  • Really awesome (neck humbucker model)
I love this guitar. I got the yellow model with the maple fretboard and neck humbucker. It plays perfect and I brought it to an expert luthier for a setup but he didn’t have to do anything, he said it was setup well from the factory. Action was low and setup most likely for .010 strings. I must say the tone is amazing. The humbucker combined with the bridge pickup is my ideal tone. Very balanced and perfect for anything from metal to country. I mostly play the guitar with the humbucker and bridge combined and use a tube screamer. The bridge single coil is good and twangy like a telecaster should be but not shrill. These are Fenders new Yosemite single coil pickups and I gotta say they are pretty good. The Texas specials are a little shrill compared to the Yosemite. It does hum a little though. When you switch to the middle position the hum gets cut in half and when you switch to the neck humbucker only the hum is gone. The tone knob has the new push-pull thingy that can turn the neck humbucker into a single coil, but I don’t really mess with that. Some folks say doing so makes the volume drop a lot but it doesn’t really. I like humbuckers more anyway. Only downside is Fender put the annoying vintage tuners on it. Those things need to go. Takes way too long to change a high string. ... show more

  • Monster guitar
Considering the performer series was the least expensive US Made Fender line you'd think there would be SOME flaws somewhere. I don't know if I got the pick of the litter but I can't imagine how the more expensive Fenders would be much better than this. The guitar feels great, plays great, sounds great, looks great. It's a Tele alright. ... show more

  • Amazing Guitar!!!
Hey all - I am a touring & session player and also have been a involved in setting up guitars for the studio for players like Nile Rodgers, Robbie Robertson, Keith Richards, James Taylor, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, Todd Rundgren, Black Crows, and many others. I got this guitar for myself recently. The blond one with maple fingerboard and the humbucker. It is an amazing instrument - a perfect blend of tradition and modern enhancements. The jumbo frets are great and I like the feel of the neck. I set it up with a set of Super Slinky 9's, and adjusted the truss rod and action and got the intonation spot on (even with the 3 saddle system. It plays great. I am extremely impressed with what Fender did with the humbucker. It is perfect - and that is difficult to achieve on a Tele. Very well balanced and complimentary with the bridge pickup. And with the switch you get 5 very usable and inspiring sounds. I was hesitant to not get the one with the single coil neck pickup - but I am so happy I got the humbucker. I did a gig with it the week after I got it - and loved it! I had a simple set up of a Fender Pro Jr amp and an MXR Distortion + and Dyna Comp and a Boss DDL pedal. Everyone was blown away by the tone and sound. Another cool thing is the grease bucket tone control. You can just roll off a touch of twang - especially with the bridge pickup. It's perfect. And still sharp and cutting - just a little more chill when you want that. And then dial it back up for an in your face kinda riff or solo. This guitar is a total work horse and it looks fantastic. I got lots of instruments - but I can easily make this one my all around go to guitar. ... show more

  • Neck shape
With the recent introduction of the JV series, and everyone that I read about raves about the comfort of the soft V neck, why isn’t it offered in more models? I have an American Tele tricolor Sunburst, a 2003 model that I would actually trade for the JV series, because that neck feels so much better, I have a Taylor 310 CE made in 1998 with a soft V neck, and I love that thing! I would even consider a U-shaped neck but that soft V is the ticket! Shortly after I purchased the Taylor, they went to a sea shake neck with a one and three-quarter inch nut. Mine is and 11/16, which makes sense on the dreadnought but Taylor as well saves money by making all the neck width’s the same. If you are a Bluegrass player, that sucks. ... show more

  • Hum bucker changes the game
The humbucker in the neck changes the entire game on this one. The fretwork was excellent on mine. Setup was good but intonation was out on my G. I did have to set that up which took about an hour. The lack of a hard case with this one was disappointing but overall this guitar is a pleasure to play. I don’t often use the neck pickup on almost any of my guitars including my prs Mira and prs se models both of which are fine guitars in their own right. This tele has changed my entire approach to playing though. Teles in general are twangy. Which this certainly is in the bridge. You get the most bang for your buck if you get that humbucker in the neck though. I play a lot of delay pedal inspired music that’s mostly original and it is a delight to hear it. It’s so punchy and beautiful with the neck pickup. I have one that was used from 2019. It’s excellent. I think everyone should give this a try even if you really aren’t a telecaster guy. This guitar might change your thinking on how you play even if you’re like me and have played for thirty years. ... show more

  • Best Telecaster I've Ever Played
Wonderful Performer Telecaster Hum. The Hum makes this guitar a real keeper. A fatter neck than I was used to but quickly overcame that. Sound is twangy and magnificent like a Tele should sound in the bridge position. Love the Jumbo frets as well. My only knock is the vintage tuners as I prefer posts; too long to change a string if breakage occurs during performing. Those types of tuners need to be discontinued, but not too much of an issue to sway me away from the beauty, sound and feel of this guitar. American made and affordable. Snag one if you can, it will not disappoint. Just a great guitar. ... show more
