This device is $15 higher priced than others on the market that have no issues. Please be aware of your need to modify the clamping fixture if you want to operate this safely. I have not been able to test the first or the second tool because of this. I give it no stars if possible.

I have a few heavy duty routers in my shop. Some of them are too bulky to do light in-place work so this is a welcome addition. My primary reason for getting this one was to use it to replace the 300 watt spindle on my CNC machine. This 800 watt replacement is a game changer. I can push the machine with greater depths of cut as well and faster speeds. It's a big improvement over my stock spindle.

The router works fine, has plenty of power, and the noise is relatively okay, the router bits collection is pretty good, you would've paid for this a lot to buy is as a separate set, the base is plastic, they market it as transparent which is true, but still, it's a piece of plastic and it performs as plastic, the depth guide is a joke, does not work at all, you tighten it enough and you can't move the sleeve, a little less tight it just does not hold, all the parts have an intense chemical odor which does not go away (so far) and gets on your hands, instructions is a joke as well, if you have never owned a router there is no way you will understand what you have to do, so overall I am not too happy with this product, it's a cheap alternative, but hey, a real cheap one.

The router is not that great but it does function. The materials are relatively low quality and function but not the best. I don't have long term confidence in this and will buy a better model soon. I am going to relegate this to oddball tasks.
