  • Almost perfect for everything
I bought this because a friend recommended it to me as an inexpensive laser level. Inexpensive doesn't always mean good. And with a level, accuracy is more important than inexpensive. I compared it with other levels that I trust and found that it's spot on. And then I discovered that it was useful for many other things, like running a line between two points, measuring the waviness of a wall, and many others. I say it's "almost perfect" because, I found several applications where I needed a 360 degree level/line. I was building a wall and wanted to transfer the sill plate line to the ceiling. I was able to do it with this laser level by moving it 4 ft from the start of my wall, but lining up the sill plate line from 4ft away was a bit tedious. I was hanging mini-blinds inside a window frame. I was not able to use that same technique since the level had to be inside the window frame. But at the end of the day, this is a very handy tool to have. ... show more

  • Goodbye to bubble levels forever! The laser in this ...
Firecore Self-Leveling Horizontal/Vertical Cross-Line Laser Level ( not Include 2AA battery) Goodbye to bubble levels forever! The laser in this device is the elusive class 2 which is very bright. The laser is rated at <1mw so it relatively safe if you accidentally look directly into the source of the beam. Using the laser level helped tremendously with two recent projects on the house. The first project was to replace a few fascia and soffits around the outside of the house. The other project was to level the floor underneath a section of the house with a pier foundation. I also performed range tests indoors with the lights turned on and found that the range is greater than 50 feet (15.3 meters). The included picture was taken next to the laser positioned at the end of a 30 foot (9.2 meters) long room which leads to another 22.5 foot (6.9 meters) long room. The dark brown door at the far end of the photo is around 50 feet (15.3 meters) away from the laser. The laser is clearly visible on the brown door. Outdoors in direct sunlight will decrease the range dramatically. The maximum range seems to be around 5 or 6 feet (+/- 1.8 meters) in direct sunlight. On a very bright day, when standing in the shade, the range will vary from 15 - 30 feet (4.6 – 9.2 meters). At dusk, night time, or working underneath the house, the range is similar to indoors at around 15.3 meters. This tool is a must have for any self-proclaimed handy man to use for any and all projects around the house. ... show more

  • Very nice little laser
This is a nice little level, whose price (I paid $50) makes it a very good value. I bought this to do some leveling on our garage floor, and using it prevented me from making some costly mistakes, as it revealed problems were other than what I suspected with the naked eye. That alone made it worth the price and more, and I hadn't even put it to use with a number of other projects we have. Indoors the laser is plenty strong and the line visible. Shopping around showed me that similar lasers were priced much higher. Where it really sold me was the morning I took it outside to try it on some grade sloping we are also working on. I wasn't expecting much, as it's not the strongest laser, and I've rented rotating professional lasers made for outdoor use, and even those don't work really well during the day. Well this little beauty did just fine. In low to mid-level light the line was visible on the story pole. It has limitations, it's good probably to about 50' +/- 10'. That's not huge, but it works for us, and it's not $700+ either. Strategic placement of the tripod makes for pretty good coverage. The main limitation is its field of view. The laser has about a 120 degree arc in which the laser casts its line. The emitter is recessed into the case quite a bit, so it cannot cast side-to-side. So, depending on what you are working on, you may have to re-position the unit. Overall, however, the unit is a winner. Update: an additional thing I've discovered is that in medium light outdoor, when the red laser is dim on the white side of the story pole, if you turn the pole 180 degrees so the silver/grey side is toward the laser, it is much more visible. I can use it outdoors even in the middle of a cloudy day and see the line on the back side of the pole. ... show more

  • Most valuable tool for my basement finishing project by far!!
This has been the most valuable tool that I purchased for my basement finishing project hands down. Framing my 1300 sq ft basement would have been far more difficult without this excellent tool. It’s value for the money far outweighs all other tools in my arsenal! First, I had to lay down pressure treated wall footers on the concrete floor for floating walls required here in Colorado. I set a line with the level 4” off of the sill plate and set the footers on this line with construction adhesive and Ramset nails. Then I used the level again to position headers to nail to the rafters so that the studs between the two would be perfectly plumb. The result is perfectly straight and plumb walls. In two areas, I needed to create drop ceilings to avoid ductwork and piping. I mounted the level to a camera tripod with leg extensions to raise the horizontal line to where I wanted the ceiling. I framed to this line, creating a perfectly level ceiling frame. This would have been a monumental task without this amazing level. Some have said that the lines produced are too thick and not bright enough. I disagree on both points. The lines are sufficiently bright. I did have to block one of the windows with cardboard when the sun was too bright, but it was largely quite visible all through the project. The lines are certainly thin enough to frame within 1/32 of an inch. If anyone needs greater accuracy, I cannot imagine why! Battery life is very good, lasting many long days with the laser constantly on. In short (haha), this is an excellent tool for a fabulous price. You simply cannot go wrong! ... show more
