  • Geat replacement for cheap imported hand pumps on gas caddies
Style: 8 GPM w/Power Cord
I have a 35 gallon fuel caddy that I use to move fuel from the FBO's pump to my hangar. It avoids having to shut down and restart my plane and saves wear and tear on the engine and starter. However the pump on the fuel caddy was cheap, not long for this world in terms of durability, and too slow to connect to a fuel meter. The RD8 pump is just about perfect for a fuel caddy, as it's light enough to mount on the existing outlet pipe while allowing 1" or 3/4" accessories like a fuel filter and meter with a 3/4" hose and fill nozzle. The ability to swap the inlet and outlet fittings through 90 degrees makes it very easy to get a logical arrangement of accessories. The pump runs well and doesn't draw much electricity. It has a 15 amp fuse but I suspect it only draws about half that amount. It has no issues pumping fuel through a 10 micron filter and fuel meter and then up and over to the wing tanks on my plane. I did make a change in the power cord. Since I have a deep cycle 12 volt RV battery in the rear of the hangar to operate a winch for the aircraft, I used 14-3 exterior cable to make up a 40' power cord, and used 30 amp Anderson Connectors to connect to the provided (short) power cord. I reused the green alligator clip to a tie down in the hangar. The short power cord loops conveniently over the carry handle, so it's there if I need another 10' of length, and not in the way if I don't. I also attached a grounding cable to the pump that attaches to the aircraft to ensure it's grounded to the tank and pump. The major downside of the imported fuel caddies is the 31.5 - 32 mm fine, straight threads on the outlet, which is compatible with basically nothing in the US. However I took a standard 1 1/4" NPT female to 3/4" NPT female adapter and turned it in my lathe to get a friction fit (1.425") on the gas caddy's outlet. Since it had fuel in it, I opted for JB Weld to attach the adapter, since JB Weld is fuel proof, rather than soldering or brazing. However, since JB Weld is also an insulator I ensured the ground wire contacts both the pump and a cleaned bare metal spot on the outlet pipe itself. Since the pictures above were taken I've added a 90 degree elbow after the fuel meter so that the hose routes straight down and doesn't stay bent. ... show more

  • Great multi-fuel pump!
Style: 8 GPM Handheld w/Accessories
I bought this mainly because it will pump diesel & gas for my tractor & lawnmower. About three months the motor stopped turning & it was blowing fuses. I contacted Fill-Rite and they were amazing! There was a problem with the material used in the pump itself expanding & freezing the rotor. They replaced the parts with an "interim" solution they developed and later sent me an entirely new pump! I highly recommend Fill-Rite!! Some of the best customer service I've encountered. ... show more

  • Ideal portable fuel transfer pump but hose will not fit in 5 gallon gas can
Style: 8 GPM Handheld w/Accessories
After burning up a much smaller fuel transfer pump, I purchased this unit. Only used it to test so far but clearly all the hoses and cords were going to a problem to manage, store, keep clean and dry. I mounted the entire unit assembly in a 12” x 24” x 7” military surplus aluminum box I had in my shop. Also ordered an extra 10’ section of suction hose so I have more flexibility in setups and use. Total unit weight in the aluminum box is 29 pounds - easy to transport, store and use. Update: The fitting on the end of the 3/4” suction hose will not fit in a 5 gallon plastic gas can. I got a barbed fitting and added a 24” 3/4 inch hose (with no fitting on the end) to the end of stock suction hose and it works fine in 5 gallon cans. Excellent pump. It will empty a 5 gallon gas can really fast. ... show more

  • Impressively heavy duty and well made
Style: 8 GPM Handheld w/Accessories
I spent a fair amount of time researching pumps before biting the bullet and ordering this one. I used it right away, and am very pleased. It is really well made: great design and great materials. I don't the other reviews mentioned that the inlet/outlet ports are configurable for different orientations which is a nice touch. It is very heavy duty, very fast, and rated for gasoline which many pumps are not. Other reviewers have had problems with the impeller freezing when it sits after use, solved by running a quick dose of 2-cycle oil through it after use and before storing; thanks for that tip. ... show more

  • Update I changed my opinion...2019 I wish I could give it a good review.
Style: 10 GPM w/Accessories & Suction Hose
Called customer support btw which were very pleasant and helpful. I was instructed to disassemble the pump side (impeller cover) free the impeller, clean area, apply a little lube and reassemble. Success! Apparently these smaller pumps are prone to sticky mating surface between impeller and pump wall. NOTE: I have have figured out another culprit to why the pump would get stuck and blow its fuse. You need to make sure you have a strong power source (12V). If you are trying to run this from battery that is weak or low rated you probably will experience the issues I had. The hoses still stink, they became hard after the first use. And I did flush them after use. I hope this helps someone. No good! used it once to see how well it works, I was impressed. a week later actually needed it and the only thing this will do is blow fuses. Fill-Rite has always been my go to pump for Diesel transfer, I have them mounted in on board transfer tanks on our trucks so I made the assumption this would perform similarly. Not so much. buy local at least then you can take it in and exchange it. Lets see how the warranty is help up. ... show more

  • Great Pump
Style: 10 GPM w/Power Cord
Great little Diesel pump. I purchased two of the cheaper, half price pumps in a year and they both failed, so I decided to get this one. Fill Rite is a common name in the Fuel Pumping industry so I trust their products. This pump has an external in-line fuse which my other pump did not have and that's where it failed. It fried the wiring just outside the pump. So even if I have an electrical current issue, the fuse should fail and save the pump. I have this attached to a 30gallon steel upright diesel tank. ... show more
