For use on American Deluxe guitars with HSS pickup configuration; also fits older Strat Plus models with included Wilkinson� adapter. For string gauges from .008 to .056. I ordered this LSR roller nut for a DIY guitar project. It's a nice add-on if you're using tremolo systems like Bigsby or Schaller/Fender. It's definitely not "necessary", but when paired with locking tuners like Fender Locking Tuners Chrome it helps the guitar stay in tune better by reducing friction as the strings move over the nut during modulation. Doing the modification to your guitar's neck can be tricky if you're replacing a standard-sized bone or corian nut. There should be instructions with proper dimensions and specs laid out in the package you get. It's also easy enough to find "how-to" videos on YouTube to help you along. On the other hand, if you're the least bit squeamish about this, lack patience, or are just not comfortable with chiseling or routing out the slot, it's strongly suggested you go to your local instrument repair shop or luthier to get this done. Once the prep is completed the nut is super-easy to install and set up. Mine also came with shims for necks that were already prepped or where the nut could be used to replace Floyd Rose style locking nuts. I hope this helps anyone out there looking to do an upgrade or wondering about whether these things actually work.

I have been restoring/upgrading guitars for many many years (so this upgrade is easy for me to do on my guitars). This is probably one of the best technical guitar nuts out there. The strings ride on top/between a pair of ball bearings (per string), so string contact is minimal and the strings move independently and fluidly through the nut during string bends and heavy whammies. The sustain is incredible and eliminates any snagging between nut and tuners. While this will also fit and work perfectly on guitars with fixed-bridges, I would tend to do this as an upgrade on guitars with tremolo bars. IMPORTANT: if you are a beginner/novice, then please have a professional luthier do this installation for you. To install this bridge as an upgrade to a plastic/bone nut, the fretboard needs to be cut. You don't want to make even one mistake on this, as it will be costly to repair. Depending on your guitar, a mistake could ruin it. This nut is not adjustable, so you MUST get its position very precise (.001 inch) otherwise you'll likely upset the tone/tunability of your guitar.

I have changed all my Fenders to the roller nut and locking tuners... for Tremolo guitars this is a must option and adds greatly to the tuning stability. I have two American strats, an American Telecaster and a Fender Jaguar all with roller nuts, Schaller locking tuners (Tele has Stetsbar added). This is the way Leo Fender should have built them. Installation. I am a certified Luthier in Georgia so no issues for me. Depending on what your installing this in, you may need to cut the old nut out. Some manufacturers use a cheap plastic nut epoxied in. Better installs will release the nut with a slight tap of a fret hammer. Use an exacto knife to score all sides of the old nut before you remove. This will prevent rosewood or ebony tearout. On some Fenders you may find you do not have enough wood to mount the back of the nut. In this case they provide a plastic platform that you can use. The instructions call for a #51 drill bit and you really need to use the right drill bit or you will break the screws. I put the bit into a pin vise and mark depth with tape and do the drilling by hand with the pin vise.... this will prevent drilling to deep. Make sure you do not invert the nut prior to installation without placing a piece of tape over the grooves to keep the ball bearings inside. I have had two escape in the approximate 10 installs I've done not counting my personal guitars. If your not confident take it to a qualified repair person. One other note-- the instructions mention routing the nut slot bigger. I strongly recommend you do it by hand. I use a nut slot file and some exacto saws.. these are available from luthier supplies. I would never suggest a novice use a router in the nut slot.......

Easy install and great performance so far. Combined with Duesenberg double bender, I'm doing crazy bends on the g and b strings. I'm talking 3 WHOLE STEPS bro. No string breakage so far, tuning stability is surprisingly good. Plus it looks cool and chicks dig a slick nut bro

If you already know your Tremolo bridge is good and well balanced, then this nut with locking tuners will go far to stabilize your tuning. There is something else to this nut that is not advertised and that is that this also helps bring out harmonics on your guitar that you would only normally get with a locking nut or a guitar with a "zero" fret. I've been using this nut on my non-locking guitars for 30 years. I don't believe I would keep using something for that amount of time if it wasn't good.

I got this as a replacement for my '90 Strat Plus that had the Wilkenson setup (that I never liked). I had the benefit of a roller nut on there already, so no routing or and hard stuff for the install. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, and feel comfortable routing and filing, better to take it your luthier. YOU WILL NEED A #000 PHILIPS PRECISION SCREWDRIVER! A #0 IS WAY TOO BIG! I know the directions say "#0 point" but believe me, that will be too big to get into the screw head! Once installed it looks great and now that I've got my Strat with fresh strings on and this new nut, it's back to playing like it should. BTW, the #51 drill bit is the ONLY one to use. So Fender got half of it right... And watch turning the neck over with no strings on, the miniature ball-bearings can and will fall out!

the shelf that's included is a little long if you choose to install it in a non Wilkinson setup.It's no big deal, you can cut the shelf and glue ut back snug against the back of the nut, it has an added benefit if you move the angle up slightly to just touch the strings as a mute to tame the harmonics on high gain settings
