Description

Ivalice—a kingdom blessed by the light of the gods and ruled by the Two-headed Lion. A year after her defeat to Ordallia in the Fifty Years' War, the king succumbed to malady, leaving a mere boy of two to ascend the throne. Whoever was named regent would rule in truth, and thus emerged two rival candidates: dukes Goltanna and Larg, whose deeds during the war had earned them great renown. Goltanna the Black Lion and Larg the White Lion were destined to clash, and the resulting conflict would come to be known as the War of the Lions. Against this backdrop appear Ramza, third son of House Beoulve, one of Ivalice's leading military families, and his childhood companion Delita, a commoner raised amongst nobles. As they endeavor to chart a course through this tumultuous age, a mighty current draws them ever closer to the abyss. • Final Fantasy Tactics is Finally on Modern Consoles
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Amazon Exclusive
Final Fantasy Tactics is an incredible game and nobody, whether they be an old fan or a newcomer, can go wrong buying The Ivalice Chronicles. The two audiences this game can reach are players of the original and new players that have heard so much about Tactics but haven't been able to play it. It's good for both. The Ivalice Chronicles is the exact same story and gameplay as the original Final Fantasy Tactics, but given this new name for this version brought to modern consoles. The game was perviously locked to PS1 or, if you had a PS3, you could digitally download it through the PS3 online store. The simple fact that it's made available on contemporary systems is great and makes it worth the purchase for anyone who likes the original Tactics or tactical RPGs in general. Another reason this version is good to buy is because it comes with two version of the game: a "classic" version based on the original Tactics and the "enhanced" version with voice acting, updated UI, and the like. So if you don't like the changes they made (as a player of the original I'm not completely sold on them just yet) and want something closer to the original, you can have it. With that said, names of skills and locations are from the War of the Lion version, and the controls are updated even in the classic version. No more pressing O to affirm an action like in the original PS1. Since players of the original already know what they're getting when they buy this, I'll speak here to the new people. If you've never played this game before, I encourage you to get it. The story is amazing and the gameplay is great too. The only ways you wouldn't be able to appreciate this game are if you just don't like tactical games (which is understandable), or just aren't into stories with political drama (the politics are not the preachy kind that speak to current events, and they eventually take a backseat anyway—but I won't spoil it for you). Finally, most, if not all, of the good things you've heard about Final Fantasy Tactics are true. It is definitely worth playing. ... show more

  • Great purchase! Looks and plays great.

Great game. Im glad Amazon could deliver it on release date. The poster is included inside. You also get in game code for some extras. Though I'm not sure if these were exclusive to pre-orders. Regardless this game plays, looks and sounds beautiful. A true blast from the past with face lift. We'll worth the 50 bucks. ... show more

This is a great update to a game I fell in love with when I was a young lad. The updated UI is amazing, voice acting is great, and the nostalgia feelz hit in all the right places.

One of the best soundtracks in video game history. I've always loved this game and I'm so excited that they remastered it. True 10/10 classic.

  • Did not receive pre order bonuses and I preordered day 1 months ago!

Where is the preorder poster? And the promotional code for DLC says invalid, I’ve tried several times! Besides this one of the best games I ever played the preorder bonuses is lacking and leaving a little disappointment.

  • Review from the Perspective of an OG 1997 FFT player
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Amazon Exclusive
I wanted to like it, I tried, but the entire time I was simply comparing it to the original 1997 PS1 version If you bought this thinking you'll have a nostalgia trip, you'll probably be as disappointed as me. I never played WotL, I was a Final Fantasy 7 > Final Fantasy Tactics kid back in the 90s. What I didn't like about the Enhanced Version 1) Voice acting was too over the top and unnecessary, even with the Japanese voice. It takes away from focusing on 'the story' which I enjoy reading. Even if I lowered the volume to a 0 it also took away any character sfx from within the battles so it got too quiet 2) Every time someone got hit, they made an 'ouch' sound, which got annoying quick 3) The death sound isn't the "wahhhh" sound we're used to, it was just some sort of mumbled grumble 4) Controls are reworked, R1/L1 do not rotate and R2/L2 do not tilt/pan. X is select and not O like the original. I fumbled the entire time trying to get used to the new controls. Again, FFT controls were very similar to FF7, there's no reason to change it. 5) Because there is voice acting, you cannot change your character name, you're stuck with 'Ramza' I couldn't get past the 1st fight as I was so thrown off, so I decided to back to the main menu and play the Original Version Things got slightly better until I made my first move and immediately found things I didn't like... 1) X is select and not O (the 1997 version used O) 2) Auto-Battle changed to AI (I get it, but what happened to keeping it OG) 3) I thought the WotL translation was going to be dialogue only, but no. Abilities were so heavily changed from the 1997 PS1 version here that.... Fire 2 change to Fira Charge +1 changed to Aim +1 Throw Stone changed to Stone Rush changed to Dash Guts changed to Mettle Agrias' Stasis Sword changed to Judgement Blade it goes on and on.... The entire time I was playing all I was doing was verbally correcting what had changed from the OG version with things like "huh, in the original version it actually is this this and this". Again, I thought this was the 1997 version with WotL translations for dialog, but it's 1997 with ALL wording (dialog, names, abilities, etc) changed to WotL version. If you started FFT from the WotL version, you'll enjoy this game. If all you knew was the OG 1997 PS1 version, you'll probably be disappointed like me. This is a great effort, but I didn't get the same experience as I did in 1997. Call me petty, but if they thought I (and any 90s kid who had the 1997 PS1 version) were a major target audience, this was a missed opportunity to bring us back. Suggestions to the devs if it's possible to patch it up: Allow players to decide in the Options menu which components of which version they'd like to experience (Enhanced, OG, WotL) in relation to UI, controls, translation, voice acting, etc. Personally, I liked the new UI, didn't care for voice acting, but wanted the 1997 PS1 sfx, controls, and translation. Time to dust off my PS2 and pop that memory card in... ... show more
