Description
Ivalice—a kingdom blessed by the light of the gods and ruled by the Two-headed Lion. A year after her defeat to Ordallia in the Fifty Years' War, the king succumbed to malady, leaving a mere boy of two to ascend the throne. Whoever was named regent would rule in truth, and thus emerged two rival candidates: dukes Goltanna and Larg, whose deeds during the war had earned them great renown. Goltanna the Black Lion and Larg the White Lion were destined to clash, and the resulting conflict would come to be known as the War of the Lions. Against this backdrop appear Ramza, third son of House Beoulve, one of Ivalice's leading military families, and his childhood companion Delita, a commoner raised amongst nobles. As they endeavor to chart a course through this tumultuous age, a mighty current draws them ever closer to the abyss.

I have every version of this game from the original to iPad to psp and now Switch. First the bad news the extra content from the psp edition are gone and modern gamers may not like the linearity there done. Now the good news is the quality of life additions and a free update to make it enhanced on switch 2 with AI so much better that all the old tricks don’t work, It also comes with the original so it’s 2 games in one yes they are the same but having the ability to play both and compare is great. I can now see where I am placing my units and being able to create 3 preset load outs let me create 3 variants without having to manually do it means no changing jobs, abilities and equipment saves me time and no longer requires one of each job and grind. In the new edition npc’s and plot characters are weaker but with the new AI it wouldn’t be as viable to lean on those characters abilities as before you actually have to plan. The graphics the voice acting and altered script for modern audiences are not as intrusive either even clearing up the narrative to not only focus on the plot but make it tie into the characters motivations with more of the characters and not just Delita and Ramza but even more so you understand who is doing what and why. If you like strategy games with a good linear plot with some secrets and see how great square-enix once was this is worth a purchase. I opted for this version because it get’s grinder than before and hand held is easier to make time for but other than graphics all versions are great. My only personal gripe is taking out FF12 music that was in the psp version and not having an orchestrated version of the music but that’s my issues everyone else may not care but the music is still as impressive as always. If you like tactical games and plan to get all the secrets worth a purchase if you just want to bee line it not caring think about it or wait for a sale. Even beating both versions won’t make some modern gamers happy but once they play it that may change. It took forever for this but worth the wait and who knows the psp version may get added as a multiplayer add on later and if not other than the jobs and music most are not missing much. If you like tactical RPG’s here is one of the best. The switch 2 version update improved everything and made the enemies smarter when I removed it that update wasn’t available but once it was I installed it and the enemy AI turned into actually being different to the point it won’t just be all over the place the enemies now picks a unit and gang up on the unit intelligently not blindly go after the closest unit and gang up they weaken and run heal and then go after them again. Even certain changes to the zodiac symbol effects the units performance. Even impacting damage stats some with one sign will do less damage or receive more damage from enemies and the reverse can be said. Buying the cartridge is all I wanted and when the free upgrade came out for switch 2 I was ecstatic so yes 5 stars for the amazon exclusive version. The standard based on your area may require you pay for the upgrade one person I know had to pay $12 for it so I can’t verify it 100% but if it was due to being amazon exclusive version great if not then I will eventually learn why. Bottom line want 58 hours of fun this is it want 70 hours get all the secrets. I recommend this game for any fans and newcomers. The free upgrade surprised me and after seeing the AI whoop me good and I don’t know if I am imagining it or not but the characters look like moving oil paintings now. I played it on my oled switch after the update to see and the difference seems that way but I can’t be sure if it is the difference in screens the colors are brighter on switch one but on 2 darker and more cleaner with better animations so it’s my imagination or something else. Just know one thing if you do upgrade the batter drains faster. I have nearly beaten it so if after I unlock something I will change my review to reflect that but no matter the version this game is art. Highly recommended especially this version enjoy.

I never got a chance to play the original, so I can't offer a comparison on thay front, but I can honestly say that that is one of the best Strategy RPGs I've ever played. The story is incredible, with a deep, lore rich world snd the political intrigue is top notch. Ranza is a very satisfying character to play as and grow with as the story goes on and I have an even stronger emotional attachment to Ivalice after playing Tactics. The battles are challenging and I had a lot of fun trying out different jobs and lineups for my units to see what fit my play style best. I know there are guides and such for the best jobs to carry yoy through the game, but I really liked just figuring out what would feel the best for me while optimizing without feeling like I was playing by rote, if thay makes sense. The graphics are lovely and I find the character sprites very charming. The music and voice acting absolutely top notch as well. This game is a masterpiece, imo. If I could scrub it from memory just so I could have the experience of playing for the first time all over again, I would. I have gone back replayed, because I love thw game, but the first time through just packed such an emotional punch.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has been amazing to revisit. I played this game for the first time on the PS1, and it was incredible back then—and it still holds up today. This is not an easy game, but that’s part of what makes it so special. The story is deep, mature, and memorable. While the graphics are not the main highlight by today’s standards, the history, characters, and political storytelling are what truly make this game shine. The PS1 era was a golden age for RPGs, and Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best examples of that time. I’ve tried other versions over the years (including mobile), but they didn’t feel right—slowdowns, strange ports, and missing or awkward elements took away from the experience. On the Switch, however, this port is fantastic. The new implementations—such as clearer text, improved visuals, event presentation, and better character definitions—make the game feel refreshed without losing its soul. Overall, this port is absolutely worth it. If you love tactical RPGs, classic Final Fantasy, or great storytelling, this is a must-have addition to your collection.

I'm LIVING! I loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as a kid (honestly it's probably one of my favorite games of all time, I hope someday they remake that one!) and played some of the original Final Fantasy Tactics on the Playstation, and I'm having as much fun now with this remake as I did then. I like Fire Emblem games- but something about the Final Fantasy Tactics games is superior; I don't have an explenation as to how or why but I am having so much fun! Being able to compare the difference between the classic and remake versions is really fun too! The remake is superior- simply because it's more intuitive and certain things are streamlined in battle. I'm invested in the story, and watching the improved cutscenes is so great! I don't know if regular Final Fantasy fans will enjoy the game (simply because the battle system is different from the usual Final Fantasy battle system) but the quality of life improvements to the game and options for difficulties make it a good investment if you enjoy tactical rpgs- or rpgs in general. HEADS UP: you can wander the map to level up. I totally forgot at first (and was tearing my hair out by the time you reach the desert), but if you get stuck in a mission just wander around to fight and level up then try again.

I'm so glad I finally picked this up. I've been resisting for decades. Loved it and was sad once it was over. I was worried about the graphics but thankfully the voice acting story and gameplay kept this game interesting until the end.

As a fan that bought the original game on the PlayStation on the day it came out many years ago (and have sunk untold hours into dozens of playthroughs) I never thought that the day would come where you could enjoy the game on a modern console (that is not a phone). I feel incredibly lucky that this remake ever got made, and all of the quality of life stuff does nothing but enhance the enjoyment. If you are on the fence about buying it I'd suggest flinging yourself over the fence and diving into it, even if it's not the kind of game you usually play. Yes, it can be tricky until you learn the mechanics and best practices for it, but it's immensely satisfying to master the game and breeze through parts your formerly found hard.

Incredible strategy game. Never thought I would like it this much since I mostly play platforming or Metroidvania games, but this got me addicted. And the game takes a page out of FFXIV and gives you a menu for the story and events that take place if you feel lost. Voice acting is great as well. I don't know crap about Shakespeare old English and yet wasn't lost among sophistry thrown around. I, at most, had to look up 3 times a word I didn't understand. You can understand by context alone.
