Update to my original purchase. When I got the 16” blue dinosaur bookbag it was purple. I posted a 1 star review. The company reached out to me over my concern. They sent me the 17” blue dinosaur bookbag. It’s very blue. Now I want to give the whole experience a review. First of all, customer service went above and beyond to address my concern and right all the wrongs. They gave me excellent service. Secondly, the 17” bookbag is absolutely perfect for a first grader. The zipper glides smoothly. The bag is big enough to carry everything including an extra pair of clothes but small enough not to be so bulky. It’s perfect. We needed a quick inexpensive new backpack for my son to start the school year. This backpack has worked fine so far. No rips or tears and even the zippers still work after a few months.

The backpack was beautiful, but did not hold up. Previously, we had the same Jansport backpack that lasted us for several years. It is still in good shape, we just needed a larger bag with the side pockets for water. We managed to eek out the school year with it, but it was in complete tatters at the end of the year. The whole reason we bought a new backpack was for the water bottle holder and the mesh ripped a few months in. I ended up sewing a pocket around the meshing to keep the bottle from falling through. All the seams at the top of the backpack were also torn and pulling apart. We threw it away on the last day of school. ... show more

Zipper closes right by water bottle so it hampers it from closing easily. Back pocket is great for separating folders and library books from lunch boxes and coats etc. Big enough to be functional but doesn't overwhelm a kindergartener.
