  • Great Book
Format: Kindle
Required for all first time landlords. The wealth of knowledge for first time landlords in this book is is well worth the time reading it.

  • Very Good Info, but...
Excellent information. Things I would never have thought of without being told. I feel pretty well prepared to begin renting now, however, this book doesn't give State Specific info; in other words it will describe a particular situation and then it will tell the reader to 'check the laws in your State', so if you want to know that particular law in your particular State, you'll have to buy another book or check some other resource. Overall, seems like a very good first book for First-Time Renters. (By the way, if anyone's interested, I have a 2 Bed, 1 bath house in Burbank available...) ... show more

  • Great book
Great book works as advertised!

  • Very worthwhile purchase!
Briefly, I was sort of thrown into a situation where I was suddenly a landlord of 8 properties (I know, sounds strange, but true). I had to quickly get up to speed on what was required of me, what I should require of my tenants, what I needed for insurance, etc. I found this book at my local library and liked it so much that I purchased it so I can keep it handy. It's very easy to read and explains things from the ground up. It also discusses the pros & cons if you're thinking about buying rental properties but haven't yet (I skipped that section because I was already neck-deep in properties). I highly recommend this book, and the NOLO website has also been extremely helpful. ... show more

  • A Good Start, But...
This book is a very lawyerly introduction to the subject, with plenty of general topics and advice, but I was looking for more of a starter kit. Now I need to buy a book that gives example forms, checklists and letters instead of what this NOLO book does--gives you lots of horror stories and disclaimers, then refers you to a number of their own products for purchase. Additionally, I found the many USA Today charts herein to be wholly unrelated to the topics, almost as if the USA Today graphic was used only to lend credibility to the book cover. I think I'll look for one of those yellow Dummy books now... ... show more

  • I am making money following it's advice!
I bought this book when starting a rental business. This book is eye-opening, really. I surprised my real estate agent. It gives many hands on details as well as resource for further learning. It is a small book so don't expect it to help you make million dollar decision, however, for a small rental business in initial stage, this is pretty much all you need. This book also helped me avoid a few costly mistakes. It is also very easy to read. What can be a better compliment than simply saying: I read it and I am making money following it's advice! ... show more

  • Good place to start, but more in-depth info would help
I agree with the other reviewers that this book is very well-written, easy to read, and concise (perhaps a bit too concise). It gives a good overview about what to expect when renting out a property; however, I wish it had information about how to find a good rental property and determining the returns on investment. The bottom line is this book will get you started, but it only gives you more questions than answers. You will definitely need a more in depth book to guide you through the process. ... show more

  • Good book for first time landlords
We were getting ready to rent out a home that had been for sale for a long time and hadn't moved. This book gave me a lot of hints for things I hadn't considered before. Thanks to the tips in the books, I felt confident in interviewing potential renters and knew what to look for when interviewing. I also know how to protect myself with certain clauses in my lease agreement thanks to the book. ... show more
