Description

Fire helmet cameras have proven invaluable for modern emergency operations, with the resulting footage frequently used for training and investigations. Our fire helmet cameras are designed by firefighters and set industry standards for optics, video recording and reliability. The Fire Cam Onyx 4K, Fire Cam 1080 and Fire Cam Mini1080 capture high definition photos and videos, yet weigh just a few ounces and can be mounted to any fire helmet. These fire helmet cams feature improved low light performance, increased battery life and a wider lens angle compared to previous models. Two end caps are included, one cap allows for audio recording of surroundings including radio traffic and one for underwater use up to 30 feet. A removable micro SD memory card is included and a USB charging cable to connect camera directly to computer or outlet. Made of heat resistant anodized aluminum and a heat resistant glass lens specifically designed for interior firefighting, these cameras can withstand high heat flash temperatures while extinguishing fires. They are not recommended for training burn buildings or flashover buildings where firefighters sustain high heat temperatures for long periods of time while observing fire behavior. It is designed for interior firefighters that suppress fire conditions and cool the fire. Individual camera parts are replaceable allowing for years of use and optional mounting styles available. Edit: it's been 4 years and still going strong. I'm so glad I have a helmet cam, I've gotten some pretty awesome calls on video now. I got this a month ago, and so far I’ve gotten pretty cool video on a couple fires. Pros: -Video quality is fantastic, and pretty good in low light. Audio isn’t half bad either -Easy to use onscene—just hit the button and it starts recording, hit it again to pause -The BlackJack mount it comes with is handy, it has storage for its Allen wrench so you can get the camera off the mount quickly for charging or getting videos downloaded -Downloading videos onto my computer is super easy, just plug and transfer -Comes with their specially-formatted SD card already which is nice. I wouldn’t try to use your own SD card unless you want to deal with formatting it. -Seems durable so far Cons: -The manual contradicts itself about charging. When you plug it into the wall, it starts recording right off the bat, so you have to stop that and turn it back off. I’m still not entirely sure I’m charging it right haha—it’s sitting next to me and has a dull green LED on, and I’m guessing it’ll turn off when it’s done charging. I might buy their standalone battery charger for the sake of actually knowing the batteries are charged. -Speaking of the manual, it doesn’t come with a physical copy, which isn’t a huge deal, you just have to find it online. I found an easy way to share the videos is to just upload them to YouTube. Overall, super happy with the purchase, I’d buy it again. ... show more

This is a great camera! Bought it for my son as an Academy Graduation gift so he had one before his first shift. He loves it and uses it often. The footage allows his Shift to review their calls from fires to vehicle extractions. Amazingly clear quality and the sound is good as well!

Purchased this to get some action shots from calls. Sound quality on the videos were great. Easy to use and can record and take pictures with the press of the button. Very durable. Great functionality with the rechargeable batteries. Just wish I would remember to turn it on sometimes.

The image quality is excellent. The button is difficult to activate with structural fire gloves on. It comes with o-rings that must be installed for it to increase the waterproofing. It came with 3 batteries. Each one is good for about 90 minutes. If I had to add a feature, it would be Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity to download. It is well constructed in weighs about the same as a similarly sized flashlight. ... show more

    • Disappointing and frustarting
The product itself is cool but highly disappointing. For nearly $500 I expected a lot more. Between confusing and vague directions and not user-friendly programming, this product is definitely not plug and play. They have a generous warranty but thankfully I was able to return via amazon before needing to use the warranty or insurance. Unfortunately, after attempting to navigate all the negatives below, I discovered the battery pack became damaged after it's first live burn recording. The LiPo battery became swollen on the end and it's been outside ever since. Amazon says not to ship the batteries back due to them being swollen and a fire hazard during shipping and now I have to find out how to get rid of it. Just overall disappointed after having such high expectations and hopes for this. Update: replacement cam won't charge the batteries and flashes red and blue despite all the trouble shooting and none of those applications codes being an issue. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAM Pros: - Aluminum body Cons: - Recommends confusing and non-user friendly open-source formatting for SD cards. Why can't the SD card it comes with already be pre formatted? why can't you include directions on how to format SD cards using the software you recommend? - Directions say not to over tighten screws but doesn't include recommended torque specs so you'll probably end up over accidently tightening the mount screws and not be able to unscrew the cam from the end cap because the set screws in the mount are literally crushing the assembly and damaging the threads due to the outer aluminum body being so thin. -My test videos worked fine but the first live burn video I film can't be viewed by my software or Fire Cam's recommended open-source video viewing software -No external charger -The programing never saved for my no matter how many times I clicked saved. You're supposed to be able to open the file on the SD card after you insert it into the camera and make changes such as auto off, date and time stamp, etc and those setting would always resort to default no matter how many times I clicked save and it became very frustrating -Uses 3.7v LiPO 1050mAh batteries instead of a much more stable Li Ion battery. Firefighters (literally the primary target audience of this product) see first hand how many fires are caused by LiPo batteries so it complexes me why they choose to use LiPo batteries over Li Ion ... show more
