    • I like this flashlight
I like this flashlight. It is a serious, functional, and well-designed light. It has only two minor "cons" which I'll get to below. On the "pro" side, it is probably the best small flashlight I've ever owned. It is well programmed. It is easy to turn on and get to the precise brightness I want -- from battery-saving dim to movie set bright -- without getting tangled in blinking and flashing modes. I can't prove the numbers, but I would guess the manufacture's claims of brightness are valid. It can be *VERY* bright. It has strobe and blink modes, but they are programmed separately so they don't get in the way. I won't go into all the "accessory modes" (blinking, flashing, whatever) since I don't use most of them, but I'll admit some are rather creative. For example, there is a patterned flashing mode like a bicycle light to carry when you are walking next to an unlit road at night. And there is a slow-flash "beacon" mode that could be useful to someone stranded on the water or in the wilds at night. There is even a mode that blinks-out the battery voltage so you know when to recharge. Depending on how much brightness you use, a charge on the three Lithium batteries can last for a very long time. The aspect ratio of the body of this light is different from most flashlights -- it is short and fat. It fits well in my hand -- and I'm not a big person -- with the single control button comfortably under my thumb. The button action is crisp and well-defined. The reflector does not have variable focus, but with the brightness this light has, I don't consider that to be a problem. Which brings me to the two "cons": first, and most important for the way I often use this light, there is no place to attach a wrist lanyard. Without a lanyard, I fear dropping the thing overboard. I have temporarily rigged something with zip-ties and some cord, but it's a kludge. When I have time, I will try to do better with some macrame wrapped tightly around the body of the light. But I shouldn't have to do those things for a light of this quality and price. There should be a solid way to attach a wrist lanyard. The second thing that bothers me is the little rubber plug that covers the charging port. My experience is that these plugs, which occur on many devices, don't hold up well. They soon fatigue and break off. When that happens the device is no longer waterproof. So I guess I just have to be careful with it. And one other note: This light can be used to light an indoor space, like a room. It stands easily on its back-end pointing up and reflecting off the ceiling for nice indirect lighting. The manufacture recommends using a diffuser to scatter the light around the room, and apparently they sell one for the purpose. Amazon doesn't sell them and I haven't gone searching elsewhere for one, but I have made a perfectly good diffuser from a piece of baker's parchment (I might also try tracing paper) rolled into a long cone and placed on top of the upward-pointing light. The addition of the tiny lights that stay on when the flashlight is off are great. I have a couple older sofirn flashlights and finding the on/off switch in the dark can be troublesome, but with this new flashlight...no problem. And what I really appreciate--the batteries are rated at 3000 mAH. The capacity of most of the batteries advertised on Amazon come nowhere close to what the advertiser promises (otherwise called a rip-off). Here are the three new sofirn batteries that came with the flashlight and a fourth of the same type that I have been using for 2 years. I just tested all 4 together. The picture shows the batteries in the tester with the test results. You can see all 4 batteries are well above the promised 3000 mAH: 3345, 3430, 3359, and 3223. I'm happy! ... show more

This is a cool flashlight. It is relatively compact for packing three 18650 batteries and four LED emitters. The kit comes with three of Sofirn's 3000mAh batteries, a USB charger, spare O-rings, and an instruction booklet. I've had at least three other lights that use these batteries and they seem reliable. The four emitters create a clover-like spot with generous spill. It is reasonably floody but still has reach. In the pictures, you can see the emitters on their lowest setting. The lowest setting is gentle enough to look at with the naked eye and provides a nice "moonlight". You can also see the highest setting at various orientations on a fairly clear night. The next night was foggy so I was able to get a really nice picture of the beam pattern shining up and out at an angle. The electronic switch glows green with two small emitters. This makes the light easier to find in the dark. The user interface from the box allows for smooth ramping from low to high and back again. There is a turbo mode that can be accessed with a double-click but honestly, the regular high mode is already extremely bright. Overall, this light can easily offer whatever you need, from mild to wild, and can really last for extended outings with a little attention to power economy. ... show more

I must say this: for years I had TrueNite, 1150 lumens model that finally quite (after 8+ years - the On/Off button stopped working consistently). This unit DELIVERS!! My only complain is it has to many options, and UI is bit overwhelming, at least at first with gazillion options, clicks and holds. But... I'm biker, along my other lights this one is to serve as a 'high beam'.. a m a z y i n g power!! I am using like 3-4 bacon/strobe option for day run, and as mentioned high beam, and TURBO HIGH BEAN when running night so when nothing coming my way I turn it on to beware of animals along the road. .. so you don't need to learn every combination.. Also it offers lots of fun stuff like candle light and thunder lights effect (gimmick to me, but :) ). Good solid flash light! Strongly recommend! I purchased it with 4 years coverage from Asurion as light is not cheap, but not super pricey either. ... show more

    • Intensity drops off after five seconds
I liked this flash light very much at the beginning. Four months after using it. I noticed the light intensity drops off quickly from max emission. Recently, it becomes unbearable that it dims no more than five seconds. Not sure what's wrong. BTW, I made sure that barrettes are freshly charged. Unfortunately. I can't return it for a refund or replacement. ... show more
