    • Feels Good on My Hands When Cutting Fabric (unlike most scissors)

I wanted a comfortable pair of scissors to use to cut fabric with as my other fabric scissors hurt my hands when I have a lot to cut. I like how the Fiskars feel in my hands when I cut fabric. For most things these work well cutting, however it's a bit trickier to cut around curved pieces accurately, so I will switch to a different pair of scissors for cutting the curves when I need to cut more precisely. I have small hands and other scissors just do not have a comfortable thumb hole, which causes pressure on my thumb and can even create blisters too! I don't understand why more scissor companies that have great cutting blades do not make a comfortable scissors to use? I have Kai, Havel, Gingher, Mundial, Belding Corticelli and others and none of them are comfortable to use for more than a couple of minutes at a time. In fact, the scissors I can use the longest for most precise cutting are Kai's Paper Scissors (I use them for fabric cutting too) because they cut well and have wide hand openings on both sides. Why more companies cannot make wide hand/thumb openings for scissors cutting is baffling to me. Like I said I have small hands, so I cannot even imagine someone with large thick hands being able to use most scissors out there. These Fiskars would also work well for larger hands. ... show more

Fiskars 10 Inch Amplify Mixed Media Shears, 10-Inch, White, Model:171020-1001 This is the second "Fiskars 10 Inch Amplify Shears" that I've purchased. The first was for me, this second is a gift. I've had mine for several years now and I'm 100% delighted with them. Fiskars is a TOP brand for cutting tools. Scissors, pruners, tree trimming poles, axes, tree saws...they make so many things for cutting. I own all of the above except the axe, I don't have a Fiskars axe. (yet) I have more than 30 pairs of scissors from tiny 3 inch long tatting scissors to 14 inch long tailor sheers. These Fiskars 10 Inch Amplify Scissors are my #1 favorite. I also bought the 6 inch version, they're great also, but these 10 inch Amplify Scissors are the best. These 10 inch Fiskars Scissors are a great size for sewing. They only sound like they would be too large. For cuts in cloth for sewing, these are: very sharp, very accurate, EASY to use, sure, and powerful. These engender or induce a sense of confidence making any cut, but especially difficult cuts. Great for sewing, but also for: upholstery, crafting, shop, etc. The size fits smaller hands very well, but also easily fits large hands. These are very high quality! No exaggeration! In your hand you'll know the difference immediately, especially compared to most "bargain" scissors. These are sharp, sturdy, reliable, accurate, smooth, scissors. These cut with ease through: cloth, leather, canvas, webbing, sheet plastic, etc. Don't use these to cut metal or rubber, don't be silly! Metal & rubber ruin scissors, really! "Secure Packaging" These cut through that heavy plastic "Secure Packaging" some products come in...easily! These just cut right through...they're so powerful! My right thumb is very arthritic; consequently, I avoided using scissors because it was so painful. These scissors are spring-loaded, so I don't have to use my thumb to open the scissors after closing the blades to cut something. I still have to use a pinching movement to open and close the lock, but I can do that with my left thumb and forefinger, which are less painful. I keep these scissors in the kitchen, so I've used them for a variety of non-food related tasks. They're very sharp; I actually cut my thumb on a blade while cleaning them. Pros: Everything! Easy to hold, excellent control, cuts cleanly and easily! These were a gift for my partner, she is a colage artist using mixed media, and she loves them! Cons: Pricey at $18, but they were a gift so I paid it. Conclusion: These are a true winner, I highly recommend them!
