This blade is thick and hair splitting sharp right out of the box. The blade shank goes through the nice oval shaped cherry handle. There is a hint of some finish on the handle. I’m guessing linseed oil. I carved almost half a spoon and it would still shave. It’s also USA made. Highly recommended!
