I picked up the 64 GB blue version on Prime Day. I was able to get the matching cover https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RR6HQKX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and with tax paid around what the 32GB with no cover usually costs. This super aggressive pricing is a huge factor in favor of the Fire tablets, and Amazon reliably discounts all of its self branded products for Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. Yes any Apple tablet is going to beat any Fire tablet or similarly priced Android product in every single way. If your budget is in Apple's price range you really should buy one because they are great and you will be very happy with it. If you are someone that thinks those prices are too high for steaming a movie once in a while or reading a book now and then (and you are correct), then this Fire 10 tablet might be the right choice for you. Android tablets in this price range aren't going to set any performance records, and users accustomed to nearly instantaneous responses from every tap on their (overpriced and overpowered) smart phone may notice quite a bit of lag when using a tablet like this. Let me assure you that ALL tablets in this price range (and many that cost a whole lot more than this) are going to seem slow compared to the overwhelming number of smart phones people have snapped up the last few years. Be prepared for comparatively sluggish task switching, and for apps to open noticeably more slowly. That doesn't mean they won't run, but they aren't going to pop open like they do on your phone that probably cost many multiples of times more than this. I've found that apps...once open...work exactly as expected without issues. The HD screen is much better than other inexpensive tablet I've owned. Its nice and bright, and video plays very smoothly. Heavy book readers truly should go for a Paperwhite Kindle model over anything with a backlight, but the text on this screen is very good for more casual reading, web sites, the occasional book, etc. Viewing angles are generous, making it legible from a variety of angles and distances that works good even in Show mode. The biggest negative is that there is still a lot of bezel. I'd expect some effort at device shrinking, including a smaller bezel, in the next iteration if Amazon expects these devices to remain relevant. The sound from the tiny speakers are fine for Alexa responses or something like an audible book, but for music or movies you are going to want an external speaker or headphones. I like to keep bluetooth off for battery life, so the physical headphone jack is a big plus to me. I streamed a few TV show episodes, about 1/3 of a movie (which I had started on my Firestick and was able to resume on my Fire tablet), read a few magazines and news articles, streamed music to an external speaker, and played a few different games while trying out the tablet. I still had 28% battery life left when I plugged it in to try out Show mode. The battery drains as you would expect with any device: quite a bit faster playing games and streaming video than when playing music or reading. Overall, the estimated time Amazon gives appears to be on the optimistic end of what people have reported from real testing, and I didn't see anything to make me think its unfair. The bottom line is most people are going to get a normal day's mixed use out of it without much trouble. Alexa works like you expect, with the added benefit of it being portable. One feature I really like is being able to get double duty out of it as a Show device while charging. That matching cover helps here because I can prop it up or grab it on the go very quickly. The cameras are pretty terrible though, so expect functional but not good video calling and only if you have good lighting. Improving the front camera would be a good upgrade for the next model, and I'd personally trade the virtually useless rear camera for a single, good quality front one. Amazon's unapologetically self serving UI gets a lot of criticism, but the truth is a lot of people use Amazon services and if you are one of them the Fire 10 makes it exceptionally simple to access all of it. If there are apps not in Amazon's store you want to use.. well, let's just say I had the play store installed, Chrome synced, and a movie playing on HBO Max in less than 10 minutes following simple instructions I found with the easiest search terms in you can think of in Google. If you want to strip it down to a more stock Android launcher you can do that too. Seriously, don't worry about Amazon's store or app selection. Regarding storage, I opted for the 64GB version mostly because of shipping availability and I didn't want to wait. The 32GB version is an amazing product and is usually the better value of the two options. Regardless of which one you get, I recommend you add an SD card formatted as external storage NOT as internal memory. The reason is that no tablet is going to access an inserted card as fast as it can its internal memory, and the last thing you want to do is make this tablet any slower. The Fire should automatically select all the right file types (music, photos, etc.) to save to the card so you can save the internal space for your apps. TLDR: The 2019 Fire 10 is a good product made great when you can get it at one of Amazon's frequently offered sale prices.

After purchasing two or three Kindle Paperwhites, I realized that my eyes were straining to read the written word. This past Christmas, a good friend of mine called me to help him find his wife a replacement for her very old and worn out Kindle. I knew she had one and had told me that it had seen better days. Early last year, I gave her a brand new Kindle Paperwhite just like the one I had. To my mind, the Oasis is too overpriced for what it offers and that extra inch of diagonal screen size is certainly not worth the extra $100+ I would have to pay. However, I had long been under the impression that what she had all these years was a Paperwhite solely because when she purchased hers, the Oasis did not exist. In fact, she might have even had the Kindle, not even the Paperwhite it was so old. Then just before Christmas, she told me something odd—her screen she thought was much larger than the one I gave her and I replaced that other than the Oasis, that was the largest screen on a Kindle. Finally, she retorted that she had a Kindle Fire 10” model. I had heard of them, but actually thought that the Fire was no longer sold and believed the reason to be because it could not compete with the iPad. After all, no one can. If Amazon couldn’t, who could? No one, that the right answer. When her husband called stating he wanted to replace hers, I had already looked online for the Kindle Fire 10 and realized that the Fire was really a Kindle plus a tablet that one could do more. And this 2019 version could do much more than the 2017 release. It has a octa-core chip which made it very fast, like the iPad, Amazon was charging too much for memory; however, Apple’s memory is top rate memory; the best money can buy, but the memory in the Kindle is not ‘top drawer’ to say the least. It’s just memory, but good memory. It does have an expansion drive in that of a microSD card up to 128GB and it’s made by SanDisk especially for the Amazon. That’s how much pull Amazon has these days, thankfully so. So, he purchased her one. The only thing I can’t understand is why the Fire 10 is exactly the same price as the Paperwhite. It’s so much more and it’s in color whereas the Paperwhite is b&w. Maybe it’s a sell at cost to compete in some small way with the iPad. But, I doubt is uses Android. At least, I hope it doesn’t. Well, this 10” + is one great reader and tablet. Amazingly, what I found is where the Paperwhite is a very good reader, this does one thing that the Paperwhite never could or would. The🔥 Fire 10 (2019) urges me to read and read more where the Paperwhite caused so much eye strain, that I would read 10-15 pages at best in one sitting. The Fire 10 encourages me to read nearly a whole Christie novel in one night. I can’t seem to put it down. I even set up my email on the Tablet so I don’t have to put it aside and go to my iPad when I am reading. I can order from Amazon on the Fire 10 as well without doing the same with email. The color is striking. The only odd thing is why Dolby Atmos is played on the very small speakers is beyond me. I think it would be virtually useless to listen to a movie in Atmos on any tablet. Maybe it’s a selling key point. The Kindle Fire 10 is very light and can go anywhere. The battery life has a lot to be desired. It simply drops like the ball in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. So, I read with my plugged in—however, it does use USB-C which is a super uptick from the Fire 7 and 8. I could go on and on, but there are plenty reviews online that will give you all attributes and negatives when read together. But, in the end, what I can say is that this tablet/reader is really fantastic. I can’t imagine what will be available by the time the Kindle Fire 10, 12th Generation is released. At this price, it will surely be a steal. I just wonder if I will any longer need an iPad Pro? Yes, probably so, but along with the Kindle Fire 10, xx Generation. I shall also keep the Paperwhite when going to the doctor or dentist or anywhere else I expect to be a wait, no, make that a long wait as per the medico’s office.

I've had this tablet for one day. Purchased it for $79.99. bought the white version. The last fire tablet I owned was a 2012 model. With that ugly carousel based software :) This 2019 HD 10 model is very impressive. I know it's not a top end tablet, and it's not a bottom of the line either. I would consider it a mid-level tablet. My review is based on what I got for 80 bucks. and for 80 bucks, this thing just cannot be beat. The build quality is pretty solid. Sure, it is plastic. But that's what you get in this price range. To me, it does not feel flimsy in my hands. The screen is not amoled like we have on some of our other tablets and all of our phones. But the screen is very crisp in terms of lettering. A testament to the high pixel count per inch. as for brightness, it is more than bright enough in my opinion. I think I read a review where it screan brightness was measured at 404 nits approximately. The cameras are not that great. For me personally, cameras are very important on phones. Cuz my phone is with me all of the time. We use tablets to consume content and to shop online. a tablet camera is just not one of our use cases. But if it is important to you, let's say for doing video calls, then you might want to look a little more closely at the specifications related to the camera. That might weigh in on your decision. As for the software, I like it. I like how they added the home screen for all of the apps. Most of the stuff I put in folders to remove the clutter. Easy to find things that way. I have no complaints about swiping to visit the other pages such as videos, books, apps, etc. It's nice that they have the ability to add profiles for multiple users. I set up a profile for my wife and I, and two profiles for the little ones. I did notice something odd, in that for my profile I had already downloaded the Disney+ app. When my wife was in her profile Disney+ was not available. Naturally. But if she wanted the app, she was going to have to download another copy. It just seemed odd to me. especially considering the kids profiles. I did not have to download Disney+ for the children's profiles. All I did was I went into the parental controls and added The appropriate app to their profile so that it was available to them. The tablet had no need to download it another copy. So the profile issue might be a big deal if you have multiple adult profiles... Depending on how many apps you load you could run out of precious storage. Since there is only 26 GB available to the user on the 32 GB model. To alleviate the The possibility of running out of storage, you can insert an SD card and format it for internal storage. That's the option that Google introduced several versions ago to Android... So it formats the SD card to be internal storage just like what's found in the tablet. As long as the SD card is very fast, then you probably won't see a decrease in performance on the tablet. For example if you insert a 128 GB SD card, The tablet will see 160 gigabytes of internal storage. Overall, I am impressed for 80 bucks!!!

Edit Update, July 1, 2020: In fairness I have made the choice to upgrade my star rating from 3 to 4 stars. I did this because in the last few days I have found myself liking my Amazon Fire 10, even with all its pitfalls. If I had returned it I would have keep it at three stars but I must do the right thing. Let me make clear, nothing has changed. Its still not transferring files (read below) and I am still afraid to remove my Micro SD card due to being forced to reformat it. However the Micro SD card does work, just don't remove it. Also I want to make another point about the USB-C charging cable all these reviewers are raving about. I have tried to transfer files on every known important operating system. Windows 10, 8.1, ubuntu 20.04 (Linux) and my wifes iMac G-5 and nothing works. So this is an issues that needs to be addressed. Original Review June 28, 2020: I have two major issues with my Amazon Fire 10. One: the inability to connect my Amazon Fire 10 to my desktop computers and two, finding a large capacity Micro SD card that will work. In 2017 I reviewed the Amazon Fire 8 here on Amazon and guess what my only problem with it was? I could not get it to sink with my home computers to transfer files. Today, I own both a Linux and Windows 10 OS computer and they will not link. I also tried to link my Amazon fire 10 to my wife’s newest iMac G5 and no joy. After owning an iPad Pro 12.9 and it having the very same linking issues, I have concluded that it might be this new USB-C cable that Mac and Amazon are raving about in their ads. What good is a fast recharge, if it will not transfer information to your home computer? To add to my frustration, I bought a 256 GB, Micro SD card in hopes to download home videos and other huge files from my fire to my home computer and back the other way as well. I had to find out the hard way to not remove the Micro SD card because when you do you have got to reformat it after you reinstall it again. Huh? What is that about Amazon? Talk about anger issues, I lost hours of hard work and videos that I am still trying to get back in order after I was forced to reformat the card. And yes I did unmount it first and it made no difference. This is a five star tablet Amazon but you folks have got to fix this huge issue of getting it to link with our home computers and fix its Micro SD card problems. Pros: Great price, fast, in my opinion the visuals are as good as my 7th gen. iPad. The iPad Pro I had, had the best visuals but that thing was over a thousand dollars so its visuals better be the best. The Amazon fire feels solid and not cheep. Looks great in my leather tablet case. And you can add up to 512 GB Micro SD card, if you can find one that big that works, good luck. Easy to use OS that is fun to navigate. Cons: Will not transfer files between home computers and newest Fire device. My other tablets and devices have no problem with this but they are using the old school cable connectors. I had a very hard time trying to find a large capacity Micro SD card that works. When you do find one you can not remove it for fear that you might have to reformat it again even if you unmount it first. To sum up my review, you can not be the best price in town if you can not transfer files or you got to jump through hoops and massage your Micro SD card in hope that it might work. I can recommend Amazon Fire 10, if you just want a device that you just want to play with, if transferring files or adding memory is not important to you. In this case I would recommend the built in 64 gigabyte model. I can not yet recommend the Amazon Fire 10 if you want to add 256 gigabytes of memory or more and watch out for the format issue I was talking about. But most of all I can not recommend the Fire with this new USB-C cable because it will not transfer anything between computers.

Let me start this with, no I’m not an amazon fan boy, work for amazon, or received this free for a review. I received this tablet in place of one that was an older model that had an issue in which the remedy was to replace it with the current 9th Gen tablet. The old one pretty much spent its life in the living room or on the treadmill for reading. So I decided to give this one a go in lieu of just getting money back. In short, I’m pretty happy with it. Yes, the case is plastic and your married to the amazon ecosystem. But I will say, out of all the tablets I’ve had before this (yes...even the venerable HDX 8.9) the HD 10 with the octo-core processor is faster than them all. One could argue that it’s Android 9 (Pie) as the base OS, but it’s a definite improvement! The big plus for me is the micro SD slot, yes I have 64gigs on-board, but I also use a lot of storage for PDF’s and How-to videos. I like this unit for the price (which I will say is a heck of a deal)...and it’s not so crazy expensive that I’m scared to take it in the shop. Let me explain the “Shop” part. Aside from reading and consuming media like the masses, I house a ton of PDF manuals...service manuals to be frank. Some of these are 1000’s of pages of diagnostic information and electrical schematics. So being that it has expandable storage, it’s going to see more use than the last. I have this tablet in a hard case with a screen protector. I’ve been to the far reaches of the internet to gather a rather large collection of automotive material and it’s nice to be able to put almost 550gigs (OS and apps take up the rest) of stuff on a tablet that’s about $149-189 depending on base storage size. Big plus here. Battery life is almost a work day, and that’s pretty hard usage (using it during a job), some days are much more with just light browsing and reading in my off time, depending on screen brightness. Falls inline with what they claim. Alexa is surprisingly handy for cooking recipes, or just asking for some tunes (never used the assistant before) It’s decently responsive, kinda on the fence for the privacy aspect, but I like you can at least clear your history or view it, so kudos there. Amazon, ya done did good;) Only thing I will add to this review, please design a really decent PDF viewer of your own design that’s more intuitive (searchable) than the baked in kindle version, and you’ll knock this unit outta the park! Customer service needs a plug here, they handled my exchange to this unit quickly and I’m pretty dang happy with the outcome. Keep it up;)

...I'm not sure why people are expecting miracles out of this thing. As a person who currently owns the 2017 HD 10 (it'll be on it's way back to Amazon as trade-in fodder for this particular 2019 model) and being able to directly compare the two models side by side, I can tell you... You're not going to find a better value. Seriously. Yes, there's another big-box retailer who sells tablets of varying sizes and somewhat the same performance (quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM) for roughly the same pricing, but those models pale in comparison to what Amazon has pulled off with these Fire HD tablets. The Fire OS runs smoothly on these devices, whereas stock Android tends to run sluggish on the competitor's devices because they're not optimized for the software/hardware. Amazon makes sure these tablets work, right out of the gate. If they don't, they'll either fix or replace it, immediately. Can't beat that. It's snappy, a good bit snappier than the 2017 with its quad-core processor compared to 19's octa-core processor. Sadly, Amazon hasn't figured out that Android-based devices need at least 3 GBs of RAM these days, 2 is really pushing the lower limits. (I know, I know, someone will come along and say Android doesn't need more than 2 and how it handles RAM differently from other OSs, etc. Heard it all before.) 3+ needs to become the norm on Android devices. That said, this thing moves. Start-up and shutdown are rapid and furious. 2017's took upwards of a minute to fully load at power on. It dragged and dragged. It was a nice tablet, once loaded and running, but the 2019 model utterly defeats it. Same 1080p panel (gorgeous, btw), better audio with actual Dolby Atmos whereas the 2017 model was just Dolby Audio (good, but not Atmos.) and yes, even the packaging of these devices denotes the change. (2017 says Dolby, period and '19 says Dolby Atmos ) and now USB-C for faster charging and data transfers. Same SD Card slot, but now takes a maximum of 512 GB for storage! So, basically, it has everything you want and makes it better. It just falls short of what you need (more RAM) and better customization. All in all, you're not going to find a better tablet with this level of performance, for the price. MSRP at $149.99 is fantastic. Black Friday and Prime Day pricing of $99.99 or less is INCREDIBLE. Buy it on sale and get a great tablet experience. Oh, and yes, it's Alexa powered/Show Mode capable. Just a button press on the screen and off you go. Update: Over a month later and this is my daily driver over my PC and my Pixel 2 XL. The display remains gorgeous and Disney+ and Netflix just pop and wow on this display. So worth the money.

Update 12 Mar - 3 mths of use: A negative: After getting the storage card, ads now include a lot of gaming/gambling. I haven't completely reset ads but will probably be forced to. I tried to see if there's a specific option to just turn this category off. I find this detracts from the aesthetic/premium branding and price point to the point I wish I'd bought without ads. There should be an option to filter said out. I really don't like gambling ads on a premium device with premium price point. I do think it detracts from the Amazon brand and would have thought Amazon would not allow them for that reason. Otherwise, the rest is great. Do miss some Android ap options but oh well, have the phone for that. Kindle still next on list. Paperwhite to reduce eye strain risks which you can feel when overusing Fire 10 - and will invest in ads free next time. Prior: This is just a great treat - I bought this on cyber week special so the value for money is amazing. Great gift idea. Allows you to access apps off computer to which was a key reason I bought this. At this price point you can drop or break it and it won't really matter. I could have easily started with an 8 inch though as it does have some bulk in the hand and wanted it to use with kindle as well - so if you are a big reader not sure you could avoid a kindle with this. Was going to avoid a stand/cover but found you quickly need one - including as due to avoiding the need for continual tweaking/holding with hands - would prefer one was built in. The aspect of add-ons I am not thrilled with as they are quite expensive. Screen saver default comes on way too soon (but purchase ability would be in here). Ad content is barely noticeable and not intrusive. Screen and picture quality is beautiful. Easy to start up and use. Quick familiarization tutorials on first boot. A great purchase to which now makes my Galaxy s10 lite look tiny in one day. I had been avoiding getting a tablet as thought there was not enough need with a lap top and smart phone. Definitely not. Great purchase.

Ipad this, Ipad that..yada yada yada. My daughter wanted an 'ipad' for Christmas. She is 8. I did a lot of research before purchasing this item and am very happy I made this decision before jumping on the Ipad bandwagon! Every kind of app you can download on your iphone or ipad you can download on the Fire Tablet. I also love how we can add more memory if needed, which you cannot do with an ipad. We have downloaded full movies from Netflix and Amazon, books, games too. The tablet stays charged all day and also charges quickly. The size is great and quality of images is very very good. The sound quality is also great. I forgot to bring my Alexa with on vacation and used this tablet for music too! The kids Freetime app is awesome! ! I can set it so that my daughter has to do reading or learning activities BEFORE she hops on Roblux with her friends. This of course, makes her mad..but hey, Daughter-0, Mom-1. :) I can easily make the tablet very kid friendly, restricting certain apps, purchases, etc. The Freetime app can be customized for your childs age and books and games are very good quality. There are so many places that have Wifi, so not having actual cellular service has not been an issue whatsoever. Our daugher loves to text and 'Facetime' her friends and can easily do with the Facebook Kids Messenger app. If she is at a friends house or dance class her and I can also video chat each other. I also love the fire tablet for myself and secretively use it when she is in bed. I had no intentions of even trying it..but was so impressed I wanted to use! It is very easy to switch profiles and make everything password protected. I downloaded some books and Audible books for myself. My daughter doesn't need to be able to buy items on Amazon..but I do...I have a web browser. She doesn't. Do some research, see what you need a tablet for, compare pricing, and get it! You can thank me later. ;)
