  • Splitting made easy.
This makes splitting easy as heck ! Very versatile. It cuts the time and effort of splitting wood quite a bit. You can secure the base of the splitter to a tree stump with long screws (provided with splitter) which just adds to more stability for use. It has a double sided blade so it doesn't matter if it is upside down or right side up and it works like a dream. I pre cut logs into 16 inch sections and use a 10 lb hammer, which makes the wood split "like a hot knife through butter". Really accelerates the process of splitting as opposed to the old fashioned splitting maul by hand with repeated "whacks" by hand. Having the wood sections "sit" on top of the metal blade like a "wishbone" while being contained in an upright position is genius. Doesn't take much effort to make it split. I can't help but wonder if this was invented by someone who had to split wood regularly. This is not only efficient, but it makes it fun too. This is a must have if you split and burn firewood. ... show more

  • Work's, but what should you expect from a company that sends to 2 left hand gloves.
Ok, the welds aren't horrible the hardware though. The whole thing should be welded not bolted together. The allen cap bolts I was afraid to torque them to much and the mounting screws must be made of chinesium. First strike of a log and 3 of the 4 screw heads blew off. And the legs should abe longer to allow the log to rest on its own, I had to hold it with one hand tap it to start once it was started and standing on it's own whack! And the mounting screw heads blew apart. Take 2, I had some 2 1/2" timber locks, I anchored it with them. Great idea just needs a bit more thought in the design. Oh, and yeah they sent 2 left hand gloves. Lol. Design it a bit better and us better hardware. It will probably work pretty good. I'm probably gonna cut the leg's off, put some 3/4" rebar in there place make them longer. So it cradles the log so you can just throw them in and smack them. Dave ... show more

  • Great for splitting kindling safely
I ordered this log splitter for the local Boy Scout troop; I figured it would be safer than the boys splitting with an axe. I was right. The assembly was easy, even in the woods. We initially used 8" tent stakes to hold it down, which worked well, but we eventually found a log big enough to screw it down to. The safety aspect alone makes this log splitter worth the money. After four days of camping and lighting fires, the blade was still very sharp. I like it and will bring it to all our camp outs. ... show more

  • OK
Forget about splitting logs that fill up the diameter but it is pretty good for kindling, you will need bigger screws to make it stationary.

  • You can split kidding from small pieces
It works for making kindling from small pieces. Maybe even you can make some small pieces from a med average split wood piece. Works okay and not a game changer. Comes with a pair of absolutely useless gloves. I knew they wouldn't be much but simply trash. Overall though it's kind works.

  • If you’re realistic, this splitter is a reliable resource.
Before you would buy this Firewood Kindling Spliter, you would need to know whether it works and whether it would last. The answer to both questions is a strong ‘yes'. Minor assembly took minutes. When mounted to a wood base (I mounted mine to an oak round approximately 3” thick and 18” in diameter), the splitter is secure with minimal wobble. Although the marketing specifies you can split a log 8” in diameter (and you can), smaller diameter logs are easier to split. Also, logs of 12” long are much easier to split than longer logs, which is fine for kindling. When making kindling or splitting logs, one hack is to split the log exactly in half, then work on the halves and split them into smaller sections to produce your kindling. Note that dry wood will split quite easily; damp wood will require heavier swings with your hammer (even a claw hammer would work for dry wood, but a two or three-pound hammer would work better). It feels as though the splitting frame could take a pretty good punch without being damaged. Look, you won’t be splitting a cord of wood at a time with this thing, but for the occasional burner who wants to keep a plentiful supply of kindling and smaller split logs, this will be a good addition to your firewood tools. ... show more
