This desk converter is not as heavy as I thought. It was quick to install the laptop holder. Also easy to hook up the adapter of the motor. I must say that the construction is quite sturdy. This desk is generally ok. The only assembly is putting in the lower keyboard drawer. It's solid and holds up my twin monitors without issues. It might be the table I have it on, but the left side of the keyboard tray does not sit completely flat on the left side. When the desk is raised all the way, it can be slightly wobbly. The motor used to raise and lower the desk is quiet but also very slow. I am a 6'2" man so if I stand up it needs to be raised to the max level, and lowered all the way if I sit down. Considering you have to hold the buttons to adjust the height, I think the unit should have a min/max button in addition to the up/down arrows, so you could press either one and have it move automatically for you. This would have been very handy if you need to refill a drink, use the bathroom, etc. My desk also had 2 loose screws in the box and 3 small chips of the laminated covering from the underside of the desk. I have no idea where either of these things specifically came from, but since the desk otherwise looks and operates ok I am not worried about it.

Pardon the view of my office; to say it's cluttered would be putting it politely. It's said that 'Sitting is the new smoking' - we spend so much time sitting at our desks that it's bad for our health. Even standing part of the time is better in numerous ways; it straightens out your back and muscles and gets your circulation flowing better in different ways. I spend a lot of time at my computer desk and realized that this was not good for me. The proliferation of 'sit to stand' desks and workstations reinforces to me that this is getting to be pretty accepted wisdom. When I saw this I thought it would be a good idea; since I have two monitors I chose the larger size and it works out well for me. There is very little to do to set up this Electric Desk Converter. It is basically fully assembled with the exception of putting the keyboard shelf on (two thumb screws to attach it) and plugging the power supply and cord onto the motor / switch assembly. You will not find multiple diagrams showing which panel screws to which bracket using which screws. This is a really strong point as assembling things for me is not a way I enjoy spending my time. I spent more time clearing sufficient space on my desk than I did putting it 'together' with the two small things that need to be done. It's a breeze. This unit is fairly heavy so your desk should have a sturdy top. I cleared a space in advance which would let me put the desktop converter where it needed to go. You alsoo need to make sure your cables for the monitors, keyboard etc. are long enough to allow full movement of the desktop to its upper limits without pulling on the cord or stressing the connector plug-ins. This Electric Desk Converter is very sturdy. I have a 32" monitor mounted horizontally and a 23" mounted vertically, which is they way I always use them, and they both fit. The motor which raises and lowers the platform seems to be up to the task. I like the fact that when it reaches the top limit of travel that it shuts itself off; it doesn't just keep running and straining til the button is released - it gets to the top and stops. To me this is a small but significant indication of thoughtful attention to quality. My only slight gripe is that there should be a way to press a button one time and have the desktop converter go all the way up on its own without holding the button, since the desktop will stop itself at the limit already when you are holding the button down. Maybe it could travel most of the way down on one button press (MOST of the way, so you can be sure nothing has gotten beneath it) and then be lowered the last few inches with a manual button press. The 'desktop converter' surface seems to be the typical black laminated finish which is reasonably durable but in my experience can become stained with things like coffee mug rings etc. so I'd be careful of that. Perhaps a good spraying every so often with a furniture polish like Pledge could minimize the chances of that. The finish is very smooth as it is; rubber feet on the keyboard and monitor(s) hold them in place very nicely while the mouse just skates on the surface, if you choose to not use a mouse pad. I would use one however because prolonged mousing without one might wear the finish noticeably. I make a point to raise up the desktop every so often so I can work standing up for even ten minutes or so. (This is why a one-touch up-button would be so appreciated.) I believe this item is sturdy and durable enough to stand up to a good lifetime of use and I like knowing I'm not just sitting for hours on end at my desk.

Ordered this because my current desk is not old and didn't want to replace the entire desk. Saw this as a lower cost solution to satisfy my need to stand for part of my work day. Initial item I received had a clamp fall off from underneath the main platform the first time I raised the platform. I actually tried to reattach the clamp since I found the screw that was holding the clamp fell out, but the screw would not tighten which seems to be the reason the clamp fell off in the first place. These were parts that were factory assembled. There is almost no assembly needed by the consumer for this product. I contacted the seller at the number listed in the manual and they graciously agreed to ship me a replacement. Well the replacement arrived BROKEN. This time the actual platform was cracked and the particle board had a large chunk broken off. Unfortunately I never got to use this item and had to return for a refund.
