Description

Bassists have loved the signature Geddy Lee Jazz Bass for over a decade. The new U.S.A. Geddy Lee Jazz Bass is a new version that combines the specs and features of Lee's three favorite basses-two Fender Custom Shop versions of his signature model and the original sleek black '72 Jazz Bass that Rush's revered bassist/vocalist has riffed away on in front of millions of devoted fans worldwide and on many a mega-selling album. The neck has a thicker custom profile but still has a thinner nut width indicative of Jazz basses of this era. The neck is also topped by a maple fingerboard, medium jumbo frets, bone nut and elegant white binding with white pearloid block inlays. For enormous tone that crackles with life and bristles with the energy, its two vintage style single-coil Jazz Bass pickups are specially wound and voiced to sound like those on Lee's prized 1972 original, and a Geddy Lee signature High-Mass bridge provides rock-solid intonation. Fender Hard-shell case included!

I didn't think that there could be that much difference between the original CIJ/MIM and the US GL jazz basses; I was terribly wrong. I ordered the US GL bass from Russo music and the bass was set up nearly perfect right out of the box. The new high mass bridge doesn't have the sharp edges as the older Badass bridges and the machine work seems more polished. The new profile neck is not as thin as the CIJ necks, but it's very comfortable and the oil finish on the back feels great compared to the old poly finishes. The fretwork and binding are perfect, but I can see that a future refret might be difficult due to the binding. The ivory inlays look like they've been in the neck for 30 yrs, more of cream instead of the bright white you usually see. The body is finished in a flawless poly, I would have rather had a nitro finish but it's not a show stopper. The tone is what you would expect from a Jazz bass, a punchy midrange growl that the new pickups are supposed to produce, and absolutely quiet. Compared to the previous GL signature basses (which I own all versions), this one is far superior and worth the money. ... show more

    • Instrument great, missing keys for lock
The instrument is great, but the keys for the lock for the case werent included and we began a series of calls to track them down, all the way back to Fender. The tuning kit also needed to be supplemented since one wrench was missing.

This was by far the most rewarding purchase I've ever made in my life. You pull this creature out of the box, the keys are in a compartment in the hard shell case btw the other guy lied about not getting them, and it's game on. I'm in love now.
