I received my 28-inch Fiskar lopper today, and I am DELIGHTED with it. It is the ideal length for most homeowners. Long enough to give good leverage making it easy to use, but short enough to get into tight places. Blade is sharp enough and strong enough to do the job with a minimal amount of effort. Did more in an hour with it than my old Harbor Freight one did in several hours before bending the handle on a tough limb. Fiskars is better built, and very reasonably priced. These are awesome. I had a pair that I thought I had misplaced or someone had walked off with them. I use these all the time, so ordered this pair - same exact pair that I had previously ordered and had for many years. Of course, within a week of these arriving, I found the original pair (I had been laid up so had someone else taking care of the yard, etc., and they didn't put these back where we normally keep them and I had wooden outdoor tile stacked on the table where I found them - kind of hiding them). Anyway - we love them so much, we decided to keep both pairs - one handy for the front and one for the back. I've used these this morning already as with all the rain in TX, everything is growing - they cut great, are easy to operate and easy to grip. Having had a Corona AL 8350 lopper I find this particularly gardening tool stronger built and with adequate strength & sharpness to shear off branches of the advertised diameter with enough ease. Handles are well cushioned for easy grip. Happy with my choice.

First off, I will say these are not meant to be super heavy duty loppers for pruning large branches. They are meant to be small, light, and easy to use, and in those areas, it excels. When they first showed up, I thought no way these can cut a 1" hardwood branch, they are so light they have to be flimsy. OK, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. For as light as these are, they are surprisingly strong. The blade is sharp, coated to be rust resistant, and cutting effort is much less than expected. Durability is good, too. These are not the first pair I got, I had some for several years, and they served me better than I expected for both the price, and for how lightweight they are. I actually got these for my daughter, who likes to help out in the yard. They are light and super easy for even a 13 year old girl to use, the little gear reduction thing at the jaws really helps reduce the strength needed to cut, and they are light enough they don't wear her out. Also, the cutter is 'offset' so that it can almost cut flush if you hold them the right way. I tend to only give 5 star ratings to items that stand out above and beyond others I have used, and these come SOOOO close, but I'll give them 4-1/2 stars because over time the little bolts that hold the blades will loosen, and require tightening every once in a while. Not very often, but they still do. Keep in mind, my old pair have made hundreds of cuts, and maybe needed tightening 3 times. They still worked fine when the bolt loosened up, but they started to get a slight 'wobbly' feel in the hinge. When I saw I could get another pair for $15, I jumped on the chance. ... show more

I inherited my gardener sister’s old loppers and shears that have chopped many a hefty bush or tree on our plant-loving property. They are all too dull by now to chop through anything but tendrils and I have no idea how to sharpen them, so I bought these loppers for one specific job: wild blackberries. Don’t laugh. I’m terrified of blackberries. They have these murder thorns, much like my cats. Unlike my sweet kitties, blackberries don’t let go. A creek runs by our house. Blackberries love the creek. In the spring, there is explosive growth and they begin taking over the public sidewalk, forcing neighborhood walkers to detour into the dreaded car zone. It’s just rude. I’m not a gardener. I’m nervous about things like bugs (while appreciating what they do … mostly) and things that stab me without warning. In past years I’ve tackled the blackberries without finesse, chopping vines with great effort using loppers so dull that I could then pick up the cut parts using the same loppers to toss them into the debris bin. I figured with new cutters I might need to actually handle the hurtful twits, so also bought some leather palmed gardening gloves. Brilliant! I removed more of the vines than ever before! No stab wounds! A bloodless coup! Very little effort needed! I should hang a sign by the sidewalk saying “This dagger-free walkspace courtesy of {homeowner}. No homeowners were harmed in the process.” (You must pronounce that word using the ‘meow’ in the middle of it.) ... show more
