  • Yes it is Worth the Money!
Size: Medium Color: Dark Olive
I saw this Fjallraven Anorak No. 8 in a Youtube video and was impressed with its overall design. After doing some background research on the company, and watching several other videos of various people using it I decided to purchase one even though it was more expensive than I would usually pay. I'm so glad that I did. It is just right for how I am using it. First of all the medium size fit me very well, with enough room to have a base layer and mid-layer underneath when needed. I am 5' 9" and weigh a muscular 145 lbs. Within the first few hours of wearing it I was already impressed with how comfortable it was to wear while trekking or working around the camp. The material is very quiet and sturdy without being heavy. It is only one layer, so in very cold environments you will need base and a mid-layer. By itself I imagine I can use it for 3 seasons here in southern California. With a base layer and mid-layer it should keep me warm in our winters here or even when I am up in Mammoth. As a windbreaker it can't be beat. With the collar up it is plenty warm with just a long sleeve t-shirt in cold mornings and evenings when I am trekking or working around the camp. I also enjoy it for night-time walks along the beach when the winds are whipping in from the Pacific. The fabric should hold up well for years. If I get too warm I can either unbutton the high neck collar or open the side zippers (they open easily, great quality). I can also access inside pockets in my mid-layer or trousers through the side zippers. There are two huge pockets on the front of the anorak. The hood has a wire in it which allows you to shape the hood anyway you like it. You can cinch it up around the waist and at the bottom hem. Plus their is a strap you can run through your legs to keep it from moving up your torso. The sleeves have two position snaps. This allows you to wear your gloves over the sleeves or up the sleeve. Speaking of sleeves, they are nice and long and because of the cut of the anorak they do not ride up when I am climbing or chopping wood. I will update this review after a few more months of use. I imagine I will be able to use this anorak even through most of the summer for evening trekking or in the higher mountains. My next purchase is going to be a pair of the Fjallraven pants with the reinforced seat and knees. ... show more

Sweet jacket. Worn it for about a month now. Bought it as a coat to end all coats. Good against the wind. You gotta wax it or you'll get kinda wet. Nice deep kangaroo pocket. So far so good. Fits like a medium. I'm 5'8" ish at 134lbs. You should wear something thick underneath it any way if you wanna stay warm like a hoodie. Quality outside wear! ... show more

  • Quality Clothing for Outdoor Wear and Comfort
Size: Large Color: Dark Olive
As with all of the Fjallraven products I own, this too is well made, durable and comfortable to wear in extreme outdoor weather. Fjallraven is my goto provider for virtually all of my outdoor wear, pants, jackets, & coats.

  • Great Bush Anorak and Esp. Great as Dry Arctic Shell.
I was able to pick up one of these in the Tarmac/Duff color combo, but had to go with a Large to get the savings. It's a little big for me at 5'8" 170 pounds, but that's fine as it leave plenty of room for air to circulate in warmer weather and for layering in the coldest of climes. The fabric asks you to choose between waxing it or leaving it as is...I waxed mine because it adds to water-repellency, especially when crashing brush and constantly rubbing against wet plant life. Not my choice to wait out an 8 hour exposed down pour, but then that's not what this is designed for. Waxed, it is a genuine wind blocker with a hood that can be worn in a number of configurations to best suit: from full-on tortoise, to protecting more neck and face and letting your head breathe. The pockets are what sold me. I take a lot of outdoor wildlife and landscape photos, which often requires patience and searching for the right vantage point. I can carry my camera, three lenses, the ten essentials, map, compass, keys, wallet, phone, etc. without a backpack or sling. I use waterproof fold-top bags inside the pockets for sensitive gear and to know what is stored where. This thing will take a beating against scree, granite, muskeg, Bear Grass, thorny hedgerow, and whatever busting off trail throws at you. It'll save your skin. Like an older style cagoule, the larger size allows me to squat on bent knees and be covered from exposure ot harsher elements and bugs. It holds in your body heat well and if you use beathable layering with merino wool beneath, you can stay very warm. Worn with my Stieger mukluks and wind pants over Filson Wool, I'm toasty warm in -20 blowing snow (dry). Not a rainforest layer...but then, Scandanavian climates are NOT the Hoh or Amazon. This anorak has held up for over ten years and barely looks used....and believe me, I've thrashed it several times. You don't buy an anorak-style layer if you plan on putting it on and taking it off constantly. I can, however, pull my arms into my torso from the sleeves and add or subtract underlayers without taking this off...which I find to be far more useful when you are out for longer periods. ... show more

  • Tight in the shoulders
This is a nice anorak that I wanted to work out. However, at 6’3” 180 lbs with a 40” chest, 36” waist and fairly broad shoulders, it was almost impossible to get my arms into the sleeve holes on a Medium, which are too close together, in my opinion. There’s plenty of room in the torso on a Medium but the shoulder width is too narrow. Wearing a layer (I used a sweatshirt) under the anorak makes putting the anorak on and taking it off very problematic. The anorak is basically a water-resistant shell, with no insulation. So wearing layers is essential for cold weather use. The anorak is Fjallraven-rugged and looks good. But it doesn’t work for me. Also, zipping the side zippers can be problematic if you have any hand or arm mobility issues. ... show more
