This advent calendar was for a 4 year old, and boy did he love it! The trains were actually quite sturdy for being mini. And 4 year olds can be a little rough sometimes...on everything! Some were regular designed and others had a Christmas theme. One thing they all had in common were that they were unique (no doubles) and just cute as heck! I got one calendar for my two daughters abs they loved opening up a train every day. I even got excited to see what little surprise came each day. The variety off trains is really wonderful, and the Christmas themed ones are incredibly detailed. Each train has either the number or name of the train (may need a magnifying glass in some cases) so you can identify the train! My 4 year old son loved this calendar especially the trains that were decorated for Christmas. The doors were a little hard for him to open by himself (the edges around the doors would sometimes come off with the door) also he couldn't get the trains out of the plastic packaging once he had it opened so I had to get them out for him. Once the trains were out though he loved them. I bought him a pop top plastic container for him to decorate with stickers to hold all of his new Thomas Minis! ... show more

My Son LOVES Thomas and is enjoying immensely. Package arrived a little banged up but think flimsy before. Did not send back (he's going to tear open anyways) & cute mini trains. A little stiff to get out of plastic inside cardboard boxes per day, trains can link together and play on flip down track. Not sure what we're going to do with 24 mini trains after the holidays since it seems to be a single season investment but fun and cute for this year and would recovery ... show more

My five year old chose this for their advent calendar and absolutely loved it. They excitedly opened each day, and pored over every train taking in all the details. The trains have plastic bodies, and seem to be sturdy enough. There is a train track printed on the front of the cardboard box, my kid kept it to use the trains on.
