    • These things works pretty good
These "pellets" (they look like unfrosted "Mini-Wheats") will get your charcoal going in pretty good time. Just lay a few of them on the grate and put the charcoal on top of them and ignite them. They are fairly smoky but, hey, it's at charcoal grill and the smoke settles out after a few minutes. Other than the tolerable amount of smoke, they burn cleanly and add no flavors of their own to your BBQ. There are a lot of these in the box and you only need 3 or 4 of them to get your fire going, so one box should easily last your entire grilling season. ... show more

I started using fire starters like this when I finally grew up and got a gravity fed charcoal smoker (master built). Getting the coals lit in a unit like this means that lighter fluid is not an option, and can be tricky with inferior fire starter brands. The others I have purchased in the past were a crap shoot, because many of the little logs were mostly unravels and falling apart. Put I was happily surprised when these arrived and I saw that most all are very tightly wrapped little logs, and they seem to have some kind of wax or slight coating on them that not only seems to aid in keeping them together, but also helps them burn longer to help the fire get going.
