Good book for learning how to design farm fencing solutions.
This book is a good overview and is definitely worth reading if you want to engineer a farm fencing solution. I do wish that an updated version was available. You must do a ton of research external to this book with regards to researching all of the manufacturer information and product information th
at is currently available. Sometimes the book was a little hard to read. I would have appreciated more graphics. The book contents made more sense the more I did external research looking at what manufacturers were recommending. I definitely found a lot of information in this book that is not available elsewhere. While I do wish there was an updated version of it, it is still worthwhile reading.

Small farm must have - fences are a necessity not an optional luxury
This is a pretty handy book to have around the farm. It has great information about all sorts of fences from livestock to a deer repellant type for your vegetable garden. There are very clear diagrams and sketches throughout to visually explain what a specific fence looks like and how to put it toget
her. I especially like the fact that the book shows you how to measure properly and how to correctly wrap/attach different types of wire to different types of posts. There is a nice section on gates and how & why to build a particular design over another based on your needs.

I was new to goats and live in a high coyote area. I had never set up pasture fence before and had no idea how to go about it. I wanted to make sure I set up my pasture fence to keep the goats in and the coyotes out. This book gave me everything I needed to know to set the fence up properly, from wha
t my options were, to what materials I would need, to what specialty tools I needed. I had an experienced neighbor there to help keep me on course, but I am confident, that without him, I still would have got it done with this book in hand... it just would have involved a few more rookie mistakes and a little more time.

I'm glad this product was very affordable buying it used, because it didn't end up being what I was hoping for. I'm a visual learner and along with the extensive descriptions and instructions I was hoping for some photos to show an end result of the different fences. Instead this book has little illu
strations. So, it was a little disappointing, but at least this book is very thorough and I'm sure would be a big help to someone other than me.

The book is packed with lots of good text but a picture is worth a thousand words. Not a lot of pictures for context to the narrative in this book.

If you've never built a fence this is the book you need
I have used to this book to build corral fencing, rail fencing, and electrical fencing. I found this book invaluable in planning and building all these fences. For wooden fences it has practical and good ideas about layout, wood, and setting and preserving posts. The chapter on wire fencing is invalu
able and saved us a lot of work especially for the electrical fencing we installed. The text and instructions are clear and the illustrations are very helpful. This book has a permanent place on my bookshelf.

The book I received was not in the best of shape, but was to be expected, since it was well used. The book delivered the content I was looking for..building a garden fence using commonly obtainable materials. It helps you to think about the possibilities before you make mistakes and before you go thr
ough all of the work and your fence is either ugly or fails to hold up. This is not fancy-dancy stuff, just good old fashioned information that our grandfathers probably would have considered everyday working knowledge. Great book to keep and reference for future projects.

Very good book to learn everything about building fences. The book provides the little details the average person doesn't notice or know about fencing, and need to know if one is going to build their own fence. My husband and I are fencing the perimeter 25 acres ourselves to save approx. $20k that a
fencer would charge. Granted it will take longer for us to complete, but well worth it in both monetary value and educational value. After all, we will also be the one to make repairs to our fence.

Bought this to help me build a high-tension horse fence in SW Washington. It was a tricky project as the ground was hilly and the soil difficult to work with in places. I would have been so incredibly lost without this book...!

A few good ideas, but biased...
I purchased this book based on several reviews that claimed it described a wide variety of fence systems & styles. However, if you're not interested in high-tensile, electrified fencing then less than a third of this book will be very useful to you. Yes, it does a good job of covering some (but not a
ll) popular fencing methods, and would be useful to a beginner. However, I suspect - for specific types of fence - the internet, manufacturers and dealers will provide better information.

Tons of useful information! Even though I'm now working on the third fence I've built, I found a lot of information that I did not know. I'm sure that this one will be the best yet, thanks to the book.

Older book, but very helpful
I bought this book and after reading through it, I have installed 3 fences out in our pasture. The Seller shipped quickly. I could have gotten the book at the library, but it was helpful having it at my place.

I put up fences before but this book makes it easy and explains everything recommended for each type of fence and what type of fence to use for what breed of animal. I would recommend this book to anyone who is going to put up a fence for animals to have this as a reference.
